It's really bizarre.

They would take a 9M cap hit if injured, but they are still eating a $6.8M cap hit next year by releasing him, so you cut the guy to save like 2M next year?

Money was not much of an issue with Smith's courtship as the Cowboys are set to pay the bulk of his 2021 salary. Dallas owes Smith -- who signed a five-year, $64 million deal in 2019 -- the remainder of his $7.2 million base salary. While his release was surprising, it does make financial sense as Smith's role along the defense was being reduced and the team ran the risk of his contract for 2022 being guaranteed due to a possible season-ending injury. Smith was set to make $9.2 million in base salary in 2022 with an $11.8 million cap hit. Now, he leaves $6.8 million in dead money against the Cowboys 2022 cap.

A decent job of a copy and paste without citing the source. Sounded a bit rehearsed, but kudos. Sorry, just a pet peeve πŸ™‚

I liked Douglas coming out of college. Biggest knock on him was his lack of speed. Here are his testing numbers compared to average CB numbers. Big / physical and quick in short distances. Maybe use him in press coverage with 2 high safety behind?

Per reports it's also a one year deal for Smith.  This shouldn't alter the Packers plans to move on from Adams/Z if they want to.

Over 7 ft tall this guy is going to be a beast! Fuck Ed β€œToo Tall” Jones. We’ve now got our own giant!

I really don’t see any downside to this signing. If you don’t sign him, you have Oren and Ty backing up Campbell and the oft-injured Barnes. If he sucks, it can’t be any worse than Oren and Ty backing up Campbell and the oft-injured Barnes. At the very worst, it’s probably a push. But odds are his signing will be an upgrade, if even just a bit.

Carolina general manager Scott Fitterer sent a 2023 sixth-round pick to New England for Gilmore, who had been set to be released later in the day. The 31-year-old from nearby Rock Hill, South Carolina, is expected to come off the physically unable to perform list after Week 6.

GUNTED!

GUNT tried to get him but they didn't have the cap room to pull it off.
