⁉️- About the 3 minute mark he says the Jets won't be saddled with $60M in dead cap if they cut Rodgers but he has to check into it....
Really??? From everything I understood, Rodgers contract has pretty much locked them in for 2025
We are all familiar with the term "coach killer".
A-Aron has taken it to a new level. He's an organization killer.
This is the organization known for little else in the last 50 years other than Belichick resigning via napkin to avoid the indignity of coaching them, and the butt-fumble. They weren't alive enough to kill in the first place.

From what I heard $49 million dead if he doesn't play in 25. $35 million dead in 26 if he does but retires after. There's a less than zero chance he comes back next year if for nothing else than to cash out one last time.
Also, with actual threads about how much several teams suck, and they do, should we appreciate the Packers a little more than we have so far?
It really sucks to be the Jets for the next couple years. They are screwed, newed and tattood no matter what happens with AR. IOW they are fucked no matter what occurs going forward. Woody has no more wood left.

I don't know if I should give it a thumbs up, a thumbs down, rolling on the floor laughing, or what. I hate to see a franchise with that much disfunction baked into any teams culture.

That hat is a commitment.
Rodgers made his bed, now he has to sleep in it or maybe he just shits in it.
It ain't like he's married to Johnny Depp....c'mon now!
Or Chelsea Handler, oops that’s pee.

Since this is all public info, it's easy to look this up. The $49m dead cap for 2025 is if he is cut with a pre-June designation. If they use a post-June designation his dead cap is $14m. But it's $14m every year for the next 3 years, plus another $7m in 2028. So obviously they would use a post-June designation to reduce his cap hit should they want to move on.
If he retires it's the same thing. Retiring is the same as being cut and how it affects the salary cap for the team is dependent on when the player signs the retirement papers (pre or post-June).
If it were me, I'd kind of want to cut him before June, eat it all in 2025, use that season to suck for Luck, and start my rebuild with a franchise left tackle, a hard nosed running back, and a quarterback from the third round who could get sacked 40 times a season for two seasons. I'd find a young cheap coach looking for experience, and I'd consult the league about letting my season ticket holders vote on the upcoming defensive play to run. That way my press conferences can be used to highlight hope on the offensive line, talk about the effort of our gutsy running back, and announce each week that the fans just didn't bring it today.
The Jets gave Rodgers everything he wanted, and it came back to bite them big-time. The only player they didn't get was Bahk, but he was never going to play on that field. The lesson every other GM or GM-wannabe has to take away is to not cede control of your roster, coaching hires, and playbook to any one player no matter how HOF-worthy he is. Gute had to learn that lesson as well. I expect we'll see more team officials taking a more controlled approach in the future: one year earlier is always better than one year too late, and the GM will control the roster, thank you very much.

Yeah I actually forgot to roll up the void years if he gets cut or retires. Here's the real numbers:
Pre-June cut/retirement
2025: $49m Dead Cap
Post-June cut/retirement
2025: $14m
2026: $35m
It's $49m either way, it just depends when they want to take the dead cap hit. They are almost for sure going to move on from Adams in the offseason which will save them $36m in cap space, which they can use to eat Rodgers dead cap money.

Very few players are in position to demand anything. Nor should they be.

As a ST Coordinator it is a bold move to study the Chargers and their Air Coriolos passing offense.

Players play, coaches coach, managers manage, and owners stay out of the way isn't a bad mission statement for a franchise.

Very true. But they had hope.
SO MUCH HOPE.
Nope.
Who'd want this over the hill, past his prime, coach killer? I am not even sure the Queens would be that dumb.

Oh yes ....the purple is coming for you Aaaaron!
And after the Lions get bounced in the playoffs this year because their QB is mediocre, how about seeing Rodgers in Detroit.

I've always heard that effect is most visible in the northern hemisphere.
He got everything he wanted in NY and it turned into a disaster. If he goes to another team, he’s going to want to be in charge of the offense and play GM. Good luck finding another team willing to let that happen.
At this point in his career he’s become a franchise ruiner….. although the Jets were a joke before he got there.
I just wonder what would've happened if he went to Denver in 2022... 🤔

I have often thought that too but from a Green Bay perspective. What would have been the impact on Jordan Love's development? Would it have been too quick too soon to be the starting QB and he crashes and burns (but the Packers have more draft picks from Denver) or does he make the progress we have seen these last 12 months and so should be even better and essentially a year ahead of what we are seeing just now (and still have a greater haul of draft picks)? 🤔

An excerpt from Russini at the Athletic:
I’m told Johnson has lost confidence in Rodgers’ ability to lead the team to their first playoff berth in 14 years, a drought that stands as the longest in the major North American professional sports leagues. There are some on the team who believe everyone is simply tiptoeing around the fact that Rodgers isn’t the same player anymore. I’m told no decisions have been made yet, but it appears increasingly likely that the four-time MVP, who is banged up, could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks, signaling the end of his disastrous time with the Jets. Some around the league say they won’t be surprised if Rodgers is cut in-season. As for Rodgers, his relationship with the owner has been strained for months — that’s not a secret in the building or the locker room. At this point, after conversations with sources with the team and around the league, my understanding is that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, just not for the New York Jets.
So they brought in all the players he liked, all the coaches he liked, fired people he didn't like, and now he's just like "see ya!". What other team is gonna want to take on this headcase?
It's also interesting that they are just now admitting he's not the player he once was. You could start to see that his last year in GB, especially when Love took over in that Philly game. The speed, quickness and arm strength of Love compared to Rodgers at that point was night and day. Rodgers just looked slow compared to Love.
Also hilarious that Rodgers has a strained relationship with the front office, once again. Color me shocked.

The cap hit would be beyond dramatic

"Front office" can also be termed "ownership"
Woody is in the same boat as Panthers ownership at this point.
Disaster doesn't begin to describe it and it's 100% on the ownership

He also stopped running MLF's offense after the first year and a half. He started whining about not liking all the pre-snap motions, bubble screens, reverses, which IRONICALLY not only worked extremely well, it helped him get another MVP.
The dude can get past his ego and being convinced he knows best. I can't imagine another team not seeing that and being willing to take that on. But this is the NFL and there are plenty of idiotic owners who think they know best.
