Round 3 Pick 94 TE Josiah Deguara

With Kraft, Musgrave, Sims, and possibly Davis in camp next season Deguara has no chance of making the final 53. This is the last year of his rookie deal so that's no question on this being his last year. Someone out there will give him a shot and he will toil on some practice squad for a year or two before he's officially done.

If DeGuara wasn't a 3rd round pick by the current GM/coach, he wouldn't be on this team anymore. The fact he might be the most productive 3rd round pick of the 7 players Gutey has picked in that round since he's been the GM is beyond unbelievable.

I think was more a case of running out of warm bodies. People didn't like Davis either but when he got hurt the Packers had to go out and get Sims.

Always love going back to see my initial thoughts on draft picks.  I'm usually much more optimistic on Packers draft picks but I s**t all over this one from the get go and was right on.  Just a miss all around.  No idea what Gute saw in him. 

Bright side of this trainwreck of a pick - no one of note was picked in the next 50 spots.  This was a pretty weak draft after the first 50ish picks.

Looks like the Degaura era is over & after seeing Kraft make 1 more play yesterday than Degaura has made in his 4 years in GB that is a good thing.

Musgrave caught 4 of 6 targets for 28 yards with a long of 11. He also threw one of the blocks that sprung Reed on a 32-yard touchdown run. Kraft caught both of his targets for 32 yards with a long of 27.  Indeed, I had to watch the replay to believe that it wasn't Musgrave tip-toeing down the sideline on the big 27-yard gain. Sims had no statistics. Degaura's role on this team seems to have dwindled down just to special teams.

Deguara was supposed to be our answer to Kyle Juszczyck...HB/FB hybrid...bad pick.

Juice was a bad pick for the Ravens, and the 49ers got him off the scrap heap and were able to use his skills. Bad job of the Packers scouting Deguara...square peg, round hole.

Never understood the pick. He was projected as a 6th round pick who we took in the 3rd round. Didn't show great athleticism at the combine, not sure what we saw in him.

Biggest issue with the pick was that you can find good FBs on the scrap heap, just like Kuhn and Juszczyck. Unlike other positions, only a few teams really use a FB so you're not competing with the majority of the league for these guys, which is why using a 3rd round pick was so head scratching. 

Felt like drafting Love, Dillon, and Deguara was meant to move this team into more of a run first offense. Safe to say it didn't work.

As I recall, they were enamored of his hustle on that long return where he chased down a guy after everyone else gave up and tackled him short of the goalline.

Ridiculous reason to overlook the lack of athleticism.

His other career highlight was his first block pancaking a guy in the Viking opener.

Someone will give him a vet minimum contract no doubt.

Falling in love with a player based on "hustle," on a play or three is really dumb, and something the Packers under TT and "Trust the Process" Gutey were/are supposed to be immune from.

They sure as fuck used their "process," to pass on Creed Humphrey for Josh Myers...because he had small hands...but it failed them wildly on guys like Deguara, Amari Rodgers, Oren Burks, ad nauseum.

So, is he still a Packer or did they send him packing?

Not sure I buy that one. I think Gutey liked his "metrics," and made the pick on those.

Of course Lindsey would like a fellow Buckeye...if that's what convinced Gutey he should be removed as AD today. Not buying it.

I have no doubt you read it somewhere and were just repeating it...not shooting the messenger...just saying it doesn't sound plausible. But IF it did happen, it's a bad look for an NFL GM IF it was a factor in his decision.
