Re: Positives and negatives
Yup, it's time for TT to start scouting other staffs for coaching candidates. I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with the name tossed out by Chickboy on the previous page: Josh McDaniel. He was an idot in his first head coaching gig, but my guess is he's learned a thing or two in New England. And guess who's the OC for the Pats' offense that just keeps rolling no matter who they plug-and-play? He's worth an interview. But no matter who, if TT can find a guy out in SF who led us to a...

Wait so a SB win won't make you stop and say "maybe this guy is good enough..."? I guess I don't understand that mindset. All I want is for GB to win as many SBs as possible, I don't care how it happens or how they get there. If they went 7-9 with the 32nd ranked defense, but they made the playoffs and won out, I would call it a successful season.

Re: Why We Won/Why the Vikings can still go ****.q themselves
Nobody disagrees with that. The problem is we've seen Capers piss away at least a couple of legit shots at the Superb Owl over the past few years. And Seattle, MM and that coaching staff will wear that tattoo till the end of time. And yes, talent supplied is part of the equation but the coaching breakdowns and the 4th quarter sit and quit are evident.

Like the 3rd down toss to Jennings in the Superb Owl, he puts it where only his guy can catch it. He sees things others don't. And, most importantly, he trusts what he sees and he trusts his ability. Contrast that to the throw Trubirsky didn't attempt.

Re: Queens @ Green Bay, oh and guess who’s QB for queens??? Bert Favor.
Ugh. Just watched most of Packers at Vikes (MNF Oct. 2009) and not sure why. That game was as butt ugly as butt ugly can be. Rodgers was sacked 8(!) times, 2 TOs, and 7 penalties. Offense produced only 16 points\, and 9 of those came in the last 3 minutes of the game. Defense shut down their rush, yet let Bernard Barrian and Sydney Rice (who?) toast them receiving. It was 21-14 at the half including the Matthews TD, 28-14 5 minutes into the 3rd qtr, and was pretty much over with at that...

If Love eventually replaces Rodgers and wins a Superb Owl, fans will applaud the pick. If he only wins 1 Superb Owl during his time in GB, (many of those same) fans will piss and moan how Gutey (and/or successor) wasted his time in GB.

In the Superb Owl, some dude named Frank Zombo started, along with Bishop, Clay, and Hawk. Not exactly a murderer's row of LBs.

Watched the 2011 season opener vs the Saints last night, but missed the Superb Owl vs the Steelers today. I did see lots of highlights today, though. The big thing that stood out to me was how dynamic the WRs were in that era. Jennings was so fluid, Jordy was entering his prime, and Driver was very dependable in his role. And all of them were very sure-handed; I saw many instances where they were literally snatching the ball out of the air. I had forgotten how good the OL was. Lang and...

A lot of posters here didn't want to pull the trigger on Mack last year. Draft picks were too important. I wanted Mack at any cost. We all know how that turned out! If Brown could be had for a reasonable amount you do it. As been stated, if he flames out you cut him. If you want the Superb Owl you have to take some chances.

Re: McCarthy's gotten too comfortable.
MM won a Superb Owl with his offense. Only 6 other coaches in the last 7 years can say that. And, besides him, only the UN acknowledged super genius Bill Belichek has been to the playoffs each of those 7 years. So his faith in his system is understandable. But his passing offense based on reading the bias of the defense and adjusting the routes toward its weakness assumes that knowing which route is going to be run is sufficient advantage to succeed without dominant talent. That is nominally...

Re: McCarthy's gotten too comfortable.
You are exactly right about how to defend the Packers offense. Jam the receivers to ensure no separation, keep them in front of you to limit the yard after the catch, and since you can play vanilla in the secondary you can use more of the front 7 to contain Rodgers since they don't have to blitz too much. I still say that the ultimate reason for this is that there is no real threat out of the Packers running game. Sure Eddie will get the occasional 15-20 yard run but usually it is a 2-3 yard...

Re: Goodbye, Dom Capers
Exactly. Those LB's are nothing more than backups (barring significant improvement). Unfortunately, with Bishop and Perry out, backups have to start. I've been pining for a new ILB for awhile, so I really hope to see TT draft one in the first round or two. And OLB is still an issue and while Perry should be back to full strength in the offseason, they need a third player there that can play. Tramon, Heyward, Shields and Burnett all had horrible games today, but I'm willing to give them the...

Re: Whiners...living up to their meme...
Funny thing about the Vikes, well, one of the many funny things about them. Their best chance at a Superd Owl win was not in one of the 4 they played and lost, but in the one they didn't get to thanks to Late, and Across the Middle . Favre had one of the best years of his career and sure seemed like he was going to get that 2nd Lombardi, and then he did what we as Packers fans had seen too many times. That time it was a thing of beauty though.

While it won't happen, Tomlin could also be out of a job as many are calling for his firing. Pitt last won the Superb Owl in 2009, so one year behind MM. And of course, now that MM is on the market, fans want the local boy back. And when you look at it, the time might be right. Ben is nearing the end, so a young QB has to be developed. Tomlin has been in Pitt since 2007. The squabble with Bell hasn't done Tomlin (or Bell) any favors (although it's the front office). Who's to say that...

Sick isn't the word. I was ready to trade 5 winning seasons just so the Packers could win the Owl in the Big Stapler this year. Things were setting up pretty good too. Vikes, Bears sucked. I had this horrible feeling before the season started that the freaking Seahawks, the team I personally hate more than any other, would get back to the Super Bowl. After week one I was feeling a little bit more optimistic that maybe the Pack could get homefield where they have had success vs. the Hags. Those dreams are dashed after today though. I never thought New England was automatic entry for the Superb Owl even before this game. If Pittsburgh is healthy, they have the firepower to match, maybe even exceed what NE has. It was Jones. The Packer coaching staff better recognize that talent trumps experience in this case. Get him in there a lot, and the plays will keep coming. The Packers resembled the team we all think can be a Superb Owl contender in that second half. 20-3 and playmaking from #12. Defense needs to start playmaking too- where are the turnovers? Easy to get frustrated with so-so wins against teams that are proving to not be very good. But like most year with this team under Thompson and...

Re: 2017 Packer Defense
Heckler you said it well. Except for the lack of depth at OLB, we have a real chance to prove if its the scheme or the players this season. If we don't lose too many players to injury we will see if its the scheme by how we play this year. Because I think we now have better players taking the field. So we will be good enough to get into the playoffs. After that, who knows? The NE defense looks mighty good for when we face them in the Superb owl.
