Well, I hate to say it, but some people don't take a forum like this as seriously as others. Do we honestly know that any one posting here is who or what they say they are? I'm not saying its right to pull a fast one, but I wouldn't be shocked if there were more role players out there.

I've always known that you aren't who you say you are. You're NOT justanotherpackerfan. You're really Brak...or he's really you. I'm on to you Mister. Wink

You know, its a real complement to be compared to Brak...but I really don't see it, our posting styles are complete opposites...he's witty, intellegent and very diverse, I on the other hand, pretty much just go for self-depricating humor.

Man, you are my hero. I always knew I felt this way about you.

Thank me.
But Why? Confused

This is all just too bizarre

Well that sure tarnished the DD acronym (or whatever its called) big time. I'm so ashamed for the DD acronym that I just might have to start over as Bull_Moose. I mean, like how can I post anymore with my little sig line at the end as DD ... Cool Its just too embarrasing to be remotely connected to this appearently lunatic fringe episode of the X4 saga.

Anyway, just so's were clear, this DD had nothing to do with the other DD, in any shape manner or form. So please dont take out your angst on me Wink

Scoop, just curious, not that its any of my business. But, 99% of the posters who have been banned go quietly away with no fanfare. IOW rarely is there an announcement about it. Yet in this case we have a thread on a banning. Why did you announce this particular banning vs most of the infamous others who just went away?

Dare I try it ..... DD ... Cool
For those of you playing along at home, we've been following this situation for a while. There were never any true, hard slip ups, but he came pretty darn close. Neither of them really drank beer and there's this:

DD: A good Becks or Old Style is a treat for me. I'd go through a six pack a day if it didn't mean 20 laps around the track to dump the weight. I truly love beer, good beer, almost anything but bock, but my brew downing days are in the past. Too many other problems not needing mention with my taking a brew for anything other than a treat.

Old Sarge: Since I'm not supposed to drink beer, I'd take a bottle of almost anything brewed with hops. Would I love to sip, very slowly, savoring every drop of a St. Pauly Girl, Becks, Old Style or ANYTHING.

Not hard proof, but enough to make you go hmmmmm...
If you search for "Old Sarge" using google (you might have to be a little creative) it looks like we might not be the first message board to have been infiltrated. I found one for veterans where they are accusing someone posting as "Old Sarge" of being a liar, and pretending to have been wounded in action, etc. I won't give direct links to any of this, since there is no way for me to prove that it's the same person, but it is pretty interesting...
I think it's the diversity of this particular involution that interposes elements of enigmaticness that heretofore would've rendered a narcissistic approach meaningful in the abstract of cyber pettitfoggery, and tends to invoke some trepidation when feelings of conviviality circumscribe the essence of most of us in the forum during times of such odius deportment and oscillating inurbanity.

As noted, because it was a hoax and I thought it was important that the truth be known.
Ok...so the only time that he came really close to slipping up was when he posted info about his computer and internet setup. You can see by this that it had to be the same guy. But yet there was enough doubt that we didn't feel comfortable saying anything about it since it would be pretty rude to accuse somebody of this if we were wrong.

But here is the hardest evidence I found a number of weeks ago through doing some searches:

Old Sarge: I made a mistake and downloaded a program to replace my EZ firewall and virus protection. It was something like WinPro2005. It ran about a day and then my computer couldn't seem to find the internet. I could do things on the computer, just not contact the internet. I worked with a Road Runner techie to see if this problem could be resolved. Nothing seemed to work. Finally, after being told I should probably have a local repair person look over my computer, I uninstalled the darn program and after a reboot, was back in business and able to use the internet again without any apparent trouble. I have since reinstalled the new version of EZ and am pleased with their improvements so that's ok. I use Windows 98, second edition and have a load of upgrades. That's my computer, I like it and the operating system so don't want to chage that even if by many standards, it's not the best.

Anyone able to help? BTW, what about just putting in my Win98 disk and hitting run? Would that accomplish anything?

DD: Henry, Last I used was 98 second edition. You mean, sorry if I seem dense about this, I'm OK with turning on the computer and I know where the keys are on the keyborad but pretty much else is over my haid, when my XP calls for a disk, all I need do is put in my old 98 and that should do it? Almost sounds too easy. So, if that's the case, do I or don't I buy this $39 bluelight special? Thanks for the assist.

So they both use Road Runner and are Windows 98.

Old Sarge: Thanks to all who offered their solutions. I solved the problem a bit differently. I went from Win 98 to XP, from my old computer to a little bit better one with double hard drives, one as a backup, from 128 of RAM to 384 and from my 300 or something processor to a ADM Athloong 1.34GHz. New hard drive is 40 GHz. Since I didn't use 20% of my old 7 gig hard drive, I don't think I have to worry about running out of space. I was able to download most of the stuff from the old HD to the new one, am still working on bringing back my address book and have already loaded all my passwords to those systems I use regularly. Firewall and anti virus all in place. I had the opportunity to pick the whole deal up for a very low price and had a lesson in configuring it so it's very similar to my old reliable Win 98. Spent almost 10 hours working to get stuff back while dumping other stuff. Only thing we didn't do is keep the old Zip 100 drive. That second hard drive is even easier for me to use. So, while I didn't use your suggestions, I think I walked in the right direction. I'm pleased, greatly so.

Devil Dog:

After reading all the comments, I think I'll just stand pat with what I have. I am on cable with road runner and have a 1.34 GHz AMD-Athon processor, 384 MB of Ram and God only knows how big my hard drive is, I don't use 1/8 of it. I also have installed, a second HD with about 8 Ghz which I use for backing up stuff and I have two disk drives for CD's (one's 50x and the other 32x) so I can, if I want, burn a CD - not something that even interests me but it's there. I also use Road Runner's EZ firewall and virus stuff. The system was made by his friend, not store bought. For me it's fast enough, has enough capacity and I'm satisfied with it other than a few minor things. I don't intend to scrub what I have and start over, it's taken me too long to get everything where I want it to go back and start over. I'm happy with a computer that I can turn on, do my work, contact the family with email and visit a site or two as well as get information on topics that interest me. I don't play any compter games except for poker and some solitare. So, knowing all this, is there any reason for me to worry about anything? Only thing I am getting is a copy of Word since XP won't use the dictionary in the Works program I use thus my email spell checker doesn't work. I'm sure most of you have a much bigger use of your computer than I have and probably need all the bells and whistles. I just downloaded Netscape Navigator's Beta 8 and have been using it but I'm still not sure if I like it better than MS Explorer. Those are my 'huge' computer decisions.

So they both had Windows 98 on a CD, used Road Runner internet and had the same oddly configured PC. It was almost enough to blow the whistle right there, but like I said, you don't want to be wrong on these things.
