A sad, tragic ending for a very good football player. Same goes for Derrick Thomas.

Simmons died in a car accident after rolling the vehicle going over 100 MPH with a BAC of 0.19.

Thomas was driving 70 MPH on icy roads without a seatbelt. He died from a blood clot after being paralyzed.

Unfortunately, one of the reasons these guys were such good football players was that they had no fear of anyone and intimidated the hell out of opposing players.

It's amazing Lawrence Taylor didn't die young. No one was crazier than him.

That's why I think Sam Wiiliams is in play. If he cleared the interview, don't be surprised if we take him ahead of other teams.

.. and he is someone we want to draft...

Otherwise reach a little bit and make sure we at least get someone we really want.

Look...if all the guys we really want at 22 are gone, then trade it, if there is a deal to be made...there is a ton of value in rounds 2 through 5... and maybe it turns out to be a #1 next year, plus a 2nd or 3rd round pick... a lot can happen... don' rule out any possibilities.

After reading Downer McGinns article today on Wrs and the comments from pro scouts, Packers may be better served using what they got and fortify the offensive line and defense and run and run and run the ball. None of the Wrs available in teh draft are expected to do much. He was down on Burks, Watson, and Pickett, wrs I was thinking would be good fits. Now I want them to draft an offensive or defensive linemen first and Trey McBride (who got a lot of love) with their later 1st round pic.

-------

1. TREY McBRIDE, Colorado State (6-3 Β½, 245, 4.56, 1-2): With scouts guessing he would clock between 4.7 and 4.8, he stunned them with the 4.56 at pro day after electing not to run at the combine. β€œIf he had run 4.7s I’d have been happy,” one personnel man said. β€œNow that he ran 4.55, he might go at the very end of the first round. I’ve been a fan of his for three years. I knew he would be undervalued. He’s going to walk in and be a Day 1 starter. Led his high school (Fort Morgan, Colo.) in home runs, played basketball, he’s done it all. Everybody knew that the ball was coming his way and he still caught 91 passes (actually 90) and dropped three.” Three-time team captain. β€œThere’s nothing I don’t like about him,” said another scout. β€œYou could say lack of height. Blocking might be the best part of his game. He is freaking tenacious. He’s also reliable and sure-handed. He’s not as long as (George) Kittle. I see more Kyle Juszczyk. H-back, fullback, bad ass.” Finished with 164 catches for 2,100 (12.8) and 10 TDs. Wonderlic of 18. β€œI compared him to a mini-Jason Witten in that he’s not a naturally gifted athlete but he’s very, very efficient, has excellent feel and really good hands,” said a third scout. β€œNot a blow-the-top-off explosive tight end but he knows how to get open and is going to catch everything. He was their offense. Without a doubt (he’ll start).” His hand size (10 1/8) tied Jeremy Ruckert for the largest at the position.

I think either Edge, Safety, IDL or WR makes sense in the first round. Depending on how the board falls, one of those positions will be there at #22 and another position will be there at #28. We can use an Edge Rusher, especially now that Zadaroius is gone. A Safety makes sense because of the uncertainty surrounding both Savage's and Amos's status with the Packers after next season. A stud IDL, to pair with Kenny Clark, long-term, would give us a fearsome defensive front. We know we need a WR who can stretch the field, as well. Gute and Co have some decisions to make. Our first two rounds are critical ones for getting top notch players out of this draft.

Good point...hard to argue with the tape, though.

Some draft mockers think he could be ready by TC, most believe he'll play in 2022.  I think we'll know the unofficial outlook on his rehab by how high he gets drafted.  Teams will get information we won't have access to.  If he drops he likely doesn't play this year.

Why not worry about a safety next year ? We are set at least this year. A rookie safety next year would not be horrible if we even do lose Amos or Savage. Maybe if a good was there later in the draft. IMHO

Savage was pretty bad last year. Hopefully he bounces back but he kinda sucked.

Thats what I was seeing. He acted like he didn't want to get hurt when he had to tackle or be physical. I loved it when we drafted him and a little his first year but since I haven't been impressed. but then BAM he makes an interception or something and I forgive a tiny bit.

Rashan Gary was injured. Shoulder was so bad there was a question whether or not he'd need season-ending surgery.

People don't remember when drafting an injured player works out.

True, but that's because the list behind him of players not working out is longer.  It's a crap shoot as it is, why start with a negative factor right off the bat?  Especially for a guy that relies on speed and shiftiness, an ACL injury could leave him never at 100%.  If he fell to the third or fourth round, maybe take a shot, but certainly not in the first two rounds.  Of course I'll eat my words if he becomes another Justin Jefferson, but I'd rather another team take that chance in the first two rounds.  Besides, we need production immediately from our first two rounds.

If we get a Safety this year, he will have a full year in Joe Barry's defense, when the Packers make their decisions regarding Amos and Savage, next off season. Getting a guy into rhythm in our defense now, makes more sense, to me, than getting a Safety next off season and only having a short time to get him ready to play. Now he can learn from Amos and Savage. GO PACK, GO!!!
