I know this would never happen, and I'm not sure if the NFLPA allows it, but could you imagine if AR said to the Packers, "I want "x" input on players and coaching staff and in return I'll sign a 4 year contract for the league minimum."

That would make his salary roughly 1.2 million/year based on years of service.  With that much salary cap relief, the Packers could sign DA and just about anyone else AR wants. At least on paper it would make the Packers one of the favorites for the Super Bowl every year.

"According to Spotrac, Rodgers has managed to earn as much as 220 million dollars throughout his career as a professional NFL player, with Forbes estimating his income from endorsements to be nine million dollars per year."

Now, the idea of saying with all that money why do you need to make more, is complete trash.  No matter how much money you make, you always would prefer to make more.  That's human nature.  However, imagine how much he would make in endorsements.  He'd not only be in/winning Super Bowls * but would be the guy who gave up millions because he's all about winning/team.

Like I said, not going to happen but it's a fun daydream to have.

*assuming good luck with injuries etc

Indeed
From what I've read - The Packers are on the hook for a minimum of $ 20 M next year for Rodgers, even if he follows your plan. That being said - I think its a valid point because what Rodgers truly values is his Legacy - more than mo' money.

So on some level, him taking less $$ gets him what he truly desires - which is more titles and finishing his career in GB. In that regard, the decision is all his.

It hasn't been done before; even that knobshiner Brady took full $$ - he just shuffled it around enough for the ball-lickers to call it a "discount".
( Andrew Brandt laughed at the absurdity of it)

Money isn't the rare commodity anymore, winning is. So Rodgers can use his money to "buy" more time on his preferred team.

Its also in his best interest to stay in GB where he has a top coach, a killer OL and a GM who is willing to work with him. He invested heavily in getting a seat at the table and now he has that in GB. Little reason for him to learn a new offense, gain trust in new WRs and start over in another city.

We'll see what AR truly values soon enough, but if we place any credence in his legacy comments - then taking a smaller deal will be a part of him finishing in Titletown.

Some players still tie their worth to their paycheck ( D. Adams said as much during negotiations) But if you are a 3 -4 time MVP, you can move beyond the dick-measuring component of contracts and get what you really want - which is more winning and more Titles.

Should be an interesting couple of months - and you can bet that the media masturbaters are all greased up and ready to go on this upcoming deal.

I want to believe he stays... and plays for less. And there are cogent arguments for that option. But that's mostly just irrational exuberance on my part

It's time for an honest conversation.  Gute needs to tell him, we want you and all your boys, but there is only so much bread.   If you are willing to give a large portion of your share, we will be able to bring back Adam and Cobb.   Lewis is signed for 2022 already.   Bahk and Jones are signed long term.     All your homies Aaron, just spread the wealth and it all works out.

IMO, the time for the conversation is not yet ripe.

If GB wins the SB, all bets are off.

Conversely, if the Packer defense gives up 30+ points in yet another playoff loss before reaching the SB, I could see ARod' responding to such an honest conversation with Gute going as follows:

Gee thanks for speaking with me so honestly Gute. Appreciate it.

Now, you are telling me Gute that I need to give up $ that I would be paid elsewhere so we can run it back in GB with some of but not all of my buds, but at the same time there won't be any $ for some of the key guys who helped us get to the NFC (Divisional/Championship) round of the playoffs in 2022 and there won't be any $ to add any players to next season's roster either because the Pack is up against the cap.

Got it.

Let me ask you Gute, if after 11 seasons and 4 MVPs without getting to a single SB in Green Bay, you could go to Denver, with Cobby and Davante and a host of other potential FAs because the Broncos have $55M of cap space, and you could still get paid your $ in full, and you would get to play with a top 10 ranked scoring D for the first time since 2010 (the Broncos ranked 4th in 2021), what exactly would be your incentive to run it back with the Pack in 2022?

$? Nope. Chance to play in a SB. Not bloody likely. Nostalgia?

Hope that the Packer organization finally gets it right on the defensive side of the ball by adding yet another 1st round pick to the D?

The opportunity to go sledding on the neat new hill?

PS Gute, did I happen to mention where my fiancee' is from? It ain't Ashwaubenon.

PSS Isn't year 3 the ideal time for you to see what your 2019 1st and 4th round picks can really do on the field Gute?

Now, call your boy George Paton and tell him that ARod is ready to join Coach Hackett (or Getsy).

Addendum to the conversation: If the #1 goal is to win a SB, I don't think it makes much sense for either ARod or the Green Bay Packers for ARod to return to GB in 2022 with an undoubtdly depleted roster.

Things Rodgers as said in the past 2-3 weeks.

ā€œThe grass is greener where you water it.ā€

"The organization and I, the conversations we've had, we're in a way different place than we've ever been & I'm really appreciative of Brian, him & I coming together & finding common grounds & having great conversations."

ā€œIt wonā€™t be something where Iā€™ll drag it out for months and months. ā€¦ Iā€™m not going to hold the team back from anything, and once I commit ā€” and if itā€™s committing to move forward here ā€” it will be a quick decision.ā€

ā€œWanting to not be a bum on the way out and to still be able to play, I think, is important to me. If this year has taught me anything, itā€™s that I still can play, I still have a love for the game, Iā€™m still super competitive and still enjoy the process of the week. I miss practice and itā€™s tough to not be out there week after week now, but I still do love competing and I love being out there.ā€

Cobb, Adams, Bahktiari, Lewis, and a few others are compelling reasons for him to stay in GB.

One thing I know for sure.  Get ready for the billion unnamed sources the media pundits will report as fact as to what AR is going to do.  It's going to be the biggest click bait fest the sportsworld has ever seen.   I remember when it was "imminent" that AR was being traded to Denver.  LOL.  The media are a bunch of prostitutes, not to be taken seriously anymore.

Any thoughts on what GB could realistically get in a trade for 12?  I think GB is in a tough spot.  I've seen posts where multiple #1 picks and even a few players would be coming GB's way.  Something tells me that may not be happening.

That was never going to happen.  A few good picks, absolutely.  A bevy of players as well, no.

Hey fellers. I will be honest. I'm actually expecting the packers to make a rare 'joint offer' to Aaron and DeVante. 'Hey guys, this is what we can do'. George is obviously correct about Aaron's contract situation. And also correct that you cannot have him play under that one year remaining cap number. I know people talk about the tag for Adams. But, let's be real. If Aaron is not here, Adams will be beyond pissed if he is here. And there is not a lot of reason to have a very pissed off Adams with no Rodgers.

A 38 year old drama queen looking to be paid 30-40M that has proven multiple times to come up small when it matters most is not going to bring the haul that many are assuming

I think theyā€™ll get multiple picks. Iā€™d be shocked if they get more than one 1st rounder amongst those multiple picks.

I would have thought the same before the Stafford trade last offseason. If he wants out, someone will be willing to pay big time. The important thing will be whether they can get multiple teams interested.

Yup it only takes one team.  Question will there be one team he wants to go to?  The agreement with the FO was that he could decide where (within reason).  Miami has by far the most cap space ($67m) and would probably die for AR, but AR isn't going there.

Broncos and Colts both have mid-$40m in cap space, Steelers $34m.  Broncos have the 9th pick, Steelers 20th, and the Colts don't have a 1st round pick this year so they're probably out.

So it probably comes down to the Broncos really, unless the Steelers really want him and frankly I don't see them going after AR.

Iā€™ll take 1st rounders in 23 and 24.   Nothing says it has to be in 22.

Take that and a 1st for Adams in 22.  You have 2 first rounders for the next 3 years.    If Love sucks, we will be top 5 in 23 in great spot to land a QB.  If not, we are rebuilding on the fly with a young QB that we just signed long term.

Packers could tag Adams, then trade AR and Adams together.  If so, I'd expect at least 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds.  Where?  Not sure.  Denver has been the top of many lists but I don't see their GM giving up this kind of capital for 2 maybe 3 years of Rodgers.  George Paton is too much like TT - a scout who values the draft.  This trade eliminates the 2023 and 2024 drafts and severely limits the 2025 draft.  I just don't see a "scout" doing that.

Other teams - New Orleans, Carolina, Cleveland, Houston, Indy, Vegas, NYG, Philly, Miami, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Washington.  I could see all of those teams pursuing a trade for Rodgers.  I don't think GB should take any input from Rodgers in a trade.  Tell him if he wants a trade, GB will pursue one but that he'll go to the team of GBs choice based on conference/division and trade compensation.
