There has to be funny stuff going on there.

He's married to the richest supermodel in the world.  Her net worth is somewhere north of $300m, while his is around $100m.  No NFL contract he'll sign makes him the breadwinner in that house, so may as get the next best thing: taking a half priced contract to stay with the Pats and win as many Super Bowls as possible and go down as the GOAT.

Rodgers blew it by not marrying a Walton.  Then he could take the vet minimum and TT could have signed Albery Haynesworth, Darelle Revis and (insert more overpriced free agents).  And then traded for Joe Thomas.

  • Malik McDowell/DL/Michigan St.

Best Available for GB:

  • Sidney Jones/CB/Washington - Talented in coverage, but can't handle strong WRs at the line (watch him against Juju Smith-Schuster)
  • Tim Williams/OLB/Alabama - Elite pass rusher, can't stay out of trouble or off the weed though. Drug suspension waiting to happen!

Really good players but not good 1st round value:

  • Alvin Kamara/RB/Tennessee
  • TJ Watt/OLB/Wisconsin
  • Gareon Conley/CB/Ohio St.
  • Budda Baker/FS/Washington
  • Tanoh Kpassagnon/DE/Villanova

  • Takkarist McKinley/OLB/UCLA

Can you see a combo of 2 players + availability from this list above where TT would trade back from 1st round, and make 2 2nd round picks?
Maybe some where in the Pick 35-50 range?
Cleveland has 2 1st round picks (1 and 12) and 2 2nd round picks (33 and 52). Lord knows they need them, but there has to be plenty of 'wiggle room' to use 1 (or more) of those picks to create some additional ones.
Thoughts?

I agree. A good, solid pass rush will help our CB situation. Watt will be a star. I think we will still need to draft a CB early, depending on what, if anything, TT does in FA. Sidney Jones or Gareon Conley would not be bad picks for TT, if available.  Jones, Conley, Takarist McKinley, Jabril Peppers, Christian McCaffrey, T.J. Watt and O.J. Howard are all players the various mock drafts have said GB will pick in round 1. Is Best Player Available(BPA) still the way TT wants to draft. If TT drafts a pass rusher or a CB with our current 1st Round pick and is able to get at least one of either of those in FA, I would be happy. What I want and what TT does are almost always two different things.

I for one would really like if they stay away from Peppers. From what I have seen of him and read about him scouts are trying to figure out where he fits and probably would slotted as more of a safety.  That and I just think he isn't THAT great.

I also wouldn't be all that crazy about drafting McCaffrey.  Really good player in college but I just can't see him as an every down back and more of a slot receiver.

I think they could go with Howard of they can't resign Cook.

As for the BPA philosophy we argue about that every year on this board since it was first created.  I am firmly in the part of the argument that you take the BPA in an area of need.  For instance this year I would take the BPA anywhere on defense. All that being said this just feels like a year where TT will draft an OL or WR in round one and everyone will go who is that?

In the pipe dream from Fanspeak category:

29: R1P29 TE O.J. HOWARD ALABAMA

61: R2P29 EDGE T.J. WATT WISCONSIN

93: R3P29 CB FABIAN MOREAU UCLA

133: R4P28 CB MARQUEZ WHITE FSU

173: R5P28 WR TRAVIN DURAL LSU

181: R5P36 RB COREY CLEMENT WISCONSIN

213: R6P28 OT JONAH PIRSIG MINNESOTA

250: R7P29 EDGE TYUS BOWSER HOUSTON

Moreau, Clement and Pirsig may be around those spots, but everyone else will go higher than these, imo.

We will have to see what Watt's workout numbers are. Right now I would call him a smart/heady player, great technician, great size, but unproven as far as his athletic upside is concerned. Ted likes smart players and great technicians, but in Round 1 he seems to favor the Height/Weight/Speed guys more. If Watt shows he's an elite athlete like Clay then I doubt they would pass on him. Showing he's a Clay caliber of athlete would help with questions about whether he's just a 1 year wonder or truly legit.

TT took some risk when he drafted CM3 because he really only started showing out in his jr year.  If anyone drafting above GB had known he would turn into what he did so quickly in the NFL he would have been gone in the first 5.  Watt might be in the same transition.

TT will not draft a WR in RD1 so you can cross that off your list.  If they lose Cook AND Howard falls then maaaaaaaybe a TE after seeing the impact Cook had.

I never ever dream about the Packers but the other night I dreamed they drafted an OT in RD1.  I couldn't figure out what they were going to do with him.

I find it unlikely, based on recent moves, that they look at an OT in round 1. I don't see an OT being there in R1 for them, Ramcyk and Cam Robinson will likely be gone and after that I don't see a 1st round OT on the board. They just drafted Spriggs in r2 and gave Bakh a good chunk of change, as they did with Bulaga 2 years ago. OT in R1 seems pretty unlikely, as does QB, FB, K, P, LS. Everything else I would call fair game.

Here's my early take on this...will most certainly change as things develop:

(1) Sign one of the veteran CB free agents...too early to tell which one. Some will stay with their team (re-signed or franchised). We need a veteran on the outside. If we get a good free agent, then draft the best pass rusher available in the first...Watt is my choice, not because I'm a homer, but because I like his production, his measurables, his character, and his pedigree.

(1b) Assuming Ingram isn't franchised, go after him. If we get him, then draft a corner in Rd 1.

(2) Re-Sign Perry, and move Clay inside. Clay can still be a dominant MLB/ILB. This will/should also help protect him from injury.

(3) Draft an impact player in the 2nd round for the offense...RB, WR, TE...doesn't matter...get another guy who can scare the opposing defense.

(4) Find another big body for the defense. With Pennel gone, we're short one guy. Lots of guys to choose from here, so I won't call a pick yet...more to come later. Maybe push this to the 4th round.

(5) Find a guy to push Barclay as the swing man....not a developmental pick, but someone who can actually come in and play right tackle or guard, if necessary. I like Taylor Moton of Western Michigan. May be able to land him late 3rd...not sure...depends on his combine and pro day. I'm not sure, yet, about Kyle Murphy...maybe we're ok there...if we are, then skip this, and go after a safety. I like Montae Nicholson of Michigan State...one of the few safeties with decent speed and production in college. If we can get him in the third, I'd call that a good pick.

Beyond that, it's a lot to cover. I'll offer up more as we go.

Yeah I'm not buying either either. I really like both players, but I can't see GB taking them in round 1. Even if they re-sign Perry and Datone, I still think there will be a pass rusher that GB won't pass on...Taco Charlton seems the most likely right now, Charles Harris seems like a possibility, Derek Barnett is a longshot but possible IMO.

The biggest knock on Baker is his size being 5'10" and about 195 lbs., which is small for a Safety, but to me that is something that can be remedied. Nick Collins played his whole career at 5'11"/205 lbs., I don't see a reason why Baker couldn't add some muscle to get to that size.

He's a guy worth keeping an eye on IMO.

Earl Thomas size.

It isn't the size of the hammer, it is how quickly the hammer can drive the nail.

Unless someone he sees as being a future star falls into TT's lap, I don't think he goes RB. He either gets another CB or a big line guy, either D or O.

I don't see him taking a RB either but this is TT we are talking about and who knows maybe he will do it.  Anyhow, I think there are some decent guys but no one that would be a BPA across the board.  And maybe TT likes McCaffrey but I just think the guy has slot receiver instead of RB written all over him.

To me this just feels like the year TT will do one of two things with the first round pick. Go offense at an unexpected position or trade down for more picks in the 2nd and 3rd and load up on defense.  My hope is he loads up defense early and often as much as possible.

Screw defense, doesn't matter.  Draft McCaffery as a weapon and 4 offensive lineman.  Address linebacker and corner with UDFA

Of course you want McCaffery. He'd fit in well with Dean Lowry and Jeff Janis. Let's draft Chris McCaffrey and insert him as the starting RB with Ripkowski at FB...start Nelson, Janis, and Max McCaffrey at WR...Re-Sign Lang at RG (flanked by Bulaga) and Tretter at C with Linsley at LG (flanked by Bakh)...and Rodgers at QB makes 11! That's a scrappy blue collar, lunch pail, gym rat offense!
