This from the AP:

BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s coronavirus infection rate climbed to its highest recorded level yet on Monday as what officials have called a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” gathers pace.

The national disease control center, the Robert Koch Institute, said the country has seen 201.1 new cases per 100,000 residents over the past seven days. That was above the previous record of 197.6 from Dec. 22 last year. While it’s still a lower rate than in several other European countries, it has set alarm bells ringing.

The seven-day infection rate has long ceased to be the only policy yardstick in Germany, with new hospital admissions now an important factor. Those are currently at just under 4 per 100,000 residents over a week — compared with a peak of about 15.5 last Christmas — but officials say hospitals are filling up in badly affected areas.

The disease control center said Monday that 15,513 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the past 24 hours — down from a record 37,120 on Friday, but figures are typically lower after the weekend. Another 33 deaths were recorded, bringing Germany’s total to 96,558.

Germany has struggled to find ways to pep up its much-slowed vaccination campaign. At least 67% of the population of 83 million is fully vaccinated, according to official figures, which authorities say isn’t enough. Unlike some other European countries, it has balked at making vaccinations mandatory for any professional group.

As at many times during the pandemic, Germany has a patchwork of regional rules. Most places restrict access to many indoor facilities and events to people who have been vaccinated, have recovered or been tested — with the latter now being excluded in some areas. Those rules are often enforced laxly.

Rules on whether schoolchildren must wear masks in class vary from state to state.

Well comorbidities and Covid have confused a lot of you. It’s made your brains sink. For example They’ve been counting people who had cardiovascular disease and Covid as just Covid. They’ve even counted cases that way. They were doing that last year.

No. They were not. That is flat out incorrect and is nothing more then a Tucker Carlson style talking point that has been debunked again and again.

AHA continues to debunk false claims about COVID-19 deaths and payments | AHA News

Data reported on Covid deaths from the DHS are those who died as a direct result of Covid.

Yes, other co-morbidities can play a role, but that's true with many causes of death. The patients we've seen and treated, including those who died, their primary cause of admission was Covid. Not their diabetes, not their high blood pressure, or not their obesity.

It was acute Covid 19. If they do not have it, they are not being hospitalized. And they are not dead as a result.

Explain Germany to us then..70% vaccination rate and mask mandates..yet their Covid cases have exploded. But you post links say masks and the shot work..hmm..

Everything you want explained is easily accessible, which leads me to believe you don’t really want it explained.

before you respond, explain confirmation bias to me

Pretty shocking coming from someone as obviously intelligent as AR.

This has to be the absolute worst punch in the gut for Rodgers.  Being called "dumb" by a superstar as esteemed and intellectual as Jabbar is the ultimate embarrassment.

BTW:  Really like and respect Jabbar, but had Bob Lanier not been hurt, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies would have beaten Jacksonville and UCLA back in the the 1970 Final Four.

I love that Kareem slapped down Rodgers. He has the credibility and respect of just about everyone unlike some of the talking heads in the media.

I also think it’s interesting to note that until recently he tried very hard to cultivate this common man, down to earth, I’m one of the people to appeal to the fan base especially in this part of the world (NE Wisconsin).  He has failed miserably in that regard and for all of his own flaws he’ll never be endeared like Favre.   That hippy free spirit intellectual shit may work in Cali, but not so much in middle America.  He can grow his hair out and appear on McAfee all he wants, but in the end he will never be viewed on the same level as Starr or Favre. Those two guys were much more genuine and relatable than Rodgers will ever be.

Still, people forgive and forget quickly and will likely get over his bullshit in a hurry if he returns and continues to play at a high level.

Maybe so, although Kareem had already graduated and moved onto our Milwaukee Bucks.

I’ll never forget Sidney Wicks posterizing Artis Gilmore in that Final Four

This is the problem with Americans.  We lack the ability to understand basic math and statistics.  I'm sure if 100% of Germans were vaccinated the idiots would come out of the woodwork and say "100% of hospitalizations are vaccinated people, see they don't work!" as if they were saying something profound.

You servedâ€Ķgreat, my son is joining the marines next spring..but am I supposed to bow down to you now and because you spew out some invective in order to shut me down, that makes you better than everyone?

And I had covidâ€Ķit was like having the flu..and ask your daughters about Gavin Newsom’s condition.

Be well and calm down..

Your kid gonna fight all of the mandatory vaccinations that the Marines require?  He's probably checking with Rogan on his options as we speak.

Your COVID was like the flu - I hope you realize how lucky you are.  But I doubt it.

In the very first sentence, the AP talks about the “pandemic of the unvaccinated” in Germany.  That's what we probably need to start calling it, the pandemic of the unvaccinated to make it clear what the true issue is.

Steve can talk in circles and try to convince himself he's being rational, but the reality is he isn't able to emotionally accept information that contradicts his beliefs and it is a false equivalence to say that people getting the shot are doing the same thing.  He's simply being a 5 year old who throws a tantrum when he has to do his chores or take his medicine.  Autonomy above reason and individual over community.

Didn't he take his advice from his doctors?

People may not like his decision, but from what I understand, he did consult his doctor(s)/medical team. I know there's been speculation his "doctor" is not an MD, but I haven't heard this reported as fact. Maybe I missed it. Not really paying attention to this "drama" other than reading this thread.  I'm pretty much Covided out.

It's very unlikely he consulted with any doctors with expertise specializing in infectious disease. The comment about the concerns about the side effects with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine makes him sound really poorly informed. There is a really rare risk of blood clots, but it is mostly in women under 50. Also, if he has some genetic susceptibility to abnormal clotting, the last thing he should be doing is playing a violent contact sport.

He could have just said he was not going to talk about his medical treatment and left it at that. He had that right. The problem was that he doesn't want anyone to think he's not the smartest guy in the room, so he had to do the MacAfee interview. He sort of blew the whole medical privacy thing out the window when he decided to cite he was receiving advice from Joe Rogan. If he was getting advice from a legitimate infectious disease specialist (or a team of specialists) on this, there is absolutely nothing preventing Rodgers from identifying exactly who that is. NFL teams and players announce all the time who is doing knee, arm, and other orthopedic surgeries. Most good physicians do not get upset if you get multiple opinions on treatment options and they are usually are happy to debate the plusses and minuses of any treatment plan. So, I doubt the physician is begging him to keep this treatment plan a secret.

Pretty sure if Joe Rogan was a MD he would want to be called Joe Rogan, MD.

Joe Rogan cannot write prescriptions moron.   As much as you want it to be true so it fits your narrative, he got a prescription of a pill, not paste, from a licensed provider.   If you don't like that, write a letter to whatever board issued the license to the medical care provider.

The fact that I need to explain this to you is pathetic.

Here is my short and simple breakdown.

1 - He opted out of the vax.   His reasoning should not matter to others at such a high level that he has all this hate directed at him.     You can disagree with another human and still respect them.   I know CNN and FOX don't want you to think that is possible, but it is.

2 - He mislead the media and fans.   We can only speculate why but the obvious options are he didn't want to distract from the team or he wanted to keep his medical choices private.   I respect both of those paradigms because it's simply NONE OF MY FUCKING BUSINESS.

3 - Since his medical choices now became public info and the distraction to the team had occurred, he went on record with why he opted out.    Again, back to bullet point 1, you can disagree with a person and still not hate them.   If you are pissed that he is spreading info you deem false, then YOU should not have created the environment where his medical choices are sought after information.

I loved Bob Lanier and his snub from the top 75 list they just put out is one of he biggest. But even before the knee injuries he was not in Kareem's class. That doesn't mean he wasn't great, just that Kareem has become underrated because of recency bias. Most people remember Kareem as the 40 year-old guy that jogged up and down the floor for the mid-80s Lakers' teams, stood on the block, and shot a sky hook. He was still a superstar even in that capacity. He was the NBA FInals MVP at the age of 37 when he averaged 25 and 9 while being guarded by Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. He averaged 22 and 8 at the age of 39, and was still playing big minutes in the Finals at 40.

But 15 years before that, Kareem was a guy that ran the floor and handled the ball like Giannis, averaged 35/17/5 a game, was a dominant shot-blocker, and had a high-level of basketball intelligence. On top of all that, he had the most unblockable post-move in NBA history. Imagine Giannis with the sky hook. With the rules about not being able to beat the crap out of guys anymore (which was really the only defense against Kareem), Kareem would have been unstoppable on offense and he was quick enough not to be completely embarrassed guarding stretch 4s at the 3-point line.

Other than Bill Russell, Kareem was also one of the biggest "winners'  of all time. He has 6 NBA title rings. He was considered the best high school player of all time with his team winning the equivalent of two high school "national titles" and being runner up the other year. They were 79-2.

He should still be considered the greatest college player in history. Freshman couldn't play back then, but the UCLA freshman team blew out the varsity in a scrimmage that year (the varsity ended up 2nd in the country). The three years he played, UCLA went 88-2 and won 3 national titles. The two losses were both by 2 points. One was to Elvin Hayes' Houston team in a game that Kareem (Lew Alcindor) was coming back from an eye injury (later in the year, they blew out Houston 101-69).  The other was to USC when they held the ball for large parts of the game.

Since you're big on co-morbitity you need to start an active campaign against the American diet.  Tell me how you fare against what could only be considered the largest cartel on the face of the planet.

See dumdum, you are an entity meant to consume.  That's your value in American society.  The cheaper the better.

Ever hear of food deserts?  How about the fact you can stuff a shopping cart full of garbage food and still pay less to eat healthy?  Now add in 40 years of wage stagnation and shit healthcare, to name a few, and tell me exactly how easy it is for poorer people to have the same diet as rich turds like Rodgers.  They would've been luckier to be poor in the country where they have the space and likely the know how to grow their own food.

And here I've been criticized for saying people who choose not to get vaccinated to the point of actively spreading it don't deserve the same medical care and to fuck off and die.  A couple of shots of a vaccine treatment and they're good.  Instead they are pushing the medical system to the limit literally causing life and death decisions for people with a real need for medical treatment.

You should find out who the majority of ICU patients are right now?  The unvaccinated or people with co-morbidities who are vaccinated.

You think those with co-morbidities who actually get vaccinated aren't being responsible?  Surely you aren't suggesting they deserve to die?  Oh wait, you also believe old people need to die as from your previous post.

So people who actively fight against an easy solution vs. people who just happen to be old or infirm.  Got it.

Okay, get out there!  Go fight the American food industry!  Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

Here's mine.

1) It's a virus causing a global pandemic.

2) There's now a solution for the global pandemic, a very common solution.

3) I want the pandemic to be over so the entire world can recover and I can do the shit I've been planning for two years.

Zero respect for excuse making bullshit.  I would've been just fine with him saying he didn't want the circus and privacy, whatever.  Instead he made a fucking victim special out of it.  I think he's a dick for not getting vaccinated but I think he's complete garbage for turning it into an anti-vaxxer victim greatest hits.

He's a liar on a scale that matters not only to global health but to his responsibilities to the team regardless of his defenders.

Your COVID was like the flu - I hope you realize how lucky you are.  But I doubt it.

I work for the military and the members of the military have very limited options now that the vax is mandatory for them.  Only in very limited cases can they   protest the COVID vaccine if they had not protested the 500 other shots they have to get.  If they refuse it the punishment can be up to a bad conduct discharge depending on the circumstances.  They could do all the research they want on the vax and COVID and it won't matter once the military slams them.

As for Rodgers, I am very hard core pro Vax but at the same time if someone makes a personal  choice I say go ahead but be prepared for the flak and blow back you are going to get especially when you lie.  You are the face of the team and the leader so I think you need to be smarter.

I know very little about the Vaccine itself but in my small world we are almost year in to the shot I think we pretty much know that people aren't growing a third head and having severe side effects.

1 - Yes, and this 1 mans choice has so little impact that it's not even measurable.  Before you go "he's a role model" on me, that's a cultural problem, not a Arron Rodgers problem.   He wasn't pushing his beliefs until he was pushed into a corner by people one would assume are your clan based on your responses in this thread .   Don't hate the player, hate the game.

2 - Meh, debatable.   It certainly reduces risk but it sure doesn't end the situation.

3 - The entire world can recover if we force our politicians to stop holding it back. Shutdowns and restrictions are not unavoidable.   They are a choice, a choice our politicians imposed on us.    That's a fucking fact homie.   Covid is not a hurricane that wiped out distribution centers and ports.    WE CHOSE TO CLOSE THEM. We went broad brush, still are,  when precision tools were / are a possibility.

"Your COVID was like the flu - I hope you realize how lucky you are.  But I doubt it."

Well since the death rate is like 1%  I would say he isn't that lucky, just one of the extremely vast majority.  (Hint, it's 99%)   Math is science, so I'm following the science here while determining his luck.

Either follow the fucking science or shut the fuck up with your conjecture.  You can't have it both ways.    Yes, given the number of cases, the number of deaths is "too damn high."    But this is a different argument and you seem to not understand it.
