So the coach has power over the GM? And this is why the Browns continue to be the factory of sadness.
What a bunch of clownshoes franchises.
michiganjoe posted:The Giants and Browns, who have fired their head coaches within the past 24 hours, still could be making more changes, per league sources. The new head coach in each city is expected to have input on whether the general managers there stay or go. Front office situations fluid.
β Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 30, 2019Dorsey apparently still not in the clear.
How does that work? So coaches are interviewing directly with the owners? If that's the case I bet Dorsey is pulling for a McVince hire. What a jacked up scenario.
I read it as simply input, not the final say.
Cowboysβ HC Jason Garrett said on his @1053thefan radio hit that he would meet with team today, then the Jones family.

Shocked if he's back.
The Panthers and Browns both are seeking interviews with Josh McDaniels. If Jacksonville opens up they are almost certain to do the same. Rare year when Pats dont have the bye so no interviews for him this week
β Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) December 30, 2019
What do you think the Vikings do if they go down to New Orleans and get blown out of the water?
Blame the refs in the Green Bay game.

Dorsey is done if McDaniels gets the job.
What if McDaniels gets the job and then backs out last second cuz family?
Then the Browns would need a GM and a coach.
Probably happen that way for The Factory.
Giants have requested permission to interview Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy for their head-coaching job, per source. Panthers also have requested interview for Bieniemy.

Not sure if this belongs in Vikings suck or here, but interesting nugget from Charles Robinson. He has a whole thread of black Monday thoughts.
5. As for #Vikings, ownership likes Stefanski a lot. If the team totally craters vs. #Saints, donβt rule out significant changes in the face of playoff failure and potentially losing Stefanski. I believe this game matters for Mike Zimmerβs 2020 outlook - not just an extension.

Real interest or covering the Rooney rule? Does he actually get to call plays there or is Reid running the offense?
So if the Browns cut Dorsey loose what does that mean for Eliot Wolf, and Alonzo Highsmith? Could there be an opening on the Packers for them?
ammo posted:So if the Browns cut Dorsey loose what does that mean for Eliot Wolf, and Alonzo Highsmith? Could there be an opening on the Packers for them?
You have to wonder with Wolf JR why he hasn't landed a GM spot. He was passed up with the most obvious employer he could have in GB and you really don't hear his name being mentioned much. I think Highsmith has some good accomplishments on his resume but it's pretty curious to me that Eliot just hasn't made the jump.
He is pretty young yet. That'd be my guess.
Dorsey should be done regardless of whether or not McDaniels joins the team. Heβs made some terrible personnel and coaching decisions.
I know heβs got a lot of credibility given his past ties to Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren but they honestly need to blow the whole thing up in Cleveland and start over.
Do the Packers, particularly Gerkin, want them?
Just mentioned on @NFLNetwork: The #Browns have put in a request for #49ers DC Robert Saleh. Not a surprise, heβll be coveted.

Which explains exactly why he gave all his starters a nice "bye" vs. the Bears.
Zim's entire head coaching career is probably on the line here. He can definitely get a DC job if he wants it. But his HC days could be over without an excellent showing in New Orleans.
By that I mean, winning or losing on a last second FG, I would consider a good showing.
Maybe MM will hire Zim Dog as his DC if Capers can no longer get out of a chair?
AFAIK....Dom is still on Jacksonville as a defensive assistant. That may change now that Coughlin is gone.
ABC is reporting that the Cokeboys coaching staff has been fired
Weβre told that a member of the staff texted a person close to him, and said βWeβre fired.β The response was βAll of you?β And the response was βYes.β
β Mike Leslie (@MikeLeslieWFAA) December 30, 2019
Interestingly, Jason Garrett has not been fired. His contract ends middle of January I believe. Jerry Jones thing to do is just let the contract run out so he doesn't have a termination on his resume? LOL....funny.

...and this is why the Rooney rule sucks donkey balls. It just got questioned if this guy is only getting a interview because of his skin color.
Not attacking you, just saying it sucks.
I mean I've heard his name brought up before after Mahommies and the KC offense blew up last year but is that him or Reid? Just wondering if he's running the offense or is he more of a Sherm Lewis under Holmgren?
I would guess a Sherm Lewis but donβt know diddly squat about whatβs going on in KC.

FWIW from P Kings column today,
One other offensive coach is an interesting case tooβKansas City coordinator Eric Bieniemy. He reminds me of something Bill Parcells told me last year, when teams were hiring lots of young offensive coaches without years of experience. Bieniemy has been an assistant in college and pro football for 21 years, and Andy Reid says heβs one of the best leaders on any staff heβs had. Bieniemy does something unique for Reid: He memorizes the offensive play sheet each week. The Chiefs call plays from Reid to Bieniemy, and Bieniemy calls them into Patrick Mahomes. On my podcast this week (dropping Wednesday), Bieniemy told me why he does it. βIt takes a lot of time,β he said. βBut at the end of the day, I want to make sure I am accountable to the entire coaching staff and to the entire organization. My job is to have the ability to spit those plays out and know everything about them, inside and out. Iβm always talking to our players about the importance of taking work home. Itβs my job to have a completed understanding of everything thatβs on that call sheet.β
βIβve been dreaming about this opportunity [to be a head coach] all my life,β he said. βI feel that I am ready. You want to make sure . . . that people can see how you command a room, how you approach the day-to-day business, how you command everything thatβs taking place within that building, how you deal with people, how you handle each situation that comes up.β Bieniemy is another guy who should talk to multiple teams.
The #Redskins are making Ron Rivera their new coach and giving him a 5-year deal, sources say. A big commitment.

I cannot see the name Eric Bieniemy without thinking "Sleeping with".
Thanks Chris Berman.

Nobody wants to interview the highly successful football coach?
#Browns GM John Dorsey has a meeting today with owner Jimmy Haslam and his job status appears to be in serious doubt, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. Everything is under evaluation after a disappointing season and that includes the GM.
β Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 31, 2019
Was previously very supportive of bringing Dorsey in to assume control. Really glad with the benefit of hindsight that didn't occur.
Browns and John Dorsey are βleaning towardsβ parting ways today, sources tell @mortreport and me, but this is a fluid and not final situation. Dorsey is meeting today with Brownsβ owner Jimmy Haslam to finalize details. Signs pointing to the end for Dorsey.

When has appearing on Hard Knocks ever worked out for the team the following year or two? Cleveland is just the latest in a long line of teams that got built up only to fail miserably.
If you are a head coach or GM why would you ever think you can change the culture of a team when the owner is a micromanaging idiot? Haslem, Synderbrenner, Jerruh to name a few.
Memo to those candidates interested in Cleveland - when you have changed out the coach or GM about a dozen times in as many years you might want to steer clear of those opportunities. This is why I seriously question the intelligence of guys like Highsmith and Dorsey and Wolf. I mean, did they think this would turn out any differently?
Yo Ron Rivera - good luck in Washington. Better luck trying to find a GM now that Synderbrenner hand picked the HC. You may have been a highly successful businessman and maybe even feature a smoke show wife but your football acumen and self awareness is atrocious. The same as it ever was.
Then there is Dallass. Of course they will retain Garrett. Jerruh can treat him like a lap dog. Who gives a shit about winning. Thatβs secondary to Jerruh and his postgame pressers like heβs a star player or the goddamn coach. What a debacle.
Thank God the Packers hired Gute and MLF.
What a freakin' train wreck The Browns are. MM will fail miserably without a decent GM if he were to be hired there. I am not saying that has to be Dorsey, but does anyone have any faith the factory of sadness will replace someone better then him?
Mess.
Haslem is the problem there. Just like Snyder, Jerruh, etc.
I'm LMAO if they get rid of the guy that put all that talent together.
MM was supposed to have an interview with Cleveland. Already had 2 interviews with Carolina.
Gutey....hasn't had too many poor moves so far. Nice job! Please keep it going.
