My guess would be IP address

I compared posting IP addresses for Sarge and Devil Dog. They are identical. Email addresses are similar. Others have pointed out the similarities in style, to the point that in some messages there was information that appeared to be repeated almost verbatim.

I just want to point out that scoop's title to this thread is so good/funny/appropriate on so many levels....props to you my man.

The thought of a hoax briefly crossed my mind, but I didn't think anyone could go so low.

Some people really need to get a life.

For the 'veteran' forum members who have been here a long time, this place is like a tight knit group of friends/family. Many of them have met on various outings, packer games, etc. We do care about one another-that has been shown time and time again.

And despite that, apparently someone feels the need to manipulate, lie, and play on other peoples genuine concerns as a joke.

Ya know, I often wondered about some things with them. I remember Sarge claiming to have participated in the Korean War, but his "sister" Peekaboo being active in the Iraq war? And getting pregnant after returning home? That would mean she could be 40-45 years old, tops. Sarge would have to be in his 70's by now, so they would have been born 30 or so apart? I kept quiet because their "family" situation was really none of my business, and I didn't want to come across as nosy. What a prick this clown is.......

Scoop probably saw Old Sarge at the baptism of Peek's baby, where Devil Dawg was the godfather and Scoop was invited by a misdirected email.

Back in the Old Sarge thread, I went along with it initially, not knowing that there was this possibility. However, I guess there were some things said in that thread by Devil Dog that were directed at me, something to the effect of "Peek was told by Sarge on his deathbed that I was one of the posters at x4 to steer clear of", something to that effect. That was the first hint for me. I also noticed one major thing- if "Devil Dog" was a retired ex-marine, they sure didn't talk like one. It definitely had a female tone to it.

In a series of PMs to "Devil Dog", I got all the proof I needed- this person was the same. I didn't blow the whistle on this, but I knew it was only a matter of time when someone would. The whole Jake, Peek, Devil Dog this was one person, periodically changing identities. It was almost soap opera-ish: Sarge was killed off the make way for a new character. I guess some people get entertained by such things.

Yes, I had noticed this as well. I have a friend who is 20 years older than his youngest sibling and figured anything was possible. It never dawned on me someone could be that messed in the head to post as an entire family of people on a message board like this one.

I think Sarge got the boot several years ago after one of his rants and then came back a year or so ago as Old Sarge.

That's right, I had forgotten that there was also a "Sarge" before there was an "Old Sarge."

That's sick!

The thing I remember most about Peekaboo (and someone alluded to it above) is that "she" originally came on and talked about her service career and got all kinds of accolades and praise from people here. Then, over the course of the next 12 or 18 months or so - she would pop back in from time to time, but each time she would start an "I'm back" thread, which would be followed by the exact same praise and accolades. Then she'd leave, come back and announce herself, get the back-patting she seemed to so desperately need, and then leave again.

If anyone disagreed with her on anything, she would launch a diatribe about how she's in uniform and thus knows more about all this stuff than any of the rest of us.

It was really weird and extremely needy.

I thought I saw Old Sarge's image on one side of my grilled cheese sandwich last night but just decided to shrug it off.

I think it was in a thread complaing about the refs in a Vikings game (when Sharper pulled the stupid int return as the clock expired) where Peek came in and changed the subject to how spoiled we were to worry about such things while she was going off to war the next day. That was the first time my antenna went up.

Ironically, this will also end up in the archive, as a different kind of "tribute".
