Bak is a great dude and a beast at LT when healthy... the timing isn't right though.  Take the lumps and trade him to a true contender.  He shouldn't be on the roster in GB this year at all.

I believe there's cap acceleration that makes it really difficult for us to trade him this year.

I don't have a problem with him playing when his knee allows, just don't make a mess out of it. Let MLF know you're out before your backup and don't complain about a media feeding frenzy when you're chumming the waters for it with your brother and your silence. He's smart enough and been around long enough to know how this all works. Act like a pro and don't create a distraction for a young team.

IMO, this is another GB lifer taking for granted how well he's been treated here. More NFL organizations than not would ride his ass to get out there until he was used up.

Lots an amateur clairvoyants posting in this here thread. And a bunch of wannabe sports psychologists, too. Oh, and I may have mentioned this already, but a lot of dumb posted on the last several pages.

He was listed as Questionable - they tested the knee on GameDay and he couldn't go. So he's out. Nothing nefarious going on.

When the line flipped on Thursday or Friday from Packers -2 to ATL -1.5, I think the people "in the know".....knew

It would be nice to see 69 schooling Aidan Hutchinson. That would be a helluva battle.

Another point I've been thinking about this week, give 69 more rest on Sunday so he's ready to go on Thursday. Lions game looms large this year.

If the doctors haven't told him already, he will have lasting consequences on that knee. There's no doubt that the wear and tear of football, plus the several surgeries, have that knee f***ed up for the rest of his life. No one walks away from the NFL scot-free; they all have consequences for playing this brutal game for the many years they have played.

I kind of expect him to retire after this year. He's put it out there that he'd stop if a doctor told him he'd have consequences, and he's really past that point. And it totally sucks that he's one of the best in the business, but even he implied that he's playing on one leg.

If the medical staff tested him out and shut him down I don't recall that being reported or stated.  If he was cleared by the medical staff and felt uncomfortable on it and shut himself down (totally his right). I've not seen reporting  or statements confirming that either.

If you're not interested in speculation and opinion, what the fuck are you doing here?  Are you lost?

The stat sheet is over there, this is where you find speculation and opinion.

I don’t understand the Bahk hate. He has given his all for 10 years. Became an all-pro as a 4th round draft pick. Suffered a horrendous injury and continues to try to play - and when able to play stones everyone.  He spent 20 minutes this week with reporters explaining his frustration with the knee, expressing his love for Green Bay, and desire to win.  I don’t begrudge him his money - he’s earned it and I for one appreciate him.

How about putting as much time in rehab as he does chugging beers?

Bak has become Aaron Rodgers on a Packers team that completely divorced themselves from Aaron Rodgers.

It’s sort of sad but it isn’t.

For the last time, these guys chose this life.  This profession. Just like politicians and celebrities I don’t need or want to hear you whine about media coverage or how bad you have it.

Walk away.  No one is holding a gun to your head.

Oh you want to play?  Then do it.  Quit talking about it and trying to be an attention whore.  And tell your family members and other handlers to fuck off.

69 is one of the all time greats but right now I view Mark Tauscher in higher regard in his Packers career than Bak because normally OL don’t act like divas.  Well done Bak.

Tausch having only played for WI teams his entire career will always put him in very high regard.

I don’t think he’s being a diva. I think he’s frustrated because his knee never healed 100% and he realizes that it likely never will.

Sure he could walk away, but when his knee cooperates and he’s able to play, he’s the best tackle in the league.

It sucks for everybody….except opposing teams.

He isn't going to walk away from the paycheck.

He’s done a good job marketing himself up until lately.   He’s taking it too far now with his shenanigans in Chicago,  strange social media, and anger at reporters.

If he never plays again, is he a Packer HOF member? I’d say yes, he was as good as Clifton and Tauscher.    I’d take Clifton and how he handled himself over Bahk though.

I don't know about "all rong," but IMO Bakh has a lot of things to think about that have to weigh heavy on him. His knee and the problems it's giving him. The possible end of his career even though he's still a top LT. He's the oldest guy on the team, with more young guys than ever before. The lack of practice. The feeling of being on the outside as everyone prepares to play and he can't go.  Not being able to compete when pro athletes are wired to play. Rodgers' leaving and the team obviously so much behind Love. Bakh has physical issues, but he also has to have a lot on his mind as well.

From a pure pass blocking standpoint Bak is a first ballot HOF.  I’m not taking GBP HOF.  The guy is the best I’ve seen in my lifetime playing LT for the Packers and they’ve had some good ones over the last 50 years.

No question he’s frustrated with how his knee has responded post ACL.  I mean, a lot of guys never come back from that injury.  Robert Brooks, Craig Newsome, etc.

Still, we can do without all of the media nonsense because all it does is create distractions for a team that doesn’t need them.

I have a sense that deep down he knows he’d rather be with his boys in New York but that’s the way things go in the NFL.  Nothing lasts forever.

@AndyHermanNFL:   Bakhtiari will be on IR through the October 31st trade deadline and as mentioned yesterday there’s nobody that’s trading any capital for him and he’s not passing a physical. Please put that to rest forever and ever amen.

As mentioned yesterday; there’s beyond zero advantage to releasing him. So please stop with that, too.

He’s on IR. He’s not taking up a roster spot. They don’t save any money this year if he’s cut or if he retires. If he can play; they’ll take him off IR. If he can’t then they won’t.

Then, there will be three options in the offseason:

1. Retire
2. Release
3. Restructure

In any of the 3 situations his $19 mil bonus will still count against the cap in 2024. In all 3 situations his $21.5 million salary will come off the books/cap. In the restructure version he’d get whatever they agreed upon with the new contract, likely a minimum deal with incentives.

Don't think restructure can happen - 2024 is the last year of his deal.  Bakh would have to agree to add years to his current deal to then restructure and I'm not sure he'd do that.  Besides, we're in a youth movement so may as well take the cap hit next season and move on.  If he was healthy it'd be a different conversation but gotta face reality.

I think Bakh will think long and hard about what he wants his life to be like long after football. Just doing normal activities of daily life, hitting up the golf course etc and running around after his kids and maybe grandkids one day I am sure is on his mind.

Is it really worth putting his knee, which is likely to be a chronic problem barring a knee replacement, through all this?

I am deeply appreciative of all of those years protecting 12 and being a great Packer. It sucks that he can't walk away from this game on the terms he wants to, but very few players get that luxury.

If Bakh weren't a pro football player, a man his height and weight...granted he'd probably not carry 300+ lbs, was probably going to have knee issues anyway based on his physiology...adding football makes it worse. Most pro ball players come to that conclusion...not just football.

The good news is, advances, specifically in the area of stem cells, are really changing the way people can recover from years of a abuse. A colleague of mine was looking at a triple spinal fusion a couple of years ago. He wanted to avoid the knife and researched stem cell therapies, and found a place in Mexico (since the FDA hasn't approved stem cell therapy for spinal issues). Cost him $15,000 out of pocket and  8 trips to Tijuana, but his spine has regenerated enough that he is pain free and surgery is now off the table. It's not a miracle cure, but for the right candidates it can be a game-changer.
