If they have a chance to get a top 5 pick by virtue of tanking then I say tank away.  Not sure when theyโ€™ll be picking that high again so I would do everything possible to get as good of draft position as they can.

It would seem there are several really good defensive prospects (especially DL) that will be available in the top 10-12 range.   I know they need OLB and OL and S but you team up another stud DL with Daniels and Clark and look out.   We wonโ€™t need elite corners if you get a really good DL that can disrupt the OL and get to the QB.

It's a pretty bad year for OTs IMO. The OG class looks stacked though. We could come out with 2 plug and play starters on Day 2 for sure. We might have to try and find a David Bahktiari early on Day 3 though, the top of this OT class is just weak.

Totally shocked youโ€™d post something like this. Youโ€™re normally far more protective of previous posts about $7 million bargains.

So your draft priorities would be?

1. OT?

2. OG?

3. Pass Rush?

To me all of those should be a priority and in no particular order.  I would definately add TE and safety to that mix as well.

What would I like to see?  I would go offensive line first and then defense often and frequently.  They have to get help at LB, safety, and especially pass rush.  I personally don't care in what order but I want playmakers for once on that defense.

Iโ€™ve checked out some mock drafts and I didnโ€™t see many OT prospects listed in the top 15.  Not to say some of those sources didnโ€™t overlook the position, but it seems like a good draft year for elite DL near the top of the draft.

I completely agree the Packers need help at the OT positions - both as an eventual starter at RT if Bulaga isnโ€™t back and also some depth behind Bahktari.

But if a stud DL or DE like Ed Oliver or Jeff Simmons is sitting there say at 10 and they are BPA I donโ€™t think you can automatically pass on him.  I think Daniels is entering the last year of his contract and who knows if heโ€™s retained long term?

Itโ€™s not that different if they are picking at #12 and a stud CB like Greedy Williams is there. A position of strength today may not be the case a year from now.

Of course, Gute has also shown a willingness to go after FA so they can supplement the roster that way to fill in the holes but I totally support BPA in the draft.

We don't just need OL on offense.  How many times have we seen AR hold the ball over :05 because nobody is open, even when he isn't being rushed or the OL is doing their job.  That could be 50/50 stale routes/plays and lack of WR/TE talent.  We are going to need a #2 WR and #1 TE.

Yeah, but how much of this is due to the scheme?  Look what the Patriots did to the Packers without Gronkowski.  They were far from stacked.

Also, supposing Cobb doesn't return, there is still Allison.

My inclination is that we would gain more by better protecting Rodgers from occurrences of a collapsing pocket than we would lose by Rodgers having no one to throw to.  And we could lose less with respect to Rodgers having no one to throw to by an improvement in scheme.

But, I admit it.  I am all in on the need to highly prioritize offensive line.

Finally, a better offensive line ought to lessen the chance Rodgers gets hurt.

Oh, one other thing.  A better o-line also improves the running game.

I don't want to minimize the importance of the OL. The Packers without a doubt need to replace the right side of the OL. They will have plenty of cap room to keep Bulaga. But you can't count on him as a starter anymore.

Having said that, if the Packers are sitting with a top 10 or lower pick, I just think they need a blue chip game changer. To me, that's either a pass rusher, a ball hawk safety,  a shut down CB or a WR.

I think about guys like Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald, Earl Thomas, Julio Jones, AJ Green, Bradley Chubb, Bosa, etc. All top 1st round picks. The Packers may not be this high in the draft again for a long time. At least let's hope not.

It doesn't appear that OT is all that good a draft this year. I'd rather see the Packers get a sure fire talent at pass rusher or safety (think an Earl Thomas) that can change the face of a defense for GB.

The Left OT position may be weak in this draft, but there are a fair number of guys playing OT that are projected to be better at Right Tackle or Guard. Those guys go towards the end of the 1st round and 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Drafting in the top of round one my preference is they take the best DL or OLB available. Then in the lower round 1 pick from the Saints, and the high 2nd round pick, OL and or DL/OLB (whichever they did not get in the higher first pick) or TE. In any order.

As of right now I'm really liking the TE, Noah Fant from Iowa for our lower 1st round pick from the Saints, and Right tackle in the second. We should be able to get a good guard in round 3 or with our  2 4ths. Safety help in the 3rd or 4th as well. Could also use another WR or CB in that area also.
