Why call it a ploy? Stafford wasnât being sneaky or dishonest. The Rams let him talk to other teams to find out his market value. The Raiders surely knew landing Stafford was a long shot but they decided to kick the tires anyway.
It sounded flimsy from the beginning. Why would they let him walk unless they had some young kid that was ready to step up.

Where did it was sneaky or dishones? It was a plan that worked. He didnât want to leave, he wanted a better deal and used the threat of leaving to get it. Business 101.
