College career perfect on XP!
Did they cut the other dude then?
Packers have his jersey number, 47 available
Let's Go Brayden.
@AndyHermanNFL:
New Packers kicker Brayden Narveson in preseason:
6/7 fg | 2/2 xp (missed fg was from 58)
If the kicking thing doesn't work out he can be the permanent ND Leprechaun
Now we know why he was signed
@AndyHermanNFL: With the addition of Brayden Narveson - the Packers streak of udfa’s making the opening day roster continues (assuming he’s on the roster Week 1).
From that USA Today link above:
Greg Joseph is expected to be released in a corresponding roster move.
Narveson went undrafted out of NC State this year. During the preseason, Narveson made 6-of-7 field goals — with his only miss coming from 58 yards — and both extra point attempts. Among his six field goals was a make from 59 yards to beat the Seattle Seahawks.
The Packers cut Anders Carlson and kept Joseph on the initial 53-man roster on Tuesday. Narveson will take Joseph’s roster spot.
Narveson made a 57-yard field goal during his final season at NC State. He connected on 18 of 23 field goals and all 38 extra point attempts in 2023. Over five seasons at a collegiate career, Narveson made all 196 extra point attempts and 71 of 91 field goals.

Would have been good from 65.
He looks like Banjo boy could be his dad
Gutekunst said he is not patient with specialists and needs to be more patient. Said there were people who thought Mason Crosby wasn't worth keeping after a few seasons, but patience (by Ted Thompson) paid off. He seemed to be saying they will be very patient with Narveson.

LaFleur said this is unchartered territory for him to have a kicker come in this late and be the guy. He said he's been in spots where they've brought kickers in and out and it's not fun. He said his play-calling could be affected early on when he's facing 4th downs.

It wasn't down the middle so the x4 kicking experts will not accept it.

I find this odd. On one hand, he seems to be saying he'll be patient with Narveson. On the other hand, he spent a draft pick on a Kicker, said kicker had an up and down season (and camp), and has decided to NOT be parient.
Tuesday: "Congratulation, Joseph! You made it!"
Wednesday: "Get the hell outta here, Joseph".

The whole "he seemed to be saying" is not what I took out of it when I heard him speak. I mostly heard him say "I'm not patient with specialists, I should be, but I'm not".
He mentioned JK Scott who went on to be a good punter. But I didn't get the sense that Gute was going to change his ways because he said the standard in GB is to preform. They're not going to wait around for you to figure it out if all you do is kick a ball.
I think MLF’s mindset weighed heavily on Gute’s decision regarding Carlson. He certainly wasn’t enamored of Anders by season’s end last year and nothing the kid did in the pre-season served to allay any doubts. It would have taken a lot for MLF to get past all those missed XP’s last season plus that missed 41-yarder versus SF.

He just had to wear the suit one day.
Also, gebins and credoes for Sherwood Schwartz's tasteful use of cultural appropriation in the name of "art."
Greg really pulled off that Mariachi outfit!
It's all good that Gutey listened to me about not trusting Joseph.
Gute: kickee da ball good you stay, kickee da ball bad you gone.
Actually I sent Gutey some cheese. Wisconsin cheese and curds too!!!!!
I hope Gutey sees something in Narve that the stats don't show. In college, Narve was perfect on XPs out of 196 attempts, but his overall FG percentage was only 78%. He spent one year with Iowa State (2-4, 50%), three with Western Kentucky (13-14, 23-29, 15-21, 79.6%), and his last with NC State (18-23, 78%).
In the preseason, he was 6-7 (85.7%). His only miss was from 58 against NO. His makes were from 34, 21, 59, 26, 31, 46 (on the last play of the game to beat Seattle) for an average length of 36 yards.
While the long-distance make was a heck of a kick -- and it's always impressive to win on the last play of the game, especially from 40+ -- his stats aren't eye-poppers. Every GM has a position weakness, and I wonder if Gutey's kryptonite is kickers.

I don't think they are expecting Jan Stenerud...I think they are just expecting him not to miss 5 fucking XP and make a 40 yard field goal a 50/50 proposition.
I think they are hoping he's the best option of the 3 options they had. But right now, I don't think we can expect him to be more than a week-to-week option. It's his job until he shows otherwise, but it certainly isn't a lock he will be PK1 beyond the Iggles game.
Also, until proven otherwise, I'm not convinced the longsnapper is completely free from blame in this equation.
Narv-dog will be wearing #44. Been a long time since a kicker for the packers donned a number outside 1-19.
I know who to call!
