Here's an interesting conundrum: Packers on the clock at #14, top-rated players are Derwin James, Roquon Smith and Tremaine Edmunds. Which one do you pick, and why?

I'm leaning James. He has coverage skills of a corner and a base nickel with King, Clinton-Dix, James, Jones/Brice and Randall looks pretty versatile, plus there's a chance Rashaan Evans or Leighton Vander Esch in there in the second if they really want to upgrade ILB next to Martinez, and they should both be solid blitzers also. Plus, if Clinton-Dix goes elsewhere next season, they have a premier safety prospect already in house.

I'm with Pakrz in that scenario.  It seems like we are always spending our first pick on a DB.  I'd like to see a non DB just for the novelty hey.

It also seems like DB's have the highest chance of being a bust.  I realize that's probably not even true it just seems that way.

I think Hershel is spot on with his logic. Take James, especially if you think you can get Vander Esch in 2nd round. Pettine is more interested in stopping the passing game than Capers was, as he said in his presser, "nothing can get you beat quicker than the passing game"

I still say Gute should go for the best available player left on the board at 14. If that player is Derwin James, Calvin Ridley or Tremaine Edmunds, so be it. I have a sneaky feeling we haven't seen the last of Gute's dealings with Cleveland, either. What if he were to trade up for Cleveland's second pick in the 1st round? A lot of difference makers will be available there such as S Minkah Fitzpatrick, OG Quentin Nelson, OT Mike McGlinchy, ILB Roquan Smith, as well as James, Edmunds, Ridley, to name a few others. All this speculations is driving me crazy!

I can hear the after #14 pick presser now.  Gute - "I took the best player available.  You can ask me any packer related question except if it deals with the draft.  For instance, you can ask what color the Packer uniforms will be for the coming year."

Hopefully Gute can do better than Ted in the first 3 rounds. Been pretty rough as of late.

Debatable as to what is a bust, but pretty brutal:

"Major" busts?

Until the weight became too much to ignore, Lacy was a beast and a great weapon.

Rodgers was overdrafted but a quality backup TE. Could do a lot worse.

I'm willing to give Rollins one more chance.

I've noticed that over the past year there's been a lot of revisionist history among GBP fans regarding TT's effectiveness as GM. While it was certainly the right time for him to step away, as the game was starting to pass him by in terms of philosophy, the guy brought us:

-Aaron Rodgers

-Nick Collins

-Charles Woodson

-Greg Jennings

-The immortal Jason Spitz

-Johnny Jolly

-Sam Shields

-James Jones

-Desmond Bishop

-Mason Crosby

-Jordy Nelson

-Jermichael Finley

-BJ Raji

-Clay Matthews

-T.J. Lang

-Bryan Bulaga

-Morgan Burnett

-James Starks

-Randall Cobb

-Nick Perry

-Casey Hayward

-Mike Daniels

-Julius Peppers

-David Bahktiari

-Micah Hyde

-HaHa Clinton-Dix

-DaVante Adams

-Corey Linsley (hey, everyone makes a mistake now and again)

 -Kenny Clark

All of these guys were, at worst, solid starters and contributors. While the game got out from under him near the end, to say that he was a "garbage" or incompetent GM is patently false. This is also neglecting to mention how quick he was able to turn the team around from certain cap hell and dysfunction when he came in 2005. Thompson was good as any GM in his day and deserves a spot in the GBP HOF as much as Harlan, Wolf, etc. Time to stop the hysteria and mobbing.

Agree. ^^ Not every pick is going to become a HOFer. We expect them to be, but you're working with guys who in real life are still in college or barely out. Remember that time in your life? It's a crapshoot.

Ted was a very good GM but the point stil stands. He was incredible pre 2010 but really slipped the last several years.

Can't miss in the draft like he did in combination with not answering the phone after your afternoon nap. I would think only the most hard-core homer would defend this roster after what we saw last year.

An example of missing once in a while :

#Packers’ 2015 draft class...

1-30: Damarious Randall
2-62: Quinten Rollins
3-94: Ty Montgomery
4-129: Jake Ryan
5-147: Brett Hundley
6-206: Aaron Ripkowski
6-210: Christian Ringo
6-213: Kennard Backm

Ouch !!

Yeah, dont agree with Lacy being a major bust, but definitely a "huge" disappointment.

Emphasis on the "huge" part to be sure.  His first 2 years, I thought he was one of the best RBs the Pack had since Ahman Green was there.  Once he put on those extra lbs. the injuries piled up and he never has recovered since.

In hindsight, the only picks looking somewhat good there are Montgomery and Ripkowski.  And Montgomery is so injury prone, you can make a case that even that pick wasn't the greatest either.

He's a 2-time NFL Executive of the Year - Nobody drafts perfectly but TT has more drafted players in the NFL than any other GM & it isn't even close. He definitely deserves Packer HoF entry & probably NFL HoF too!

Seems like many here are "what have you done for me lately".  They also think drafting easy.

Here's one OPINION PIECE.

Lacy was great until the injuries started nipping him.  With AR hobbled we were riding him to Feb in 2014 until the TE that shall not be named decided to play hero. How many MIN dbs did he truck.

But I was told TT is a god..  chicks in the barn....

Just saw a mock draft in which the Packers pick Tremaine Edmunds at 14 and OG Quentin Nelson gets drafted at #25. Never gonna happen. No way Quentin Nelson goes that low.

Good idea/Bad idea: Buffalo traded the #21, Corey Glenn and a 4th to the Bengals for #12 and a 5th. I have to think they're moving toward #3 to get ahead of the Browns/Broncos/Jets and hey still have two picks in each of the first three rounds. It likely means all four QBs I'll be gone, but Indy has many of the same defensive needs as Green Bay though, and Chubb will be gone by Tampa at least.

I think there are mock drafts where a particular fan wants a player to fall in a certain slot.  So then they arrange the other pieces so that it looks like it could happen.  Some are not at all a real scenario.

The other thing about mocks is trying to guess who falls. There's usually a guy (or guys) way overvalued by pundits and fans who drops a round or two. My guess is Harold Landry and Josh Jackson are prime candidates this year.

That wouldn't surprise me either. Wide receiver looks fairly deep once again, which could factor a bit also. Plus, who's the last consistently good team that took a wideout in the first round?
