Ok.

I thought if Sarge actually would have done that it would have been brilliant.

I didn't really converse with Sarge, DD, or Peekaboo, nor did I give any condolences in his passing thread (I don't think). So because of that maybe I am not as hurt and ****ed as some are. But, if this person is indeed sane, and not a product of mental illness, you gotta give them a little credit. The different persona's of this poster did a damn good job of getting under people's skin.

Obviously if this person is sane, they have absolutely no life, but I do find it a little funny. It kind of gives you a quick reminder of what a lot of personalities on an internet forum amount to. Zilch.

I met MN Cheese, and have played in a seperate FF league with guys like Max, Maynard, PA, BPG, Brak, etc. So obviously not ALL internet posters are full of ****, but I would venture a bet that a lot are.

While we are outing people is there anyway to get an IP check on JustAFan?

TIA

For what it's worth, the IP addresses (for ChetCheddar and JustAFan) don't match. Not definitive, but enough for me to give somebody the benefit of the doubt.

And in general, I'd prefer that members didn't "call out" those they suspect to be smurfs. Or if they want to do that, PM me (like Favre shoulda done re: Javon Wink )

Well if what many of you suspect to be true, I am quite sure Sarge is having one heck of a belly laugh. 12 pages thats better than one gets when they do an "I'm leaving" thread.

It's too bad that I guess we'll never be able to find out whether he's belly laughing or not since he ain't ever comin' back. Too bad so sad.

I am totally full of ****, at least until I take my Metamucil.
Don't everybody forget a couple other "casualties" in the "family" whose lives, not to mention deaths, are now more than suspect: I think there was supposedly a nephew killed in Iraq and a family friend killed in a car accident around the same time as Sarge's demise. Something close to that anyway. And way back in the distant past, either Sarge or Jake confided in us that Peekaboo's first love had been killed in action somewhere or other, and that's why she had never loved again and never married, until she recently found true happiness in a cabin up north with a former Mountie. It's somewhat a relief to know that this tragic family is probably nonexistant or close to it.

Sheesh. I'm reading this thread with a sense of disbelief and deja vu.

I am heavily active in my own messageboard (completely unrelated to sports), and about three years ago, we had a member stage "her death," too.

Ironically, my mom died from her battle with cancer--really, truly--and it was announced at my site, and the very next morning, this other woman's "friend" announced that she had heard from this supposedly dead gal's sister that "Lesa had died."

Several weeks later, we received an e-mail from someone who knew Lesa IRL, and she said, "Lesa is very much alive."

So we started to investigate. We checked for death announcements. We checked for death certificates. We could find absolutely no official record of her "death."

So one of us called her place. A woman answered AS Lesa. Mad

Why the hell did she do this?

I imagine it was an attention getting device at first (the cancer). And then, when she saw that my mom died and I was receiving so many condolences, she thought it'd be a good time to "die" as well.

We outed her death to the people who needed to know.

What was really creepy is that "Dead Lesa" (as we came to call her) would sign onto AOL ...

---

Needless to say, that experience really makes me question everything in cyberspace--and this confirms that one has to be skeptical.
I just hope I don't get busted for being DarrenthemanSharper and Grave Digger!! I have come to my senses and realized Sharper is no longer "the man", so I don't use it. The only difference is that I informed everyone of my change and everyone understands why I changed (I hope)!! Even though it is just a message board, that is still a pretty rotten thing to do. I mean, Sarge was always had pretty descent posts, and even though I didn't know him, I kind of felt bad he died. Just another Tupac wanna-be I guess!

I'm reading this entire thread for the first time (I had no clue of this "Lazerus" fellow and did not make the connection that was offered by the thread title) and have a similar sense of disbelief, frustration and really embarassment that I was duped by this person.

I have seen this before and, like you, I was in awe that anyone would go through the careful planning and, quite frankly, have the time over a period of roughly two years to create a complete bogus family online. In addition, She/he had multiple "online relationships" going on with unsuspecting males that had visited the chatroom. Understandably those folks were quite embarassed after they learned the reality of the situation.

I think it is rare but definately not unheard of. This person was also "found out" by her/his IP address which apparently remained the same despite the fact that several "family members" were supposedly posting from different housing locations. And, like with the Sarge situation, in retrospect we were able to go back and find several examples of suspiscious posting patterns. After some careful investigative work by the chatroom owner she/he was exposed and banned for life. I have no doubt whatsoever, however, that this person is doing the same thing in another chatroom today. She/he seemed genuinely addicted to it.. almost like her/his own demented version of a soap opera.

The sad thing in that situation is that this person was so ever-pervasive in that chatroom that it led to a net loss of almost half the regular posters who were genuinely p***ed off, embarassed, and/or disilussioned that they left that chatroom and never returned.

I would only ask that those who feel embarrassed because they were "duped" take solice in the fact that they are not the only ones this has happened to. Take it as a life-lesson learned. Finally, I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to scoop for exposing the person and banning him.

After all these years, Legacy?? cry
