This team became "MLFs boys" after that 3 week stretch of NY Giants, Tampa and Carolina. MLF held it together with Duct tape and bailing wire then proceeded to beat the Vikings, Bears and Cowboys in the playoffs.....and nearly pulled off the ultimate stunner in SF.
When we were all screaming to fire Berry after that Carolina game, he handled it perfectly if not expertly and said...."A change at this time isn't what's best for the Green Bay Packers"
All things in due time....Hafley said it...."He's 57-26 or something like that...."
Everyone should be really excited where this team is currently positioned. They are currently 20-1 / 22-1 to win it all and opened at 25-1.

Definitely passes the first impression test. He at least has a vision and philosophy. So much of DC ability is when to call what. Defense is hard . The game is slanted towards allowing the offense to succeed. Every defense has holes. I'm just hoping they tackle well and hurry the QB up when needed more times than not. It's not about predominantly press or zone it's knowing when to use which to disrupt offensive tendencies. It's a given defenses are going to give up big plays, but can they create optimal conditions that create turnovers or snuff out the 3rd down play because they're ready for it. A good DC is a gambler that intuits when to push his chips in.
For me it always starts with tackling. If you can't get the defense to do that well all else is lost. You can talk scheme and energy and this and that, but the test is can you get your defense to consistently put the man with the ball on the ground around the first point of contact. Nothing frustrates an offense more than a lack of YAC. Offenses mane mistakes and turn the ball over when they're frustrated and forced to try to do too much.

So is Hafley saying that GB will not send Preston out to cover WRs? That we won't play 12 yards off the LOS on a 3rd Down and short? That guys have to wrap up on their tackles? If so, we are headed in the right direction, IMO!

Sounds like Rebrovich is the Big Picture guy, while former DL player Oghobaase is the technique guru.

Brooks was in RD1 of ESPN's 2023 draft re-draft.
I'm sorry but after the haul Gute pulled in last year, I have to really set my expectations lower for this go-round. He's got to fall back to the mean by some distance. Which is OK as long as he doesn't fall back to 2021.
Something tells me the 2021 draft was due to not being able to have face-to-face time with the players in 2020 and early 2021. Thanks COVID.
MUCH more impressive that Barry was in first presser.. Some things that I wanted that I heard... 1) TEACH - mentioned numerous times that coaching is really teaching 2) Energy from the entire staff. I always told our players that for us to be good , I couldn't be the person in the gym with the most energy at practice .... I was talking to my assistants as much as I was my players. 3) Put the players in position to do what they do best 4) Make sure that they players are physically and mentally capable of performing what you are asking.
Hafley has his work cut out for him...

- Allowed 8.2 yards per attempt when failing to generate pressure, ranked 29th
- Ranked 3.1 yards after contact per attempt to running backs, ranked 25h
- Defense allowed 20 or more yards on 6.1% of plays, ranked 30th
- Allowed 28.7% conversion rate on third and long (seven or more yards), ranked 28th
- Forced opponents into a three-and-out on 28.9% of drives, ranked 27th
How did those stats look in the last 4 games + DAL? Tackling has long been a problem in GB but they seemed to noticeably improve in that final run. So did their 3rd and long performance. Up to then, they rolled with their soft zone on 3rd's and long and we all collectively wailed.
Press man and sure tackling need to go hand in hand. Because if your guy wins at the catch, you may be the only one to bring him down.

As they wasted so many years with some mediocre dudes as DC. One of whom they were warned by many NOT to hire but hired him anyway.
Here's some Billy Ray Valentine highlights from last year, he's earning that # 37 sorta like Shields did. He's a rather volatile fella, loves to get under the WRs skin and seems like he can handle press man coverage

Your definition of "mediocre" is flawed. Mike Pettine coordinated top 10 defenses (yards)in six of his eight years as a DC with three different teams. Three top 10 in points allowed and five in takeaways. The guy was well above average.
