Giants have zero. Cowboys are closest with two but nothing on the horizon. Herber was a two way HB/QB when GB won their 3rd consecutive title (only team to win 3 consecutive NFL titles. And GB did it twice) but didn’t actually become a FT QB until 32 and then really took off when they got this cat named Hutson. So yes. Herber certainly counts and makes it virtually impossible anyone else ever gets to 4.

I couldn't agree more about Bo and Reggie and even though I didn't care for the persona Deon Sanders also belongs in that group. Even though he missed it by 2 years James Lofton was a great athlete - just think if he could arrive in GB as a 24 W\R with Aaron Rogers throwing to him, he would have set records that Don Hutson would have envied!!!

Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were both Pro Bowlers in '14, Jordy setting the Packers franchise record with over 1,500 yards receiving, while also grabbing 98 catches and 14 (or was it 15) TD. This on a franchise that has had Don Hutson, James Lofton, and Sterling Sharpe play the position. Eddie Lacy is a Pro Bowler, too. How many teams in the NFL, right now, are lining up a Pro Bowl RB, and two Pro Bowl WR, on every play? Not many I can think of. Look at the NFC. Chicago? Nope. When they...

I agree until I thought about it some. Many of those thoughts already expressed here. GB won a SB in 2011 without a dominant TE. But they did not have 8 wide outs either. 9 OL is a little strong there - unless there are some unpublished lingering injury concerns. I don't think the schemes have changes unless those practices inside the Hutson Center they were working on the "real" stuff - both on offense and defense. Maybe when we see how those players are used and what they do it will all...

Don Hutson. To see what it was like playing football back then, and what made him so special as an athlete and person. I'd like to see his perspective on the game back then compared to today's money driven, media-crazed, corporatized game. Bart Starr in second place to ask him about Lombardi and just to see a HOFer who is probably the classiest pro athlete in history, much less in GBP history.

Re: I'll Admit It: These Days, I'm a Favre Fan First

The Broncos wait for you when Favre retires. He's one guy who plays football, made millions of dollars, has carte blanche in Wisconsin and will ride off into the sunset happy as a clam making millions more on his reputation. If that's all you can root for then you are a bad fan. Being a fan of a team is more than a bunch of guys playing a game. It's a cultural commons we all can enjoy. Favre is just one part of a elaborate team history that binds that cultural commons across generations. How...

Your traditional bluntness notwithstanding, you make a fair point. And you'll note I recognize that it's a kind of selfish approach to be thinking most of one guy (granted, the oldest guy on the team). Nobody said they were "just" a Favre fan. But considering I was born in 1968, the Favre Era is the only really successful one I've lived through. The '80s were fun, at times, but we were always second-rate. Tough not to associate Favre with virtually the only time I've rooted for the Packers...

This is a great thread. The stories of loved ones both alive and passed on to me are what makes our franchise and its fans so special. It's a family thing. My dad passed away in October 1990. I had just turned 21 two weeks before. He had been sick just 6 months or so, and the cancer spread quickly from his spinal cord up to his brain. It was shocking to say the least, as he had just retired a year earlier, an electrical engineer at AT&T, formerly Western Electric- he was one of many...

Thankfully, I have originals of all the pre-1979 cards listed, except the Chickle cards ($500 ish for good ones) and the '57 Hornung and Starr rookies---originals are several hundred. I have a couple of nice reprints of those however. Leaf put out Packer cards in 1948 and 1949 that we're pretty cool (and pricey) I've got about half of them----the rest I'm working on. Coolest cards? In 1961 Lake-to-Lake Dairy put out a really cool set of Packer cards with a number of Packers that never...

Bring your parents/guardians to watch you have the time of your life inside the Don Hutson Center, the Packers indoor practice facility where you’ll practice skills and drills with other Packers backers and a few up-and-coming Packers players for this members-only event. New members must sign up by May 12, 2013 to get an invitation to this year's Clinic.

If you're going with players alone, I'd go with: Starr Nitschke Hutson White I went with White because I thought the "newer" era needed to be represented. Favre douched his way out of consideration. Woodson was my second choice with the assumption that he'll be a HOF player.

Packers players only - likely result: Hutson, Starr, Nitschke, Favre (as much as I would hate this he defined the franchise for 15 years). What I'd like to see: Hutson, Starr, Nitschke, Rodgers (have to have someone from the modern era). If you include executives/management: Lambeau, Lombardi, Ron Wolf, Ted Thompson - this would represent every era in which they won an NFL championship Other NFC NOrth teams: Chicago - Halas, Payton, Ditka, Sayers, Butkus, Singletary, Urlacher (hard to...

Not saying Driver necessarily needs to have his number retired, my point was he's more of the caliber person I want to see on that board. To be fair though, Driver is deserving of major organization honors. All Time leader in catches and yards, more than James Lofton, Sterling Sharp, and Don Hutson. And he is a really great representative of the Green Bay Packers and a true Packer legend. No he's not necessarily an all time NFL great like Reggie, although I do believe he will be in the NFL...

Point of order, GD: 1. In reality you have no way of knowing he didn't. Same goes for Starr, Nitschke and Hutson. You can read any number of accounts from the '60s and earlier saying how uppers and many other drugs were passed around freely in NFL locker rooms in those days and, presumably, earlier... before there were league rules. I don't know that every team did this; I would love to think the Packers didn't, and I would have the hardest time believing any of those four did it if someone...

Kicker or not, Longwell holds Packer records: 1) He set a team record by leading the club in scoring in nine consecutive seasons (1997-2005), besting the previous mark of seven by Don Hutson (1939-45). 2) Longwell also holds franchise records for field goals (226), field-goal percentage (81.6, 226/277), seasons leading the team in field goals (nine), extra points (376), 100-point seasons (eight) and consecutive games scoring (144). Makes sense to me.

There's no word yet on how long rookie DE Datone Jones will be sidelined, but early indications are that his sprained left ankle wasn't severe. Jones initially injured the ankle on his first play against Arizona and did not play another down. He sat out all of last week and returned to practice on Monday. During a team drill midway through practice, he rolled the ankle again and limped badly off the field. After trying to walk it off, he went into the Don Hutson Center to have ice applied to...

Jordy had 15 TD catches, which was third all time for GB. Number one was Sharpe in 1994 with 18, which was hardly a surprise since he was basically the whole offense during that time. What stunned me was number two - Don Hutson with 17 in 19frickin42. You kidding me? 70 YEARS AGO? I wish I could go back in time and see for myself just how good this guy was.

Blair I saw Johnny U in person at least 8 times. I don't think he is as good as the top QB's of today. He couldn't run around much and he got a lot of Pub for being a free agent. Good QB yes. Better than Montana, Manning even Marino I doubt it. Absolutely the best of his era but his era was a running game era. Very little blitzing, fewer even nickle and dime defenses. He probably is really somewhere in the top ten and thats it.

How about the all time winningest QB and Yardage and TD leader in that Top 10. Boris is right though, in this day of age, the way the game is played now, Driver is one of the best if not the best in Packers lore. Football out of all the sports has evolved, so it's hard to make comparisions to the "golden years". Hutson dominated, but that competition wasn't nearly as fierce as the modern era, IMO.

It will all come down to turnovers due to the weather. Any of you live in the far upper mid-west know what I mean. 10 degrees in November seems cold, 10 degrees in Jan. not so much. Our guys are used to the cold and the 49ers are not be it toting the rock or making tackles. While Packers may practice inside the Hutson Center the doors will be open to simulate game time temps. The Whiners can not do that. Yes, it does make a difference. Packers will win a close one. Maybe like 24-23 or even ...

Getting a room in the GB area at this time is going to be pretty tough to do, as most book out within a day or so after the schedule comes out. Also, as mentioned, most require a 2 night stay minimum for game weekends, but not all. I think you can still get a list of local hotels/motels from the GB Chamber of Commerce website (or Better Business Bureau) with phone numbers etc. Plan on making lots of calls. Could get rooms pretty easy I think in Appleton/Neenah/Menasha only about 30 minutes...

I'm actually on the road from Minneapolis to Green Bay to take my son to his first game. Getting tickets is easy since scalping is legal. There is an area cordoned off near the Hutson center if I remember right where there is a cop overseeing the scalpers. Since there is competition, market forces usually bring prices down especially closer to kickoff and I've always gotten really good seats. Even got playoff tickets for the San Fran game at 30 yard line under face value once.
