I know Brady wants to play until he's 93 but when that drop off hits it's going to be precipitous. My guess is mortgaging the future isn't a huge concern for the Billy's if they can hang one more title on the wall.
Just the right opportunities presenting themselves. It should have concerned Philly that Ozzie was willing to give up a former second round pick after 2 seasons for less than he paid for him (Jernigan's value in the trade amounted to late-3rd round). It's not like they're stacked at DT, they just lost Lawrence Guy (thanks Ted) to New England, so it's not as though Jernigan was truly expendable (in that there was a proven player to replace him). If it was draft day you would think Ozzie was targeting a player, but he seemingly just took the best offer available to dump this guy.
The Ravens just gave Williams big money and still have Kafusi, Davis Henry and Pierce on the D-line.
True, although they're in a better division. They're taken the BPA/D&D plan and are moving an over-stocked position player for a pick.
First off. **** the AFC. I really hope Lynch signs with Oakland and then runs all up, down, and over New England behind that effing O-line of theirs while Sherman, Butler, and Gilmore watch helplessly in the 2017 AFC title game in front of 70,000 Pat fans in Oakland because Raider fans sold every one of their damned tickets.
And then Green Bay kicks Oaklands ass two weeks later.
I would like to see sherman in gb. there i said it.

I'll take scapegoats for $500 Alex.
And the answer is, Dom Capers.

2000 years from now, someone will find this thread, but the only visible words will be "And the answer is, Dom Capers", and think someone was saying he should be president.

I have always strongly disliked Sherman but I would actually be ok with him in GB. Now I don't believe for even a second that will happen but it sure would bring an edge to that defense they always seem to be lacking.
I have to agree with YA's link honestly. All of those things in that link feed off of each other and that is what is keeping this team from taking that final step.
That article reads like an 8th grader wrote it.

In 2000 years Dom Capers likely won't be the DC of the Packers, that's all we care about.
I would say with almost 100% certainty The Wizard will still be the Packers DC in 2000 years.
El Ka Heston loses it.

They'll be a dropoff when Brady hits the age wall, but the Pats went 10-6 with Matt Cassel at QB and 3-1 to start this past year without Brady. They'll still be at least a fringe playoff contender even with an average QB.
The real dropoff will come when Belichick hangs it up. He turns 65 next week - so maybe 5 more years? How'd you like to be the coach that follows him. The only comparable situation would have been following Lombardi in Green Bay.
I can only imagine the Schadenfraude party when Belichek hangs it up or they bottom out.
Unless BB drops out with Brady, I can definitely see why they're holding on to Garapolo. As others have said, when it goes, it tends to go hard and fast, be it Favre, Manning, Testaverde ... well, maybe not Testaverde, but you get the picture.
x4 should write a self help book for Patriots fans. "What to Expect When You're Expecting to Suck".

I think following Landry, Shula and Noll is also pretty comparable.

Kind of funny that Jimmy Johnson ended up following 2 of those 3 you mentioned. It was easier taking over for Landry because the Cowboys had already tanked, though they did tank even further in Johnson's first year. Johnson did okay for himself after that though. He definitely did not have the same success in Miami that he had in Dallas though.

We've can close the voting for the working title of Dom's future memoir. Now he just needs to get busy writing stuff.

He didn't have the Vikings suckage to boost him in Miami.

I would love to see him in GB, but not for a first round pick.
I still wonder how the stench of QB desperation affects the draft. IMO the mid-20s should be where the action starts so they're only being over drafted somewhat, but it'll probably be much sooner.
It's also a spot where there could be a run on RBs, pass rushers and corners. Teams like the Saints and Browns with multiple picks by the mid-second are probably doing figurative cartwheels as I think the first-round talent is deeper than normal this year.
Jordy Nelson likes him on the other sideline.
I decided to play around with the Fanspeak thing once again and an interesting (though not likely realistic?) scenario came up:
Looking at taking just the best available player with picks, to me there was little question in the first four rounds. Here were the players: Leonard Fournette, Evan Engram, Chris Godwin and Ethan Pocic. I don't think anyone would argue they're not really good prospects, but would you be happy with the Packers not touching the defense until round 5 at the earliest?
It depends on the players. If all that is available is stud offensive players then do it, don't overdraft defensive players. If you get the chance to add Fournette and Engram, that's a solid day. Both players have a chance to be great pros.
And that's my feeling also, and I like Godwin a lot and he seems a very TT type of receiver. It's not like Fournette and Pocic wouldn't also fill needs (if Pocic could step in a OG). I'd probably really hope TT could swing a trade or find a good free agent for some immediate defensive help though.
I'd think any immediate defensive help would cost more than Thompson would be willing to give.
They might have more luck with a mid summer cut for D help other than the draft.
The top 2 FA CBs (on Spotrac) are Revis and Shields.
DeAndre Levy might be a low risk / high reward signing in the summer.
Can he pass a physical?

Fournette lost 12 pounds between combine & pro day & looked great. He will be long gone at 29
Most likely, but say Thompson likes Foreman or Mac that much. The names aren't as important. Maybe Howard/Njoku slide, then Freeman and Godwin, or some similar combo.
I think Foreman can be had in the third round. We could still get two good defensive players before filling biggest need on offense. Now if someone like WR Corey Davis fell to us in the first I would be all for taking him.

I thought i saw something that said he had more damage than the doctor told him. Didn't have time to read the article.
I'd love to see an interior OL guy like Lamp slide to 29. Always get better inside out. Always.

Why I said might be, in the summer. The recent surgery was for his meniscus, that typically recovers fairly quickly.
