PAWS How good is the GB O-line? Other than Bak and maybe Jenson, everyone was griping at the start of the year about how Turner was awful, Lindsley was a mess, Wagner was a turnstile, Patrick was barely serviceable as a backup, what was going to happen without Bulaga, etc. And here it is, another game without a sack. According to NFL.com, the O-line has given up 14 sacks, the fewest in the NFL. They're pretty good. Don't look now, but Opie had a 57-yarder and a 50+ average on his two punts.

I'm happy that the O Line has gelled into a solid unit and we appear to have a bit of depth. However the fact that Rodgers is getting rid of the ball so fast is the real reason for the O Line improvement. That's a credit to MLF's O / playcalling and Rodgers buying into the system. But yes the O Line is a strength and the running game has improved as well.

Oh, yeah. Jenkins was the unsung hero and I think he doesn't get enough credit this year either. The announcers never seem to say his name, but everywhere you turn, it's Jenkins opening up holes or standing guys up or taking guys' spots when they go down. Geez, if they desperately needed a TE, I would half expect to see 74 line up out there and catch five balls in a game! And why is the running game better? Because of the O-line. Yes, the sacks are down because MLF is calling great plays to...

+ Division win +Division won +Offensive firepower (MVS with a very nice game!) +Mason kicks and tackles with a (relative) vengeance -Coaches and coordinators often take the fall, but sooner-or-(a few coaches) later maybe it's just a glaring lack of talent in a few spots.

POS The offense. All of it. Literally everyone played well. Kudos to MLF, I really thought he called a game knowing that he needed his O to extend drives. Much better playcalling to move the chains and an improvement from the Minny/Indy Games Instead of just saying "I'm gonna get stoned/baked" We're bringing back spliff, as in "I'm gonna go smoke a spliff like a cigarette" Mason Crosby FG I'm not sure I'd have kicked it there. Made an ENORMOUS difference though. NEG Defense made a few stops...

Positives: As someone else said, just about everything about the offense was very good today. The defense was just okay, but they did play better after looking pathetic on Detroit’s 1st drive of the game. Negatives: Almost every Packers fan has PTSD from the Special Teams performance in the 2014 NFC Championship game. Today brought back some flashbacks from that game. Matt LaFleur is going to have to really have to take the bull by the horns and spend some extra time with Mennenga if he’s...

I would hardly say that he's ignored as I've seen people praise him a lot, but my goodness it's hard to overstate just how damn good Elgton Jenkins has been. For all the crap I give Gutefisk, he absolutely nailed that pick. And I don't know where the Packers would be if they didn't have Jenkins who just slots in wherever the hell you need and he does an amazing job.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
I'll add this one as well. Really almost as safe a call as a run and if it's not there AR just keeps it and lets the clock run. Not a big stat line from Big Bob but he was clutch (as was MVS).

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
+MVS was two handing the ball after every catch and avoiding contact. He wasn't going to fumble again. + We aren't loins fans. + We got to hear Schlereth use the term "tail-piping" - Special teams -Penalties I don't really like the phrase, "it is what it is", but that pretty well sums up our defense. However, detwat is in the top half of the league in Points/game and top 10 in passing yards/game. Stafford is a really good qb. Combine that with possible new looks with DB as their coach, its...

I bitch at the D most every week, my eyetest says they suck BUT with records 10 and 3 this year and 13 and 3 last year it appears they must be doing something right. I am usually not a stat guy but the D does rank fairly well this year in most areas. That must mean some thing, eh.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
One question for those that might know the rules. When the Lions guy came close to recovery of the onside kick, would he have needed to have possession of the ball with 2 feet in to truly recover it? I saw he only had 1 foot in before going out of bounds but Dean Blandino never told us what the proper ruling should have been. At least I don’t remember hearing him specify that. Is only 1 foot in enough to consider possession gained on an onside kick? I wouldn’t think so but it wasn’t clear.

Kirksey has got to be benched. He is an embarrassment. I know he produced for Pettine in Cleveland, but that was a few injuries ago...

I liked what I saw from Scott too. We have some options here, we just need to understand that the worst option is Kirksey.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
"That position is not a coaching problem - it's a talent problem." I slightly disagree. Barnes and Martin have flashed. If you can coach them up to the point that they are not mental liabilities on the field, and so far they haven't bee, it's not as bad as it once looked. Summers needs to go. Kirksey needs to go.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
Martin is prone to injury, Barnes "flashing" as a UDFA is something we've seen a million times before. That doesn't mean they don't deserve to be on the field more but it's not exactly a surety they are average, which is a significant jump for this team.

He saw a few snaps in Q3, but it was exclusively Z, P, KC, & Lowry in the 4th. Seems Gary & Ramsey split the snaps in Q2/Q3, with Gary getting more overall. I don't think either saw the field in the 4th.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
Pettine's emphasis since day 1 has been to stop the big play and the passing game. I guess they usually do enough of the first to allow the offense to outscore most teams. But everyone knows that is not a good recipe for playoff football. Totally improbable but it does leave you vulnerable to being gashed by a good running team. That would never happen.

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
It's better than Dom's defenses getting gashed for huge plays with receivers running free from blown coverages, but it needs one of two things to happen. 1. The offense (usually the QB) to make a mistake. A bad throw or a drop. The better the team and the QB the less likely this happens. 2. Someone on defense (usually a pass rusher) to beat a guy one on one to make a play. Pettine will occasionally bring a blitz from a DB for a big play (like Savage yesterday or Alexander's safety against...

Re: Paws/Nags @Kitties
Rodgers being on time is one big reason for the low sack numbers this year. But they have also given him time when needed. Over and over again this year you see Rodgers in the pocket, calmly waiting for a play to develop. In 2018 he was not comfortable in the pocket. Not at all. He had happy feet. Some of that seemed to carry over to 2019. There were times that he had time, had a clean pocket but the 2018 timer in his head told him he was in trouble. QB and OL are fully in sync now.
