He's a gadget guy.  At best he is a complimentary aspect to this upcoming season, hopefully on ST.  He's not stepping in for Cobb because he doesn't have Cobb's acumen in the offense and overall football knowledge.  I have no doubt MM will work in a couple plays with him in mind but they aren't building an offense for him.

His target is ST this year.

IMO TM has the 4th WR spot nailed down.  He already is a highlight show everyday in TC.  NFL game experience is all he needs - and maybe a little of that ability to read AR's mind - but that come with experience too.  Janis is not doing bad, but I think he will take a little longer.  It is a much bigger step from SSU to the NFL.  The Packer offense is just a lot more complex and route running is a lot different.  I would bet Janis SSU play book is no thicker than a comic book.

Cobb's first season: 25 catches, 375 yards, 1 TD in the offense. That was with Jennings, Driver, Finley, Nelson, and little running game. Cobb emerged in the offense when Jennings was hurt and Driver declined further.

Monty will get some chances- he's proving he should get that at this stage. But once the real bullets fly, the big 3 plus Lacy and whichever TE emerged a most reliable will get the majority of the opportunity.

It would not surprise me if TM played returner only until the playoffs when they unveil a few things defenses won't be expecting.  I would not mind the Packers going 5 wide at times this year because over loading the secondary and getting the ball into the hands of any of Nelson, Cobb, Adams, TM, or Janis could be lethal.  I know it would have to be a quicker pass, but just saying - that is a lot of speed (of the good kind) out there.

From almost day 1 AR said Cobb was a star waiting to happen.  A QB running routes recognizing weak spots in the D waiting to be exploited.

Cobb's football IQ is off the charts. His route and catch with 7 seconds left before half leading to Crosby's FG against Dallas in the playoffs was silly.

I think Cobb knew playing football anywhere other than GB would have driven him crazy. Not having a QB that rewarded his smarts.

This is going to be a big game for Ty. I hope he takes one or two to the house on returns. I can't wait to see that happen.

Conversely, our STs are going to have to be lights out on coverage. Tyler Lockett is averaging 28 on KR with a 35 long, and 31 on PR with a 57 long and 1 TD.

Montgomery averaged 35.3 on KR with a long of 46. There were no PRs against CHI.

Not to mention his KO return skills. I'd like to see a couple jet sweeps too.

What did he average vs. the Bears? Like 40 yards a return?

You'll notice most teams now are kicking the ball out of the back of the EZ so he doesn't even have an opportunity.

The last thing other teams want to do is allow the Packers a ST's TD

I was thinking the same thing, with us having trouble vs. press coverage I would have thought this would have been a way to get he & Cobb loose.

Yeah, Cobb in particular is good running routes out of the backfield. Hell, put Janis on the field as a wide out Trojan Horse. Who cares if he runs the wrong route--just don't throw it to him. Have him run fly routes all day long just to distract the safety.

Update on Ty.

"Honestly I haven't had any problems with it since the surgery. I've been doing everything I've been asked to do. I feel really good, I don't have any problems or concerns."

All that's left now is to wait and try to avoid constantly being asked about the injury so he can move on.

I hope, therefore I imbibe.

If that is all it takes to injure his ankle, he is glass in a heard of bulls.  Trade him now while he still can be viewed as potentially good.  Better yet, sign the reporters.  We need ILBs that can rough people up.

2015 is an interesting draft. Every player from that draft except for Christian Ringo made the final roster I believe. It looks like Ringo will be in the mix for a backup role this year, so its conceivable this draft could get contributions from all 8 picks...including potentially 4 starters (Randall, Rollins, Ryan, Ripkowski), 2 primary backups (Monty, Hundley), and 2 contributors (Ringo, Backman). Then you throw in UDFA's like Crockett, Rotheram, and Gunter who may contribute down the road. Ringo and Backman will be projects that may have some ability to contribute down the road  That's crazy to get so much out of 1 draft.

More like mental cock tease... no release.

Another vote in the Never Adams movement.

I grant you it’s easy to see Abbrederis, or Adams, or even Janis not making the team.

All things being equal health-wise, here's the 6/7 I'd go with in order at WR.

Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery, Abbrederis, Davis, Janis.

Last year's TC intriguing option Ed Williams is lurking too.

Montgomery if healthy is on the 53, or he's PUP'd. No way he ends up in MIN.

in order at WR

LBs, TEs, RBs, DBs can all contribute on ST too. Best 53.

Let's remember, this was the WR crew for last years initial 53. Cobb, Adams, Monty, Janis, & White. They released White to make room for Jones.

"We're just going to take it day by day," Montgomery said. "So far, all signs lead to we feel confident to just take it day by day and play this week. So we'll see."

So, they feel confident to take it day by day?

I coached a player years ago who always fatigued easily. His senior year he began having blood in his urine, went into hospital where he was diagnosed with sickle cell trait. We met with the doctor who stated that his symptoms only became active when he was in oxygen deprivation (intense exercise). He allowed him to continue playing with some restrictions, such as only being able to play 4 minutes at a time, etc. I think there can be other symptoms which vary some with those with the trait.

That statement was made in October of 2015 and is a little prophetic in nature.  TM has been successful out of the backfield this year.  I hope he keeps it up.

Did you hear that Ty can sing "Day by Day" but only in the backfield for 4 minutes at a time until Cary Grant hits him with a tomahawk to fix his sick cells?  It's true.
