He said multiple times that he doesn't want final say, just an opportunity to be heard.   I know you love to strawman, but if you really want understanding, you got to stop making up an argument that nobody is arguing.

I want to see what kind of cap space is going to come available on this.  Suggestions on getting an old vet like Geno Atkins, etc. is about the only move I could see happening anyways.  Can you recruit guys like that chasing a championship for one or two seaons?  Sure.

So, what happens if the guys 12 recruits don't sign?

It does take two to tango.  Now I get  it if it is a ridiculously low offer, but let's say it's a fair offer and said player goes elsewhere?

Gerg got a competitive offer, he left.  Jordy (by all accounts) got lowballed.

Rodgers isn't wrong about his reasoning in wanting to have a say.  But the time he should have pressed for change was a few years ago before he signed his contract.  When he had real leverage (no 1st round backup, a risk of being a FA) and could have actually had a say for multiple years.

Now he just gets Cobb and only gets a say for one year.  Too little too late.

As I recall Kumerow was a solid contributor on special teams.

someone say Malik Taylor got over 200 ST snaps last year. Did he do anything?

in sure gyre kept Shepherd as he had a great camp and he probably thought his upside was higher than WWJ

big mistake as we know

Or he did and they simply didn't follow through.

I'm more concerned about Cobb's contract $$$$ for next year. If he didn't reduce that to match the cash Houston kicked in this year how can we afford him next year.

And as for Rodgers being upset that some guys were cut, what ever happened to "It is better to cut a guy a year too early than a year too late"?

In Rodgers’ world the Packers should lean towards keeping guys a year too long rather than a year too soon? Good! Henry will be whining about the Northwestern twins for a long time. This is his definition of going all in?🤣

Looks like they are actually going all in for this year and not worrying about 2022 cap space for the time being. A welcome change.

But what happens whey Rodgers voices his opinion and Gute still cuts that player?  I think that will create additional problems which is why players don't typically have influence over personnel decisions.

So, is he is saying he never had a chance to offer opinions?   Does that mean in camp/meetings  he never mentioned to his QB coach or theWR coach that Jake was looking good and he would love to have him?  He, never in passing told the WR coach that he and Jordy had a great connection and the team should do whatever it could to keep him.

From what little I hear, he is not shy about expressing opinions and I find it hard to believe he did not offer those opinions in the past.

I guess I am saying  he did offer suggestions and the team either listened  and acted on those suggestions or it listened and passed on them.

Whats different now?

Can GB not hire a fucking media coach to keep all these ****s from running their off? Jesus fuck. If you’re taking sides with this issue and believe one side is in the right then you’re delusional. They’re all ****s.

I think Gute said exactly that yesterday, in not so many words.  He said AR has always had input but that it was now a matter of "incorporating that input" or something like that.

Gutekunst, like Thompson and Wolf before him, is a talent evaluator. None of the 3 should ever be put in front of a mic to discuss the business of football. Let them talk about the players, that's what they do best.

What we are seeing is the huge leadership gap between Harlan to Murphy. I really miss Harlan.

Then he still had the opportunity to be involved. Isn't it better to have the chance to make a difference than no chance at all?

I guess I don't know how he'll react to not being listened to.  Sounds like he may have voiced opinions before that weren't heeded?

I guess I'm not seeing the logical connection between trying and failing to lure in a free agent player and not being listened to.

In the past he wanted to be involved in this way and the Packers said no thank you. That is my idea of not being listened to.

There's plenty of dumbfuckery from all sides, but the burden of being in a leadership position is knowing not how to consistently step on your own dick...

Me neither. I'd need a lot shorter legs!

That's a fair assessment, but part of being an NFL GM is being able to handle these situations. Ted never screwed up at the podium because he was intensely cagey and never said anything. He was complementary to everyone, even people like Favre who he had to have hated, and never commented about anyone but his own team. I get the sense part of Gute's mandate is to be more accessible and friendly with the media, but he needs to take a page from Ted's book and just only say nice things and or nothing.

I guess I'm not explaining myself clearly.

So, sounds like he tried to give input before but was not listened to (or maybe was a wee bit) but they never signed his suggestions.

Now, if they openly take his advice but can't land the player(s), what will 12's reaction be?  Oh well, gave'er the old college try, maybe get'em next time or will he be mad they didn't go as far as he thought they should?

I still don't know it I'm explaining myself right.

I think Rodgers knows he’s probably done in GB after this year, so the input or no input really doesn’t matter.

As for the Gute comment “Aaron wanted him,” could someone please explain to me how a multi billion dollar business can’t hire a PR person or head of communications to coach the FO or respond to questions appropriately?   I get that Gute was probably ticked on ARs comments but get over it already.

Watching Randall Cobb’s press conference. Such an engaging, intelligent and gracious person.

I hope he can get open and CTFB for 17 games.  Don’t care if he is engaging, intelligent or gracious.  This is football not the Miss America Pageant.
