Suck merchants or not, you still need bodies to play ST. Martin showed some promise last year, but moving him to OLB says they were trying to find a spot. He's not an OLB. But whatever, he's gone. Not the first 5th round bust, not the last.

So keep guys that can't play their designated roster position as well as ST?

How about getting new guys altogether?

Martin couldn't play OLB because he can't get on the field at all.

Got a 7th in 2022 for Hollman.

Not conditional and it's apparently the pick the Bears sent in the Miller trade. Excellent move by Gutey to get something for a guy that wasn't going to make the roster anyway.

It's the Texans as well, so the pick is likely to be at the top of the 7th round.

Cobb and a 6th rounder (likely to be late in the round) for Hollman and a 7th (likely to be at the top of the 7th).

God I hope all this MVS talk continues past preseason.

It will.
Luke Getsy used to be the WR coach back in 2016-7 and he told MLF that he wanted to take on MVS as a special project this offseason. One of the things Luke provided were all kinds of unique drills and training concepts for WRs - and Jordy & Adams both commented on how much he helped them.  So Luke has the pedigree to mentor MVS and he specifically asked for that job.

MVS has the talent + desire + coaching - hope it all comes together in 2021

It's not that Martin was incredible or anything but I cannot believe Oren Burks beat him out. Burks has been absolutely awful ever since joining the team. Yes he is one of their stronger special teams players but he is horrible overall. We have to have the worst ILB core in the NFL no??

No "conspiracy theory" here, just experience. 5th round draft choices who have coaches praising him during rookie camp https://www.packersnews.com/re...rter%2F3418830001%2F are not typically cut less than a year later. Work habits, motivation to learn, relationship with coaches, relationship with teammates, following general rules, it all factors in.

Burks has been the dime linebacker in the new scheme and better than Martin.

I'll believe Burks is better when he doesn't look completely fucking lost during the regular season.

Not that I give a particular crap about Martin but Burks has a shit ton to prove.

The new GM is off to a good start.

He needs to stay healthy enough to actually be on the field and not look completely fucking lost.

I can't see EQ on the 53 . I guess stranger shit has happened but...

He's lost for the season due to a hammy?  Did it snap it 5 different places and pop out the back of his leg?

He's not actually lost for the year, its more a procedural thing.

He won't be healed up by cut-down day...and you can't cut an injured player. So GB puts him on IR now and as soon as he clears his physical, GB will release him and pay him for the games he missed. Since Funchess is a vested vet, he becomes a FA at that point and can sign wherever he likes, including GB.

Best guess: he will be playing somewhere by end of September
