Yeah, but he was black.
That's got to be a Guinness record. 16 years without jumping?
Pretty sure he wasn't allowed to jump without first filing an environmental impact statement.
Seems like it is using one leg exclusively, with no help from the added momentum you get from jumping with the other leg.
Literally (not figuratively) half-assed!
Canβt wait for the JSO article on this. You know itβs coming.
Didn't Reggie Roby punt without jumping for 16 years?
And he died at 43.
I think Roby also timed his own hand time. He wore a wrist watch during games and I think he hit the start button on the timer right after he kicked the ball.
There is a "more hand time" joke in there but I am taking the high road
Pellet grillin', emergency Cialis, and hand time.
'Murica!
I read that Scott dropped 40.9 percent of his 188 career punts inside the 20-yard line. He also made nine extra points and a 48-yard field goal.
EQ could take him.
Thunderbird posted:BrainDed posted:I don't trust a punter who doesn't jump when punting. He's clearly half assing it with that lazy approach.
I was thinking he might be more prone to a serious injury if he ever gets his plant leg rolled on. Hopefully that won't be an issue for the future HOFer
Maybe will get more running into the kicker calls because he won't be jumping over players at his feet? To take a shot at your question, I would guess he would be more prone to getting that ankle injured.
Punter mechanics are great off season material.
I agree and think Henry should change the name.
Now punting for Green Bay: Opie McHalf-ass !
So he had a very good punt average by punting wrong. Got it!
Absolutely not dude I have no idea what's the right or wrong way. I don't think there is one. That's why I said "seems like" and waiting to hear more about it.
You have to admit it's unusual. Someone's going to ask him. For all I know everyone else is doing it wrong or taking the easy way. Seems like you definitely have more control by not jumping as far as placing it inside the 20, which he excels at. Either way there is no doubt the style works for him. It's just very, very rare.
The half-ass part is a joke.
Well wouldn't you know it, Ray Guy has a number of instructional punting videos out there. Ones that discuss alignment, the drop, timing etc.. They're all on Youtube.
This is the only one where he discusses the end of the punt, which he calls "the follow through." He implies you should in fact jump when he says that after the punt, your momentum should carry you forward. As stated by the narrator: "The plant foot should return to the ground slightly ahead of where it lifted off."

Damn you Gute I'm changing my draft grade from an A to an F!
^^^(*Note: the rolling laughing head thingy hereby denotes a lack of gravity.)
You know they'll get that corrected in camp...and totally mess him up.
Now let's see him do it in cold weather.
"could" would be the key word.
Go Whizburgler Go!
Don't punt.
I've actually entertained this thought to myself in the past. Given Rodgers superhuman, Favre-like ability I've wanted to look up the stats on going for every 4th down outside our own 35.
I envision a Montgomery running play every time.
Until the 3rd play when he limps off.
Racist.
I never saw Janis! limping, just sayn'.
Janis could outrun pain.
But couldn't catch a cold.
Cuz he ran the rong route.
Hey.
He made us forget Barty Smith.
But not Barry Smith.
You're thinking Bee Gees now aren't you old man?
More like Bachman Turner Overdrive. Or better yet, Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds.
In the old days, I don't think anyone jumped when punting. I believe Jerrel Wilson of the Chiefs was the first to do it. I remember Curt Gowdy and Al DiRogatis commenting on that during the NBC 4:00 Chiefs/Raiders bloodbaths.

JK Scott in '18
- 20th in yards per punt (45)
- 25th in net (39)
- T-23rd punts inside 20 (18)
- Most touchbacks in the NFL (8)
Justin Vogel in '17
- 23rd in yards per punt (44.4)
- 7th in net (41.6)
- T-29 punts inside 20 (19)
- Second-fewest touchbacks (2)
Way too early to make a call on the pick, but he's been underwhelming so far.
He's been inconsistent at times, but the coverage has been terrible.
Question is how much of the coverage issues is a result of Scott's punting? I'd give him most of the blame on Cohen's long return Sunday.

Scott hasn't been bad, but he's not Shane Lechler or Andy Lee level good. You can find guys like Scott on the street every year before training camp. It would have been better to use that 5th round pick on an OL to see if they might have gotten some depth there.
Shocked. Welcome to the pros Opie.
The only thing I'll say is Vogel probably hit his ceiling. Opie may have a bit more but not worth the pick (LB, OL, anything).
