“…..per sources.”

Wonder if MLF wanted Beckham enough to personally call him like McVay did? And I highly doubt OBJ would’ve taken “slightly more” from the Packers vet minimum offer compared to the Rams monster overpay. Think about, the Rams didn’t outbid GB.  They outbid themselves.

This is a non-story/non-issue.

So now the FO are fools because they didn't sign OBJ?
Every time some jerkwad FA is available (see Richard Sherman), people start humping air thinking the Packers HAVE to sign them. No other consideration of any associated costs, Green Bay needs them, period.
Methinks Jordan Schultz is a moran.

Go ahead and find that in any of my posts.

Let's clarify all of this for you homer dopes.  It isn't about signing OBJ or anyone else.  It's the overall ethos of this fucking FO, particularly Murphy.  Why the fuck did you even have a meeting with the guy if you were just going to throw out a shit contract?  Why did you fuck around with one of the best ST coaches in the league making sure he wouldn't come to Green Bay?  Why exactly did it take Rodgers making a fucking stink in the offseason for these fucks to act?  Does anyone honestly believe moves like the one for Mercilus happen otherwise?

The point is these assholes are the future and we got a taste of that future last Sunday.

What FA is going to want to come to Green Bay to be insulted when it's already hard enough to get FAs?  You think those FAs will be lining up to play with Jordan Love?

THAT is the fucking problem.  The Packers are Green Bay.  Omaha is a more dynamic city if Green Bay doesn't have the Packers.  Quit fucking winning division titles on the back of two HOF QBs to make your books look good and devote yourself to winning championships.  That is the entire reason for the existence of an NFL team in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

These FO assholes are true Americans.  Nothing will change and HOFer QBs will go on forever.

I'm sure FA will be a blast after Rodgers is gone and the FO lowballing every coach and player that comes along.

I get the frustration, especially over a certain ST coach.  That was just dumb.  In this case, however, I don't think OJB is worth more than the Packers (supposedly) offered him.  Not very productive the last few years, reportedly injured.

Then don't bring him in at all.  Don't actively create roadblocks in FA.  Don't give a fuck about OBJ.  I give a fuck about becoming the 1980's Packers again.

I wonder how many teams would take Sherman over Rasul Douglas today. Tampa Bay would throw  Gisselle into the deal to swap Sherman for Douglas.

They were probably trying to dazzle OBJ with all the sparklies at GB with the hopes he'd be bedazzled to the point of taking a low ball offer just to be there.  Figuring, hey if he takes it great, if he doesn't, no big deal.  If it's disrespectful in OBJ's eyes, it's only because the Rams offered a lot more.  I think it's a mistake on their part, but we'll see how it works out.  I have a feeling he'll remain relatively invisible there too, however.

Yep. Desperate franchise. What they have been doing the past couple of years is literally every Joe Six Pack's idea of going all in. They need to win a SB in the next year or two to justify the dark days that await this franchise.

I know there's a lot more pieces to this but they are all in on Matt Stafford being a SB winning QB. 0-3 postseason Matt Stafford. At least the Bucs went all in with a guy that has been there - many times.

Me too.  That was brutal.  That's what I'm most afraid of too whether Rodgers leaves next year or a few years down the line when he decides to hang 'em up - or is no longer able to play at or near the level he's playing now.  It's not easy to find a franchise QB, and teams go decades sometimes without finding one.  It doesn't help to have the clowns in the FO running the show.  I blame mostly Murphy and Ball.

Who knows, maybe Gutey's been trying to get more FA's in but Russ and Murphy have been holding it up, or forcing Gutey to accept their moronish ways.  Remember, Ball wanted Gutey's job and I think Murphy was going to pull the trigger but backed off when he received a lot of negative feedback. Gutey's shown to be a pretty good evaluator of talent.  It could have been the Ball/Murphy crew forcing Gutey to go after Love.  You never know, but I wouldn't ignore that possibility with the Ball/Murphy love affair, wanting the run the whole show.  I think the person of least blame is Gutey.  I could be wrong, but I have a gut feeling.

So did some of the players, Dr. Bob.  I still say he wasn't worth more than what he was offered.  Even if we had upped the ante a little, the Rams were clearly going for broke and we (and the coach) would have lost out anyway.  He is NOT worth nearly the money they offered him.

We'll see how the Rams and their fans feel after this year.  They've given away the farm in terms of draft picks in order to build this team, so they have almost no developing talent in the pipeline right now.

The Rams' talent on defense looks better than it really is because they have Aaron Donald. Jalen Ramsey is great, too, but Donald is what makes them a contender. He's the closest thing to Reggie White I've seen. A healthy JJ Watt was the only other guy that was near that level this century. Donald being dinged up for the Packers playoff game last year made a huge difference.

Their window requires Stafford to be a franchise QB and for Donald to stay healthy.

What I find interesting is the reportedly team based incentives.  So if OBJ plays great but the team does poorly in the regular season or playoffs he gets zilch or very little of the $3 million bonus.   Why would he sign on for that>?

Agreed.  At least the Bucs have mostly home grown talent on the team, and role players they didn't pay too much to get, or decided to take a chance on (AB).  They also have developing talent in the pipeline.  If Brady stays healthy, they still have a pretty decent window, unfortunately.  In my mind, it's a much smarter approach than the Rams are taking.  It will be interesting to watch, that's for sure.  In the past, it hasn't worked out very well for teams to give away a ton of draft picks.

And just to be clear, the issue is not that fans wanted him and the Packers low-balled him.  It's that the coach apparently wanted him and the Packers low-balled him.

Did he? Or was Twitter-er Jordan Shultz “told” MLF wanted Beckmann?  And what does that even mean -MLF “wanted” Beckham.

As far as the question of “Why even entertain him?”  Why not? Nobody claimed him on waivers. Make a minimum offer. Maybe the coach called. Maybe he didn’t. If it was leaked to GB the neighborhood of the Rams offer (which seems absurd, they were bidding against themselves), why even counter if it’s not even gonna come reasonably close?  So Beckham’s time was wasted. Boo hoo.

It would be a luxury to have him, not a necessity.

True, the Bucs have mostly home grown talent ... just like all 31 other teams including the Rams do.

False that the Bucs have not been ferocious procurers of veteran talent via trade and free agency from around the NFL -- See Suh, McClendon, Barrett, JPP, Cockrell, Sherman, Brady, Fournette, Bernard, A. Brown, Gronk, Jensen, Succop, and Pinion (among others).

Whether adding OBJ would have been a good move or not for the Green Bay Packers is certainly debatable.

But whether the Bucs non-homegrown QB, RB, TE, WR, and defensive linemen were/are critical to TB's success is not.

I wouldn't call it a luxury for a team that can't make it to the Super Bowl.  That in itself is pretty much the point.  So if the FO and Mayo thought OBJ was broke down, great.  Move on.

If Mayo thought he could contribute  and wanted the guy, not a luxury.

Given that OBJ has a damaged shoulder, and went 5-for-10 targets Sunday for 81 yards (including the 54-yard TD) and has only 37 catches since the start of last season (through yesterday), I'd say the right move was to not sign him. He now has a hip pointer from yesterday's game, and they did an MRI on his back for a deep contusion. (linkie).

I agree, Pikes. And right now we'd all be saying, "Thank goodness they didn't overpay."

Addition by subtraction.  We do need lizard to play ball tho, they probably thought 13 and 19 were in house and were at least as good.  They need to step up.

Called this in the game thread.
Amos hit him on his left side/back area a 1st qtr incompletion (his first target, I believe) and you could see the pain on his face as soon as it happened. I think he was actually considering whether to get up or wait on medical staff to come to him.
I had it figured as a rib (or ribs) injury, a transverse process fracture, or maybe a kidney contusion, but if they say hip pointer and back contusion....

Do the Murph pre-retirement celebrations begin later this season?

In 2023?

2024?

Or do we wait until closer to July 13, 2025, which is the official retirement date, to begin celebrating the finest executive the NFL has seen over the past two decades?

Given Murph's announced "plan on making the last three years as successful as possible, with multiple Super Bowl championships" likely coming to fruition, it is imperative that the organization separate out celebrating Murph on his own from the multiple SB wins that will be coming down the pike.

Passed over this development given most of my attention has been to the draft...but it seems like the gift that keeps on giving is playing tough-guy with the City of Green Bay. I...for one...am SHOCKED!!!
