My only real complaint of Love is he just didn't look ready when he got to play vs the Chefs and Lions in 2021. Preseason has been some good and some not so good which is pretty typical of any preseason game given what you are usually surrounded with.

But I still have a really hard time bitching about the turnovers in the SF game. He hit a receiver in the facemask and that turned into an INT. Threw a less than perfect pass that the WR caught and then the ball was lost in a tumble. Made a bad decision while Rodgers was running a lazy route but that one is something you can blame the QB for.

You aren't going to know if he's the real deal until he gets some considerable regular season playing time. Hard to say if that's going to happen before his contract expires.

Honestly thought he sucked in the 9ers game and I didn't watch the AINTS GAME.

I have no idea if he can play or not, but he improves every time I see him and he is starting to show flashes of good play.

"and he faced some unfortunate circumstances his first year, "

Every rookie that year did.   Every kid going into Kinder did, yet they are still expected to be able to read at a 2nd grade level by 2nd grade.  I think it's reasonable to expect him to play like a 3rd year player in year 3.

Why didn't the covid year hold back Burrow and Herbert?   Is covid year an excuse for Tua, or is he just not at the level of those two?

Why wasn’t he as ready as guys picked in the top 5? That’s your argument?🀑

Why is Love such a high pick? They took a chance on a guy who They thought could be coached to play. It's a crapshoot and drafting late first round every year is the price you pay for winning.

Very true.  It just might be that they missed on Love.  It happens.  A little over 40% of first round QB picks are busts which doesn't include the percentage who are just ok and just never reached their calculated potential.  That's the highest percentage of every position.  Because it's the most important position on the team, a lot of teams have reached for a QB in the first round.

We happen to be in a position where we don't have to hit on a QB in the draft yet, but we should start drafting a QB high in the draft if there's a decent prospect out there.  And, get a veteran backup.

There’s no need to waste a roster spot on another QB. Love ain’t going anywhere, and as long as AR is healthy, I’d rather use a roster spot on a player who might actually see the field. Three QBs at this point makes no sense.

That's legit, but my thought behind that is to be prepared, like 13X mentioned, for Love moving on if they can't find a deal that works for both of them.  And Love has showed nothing so far to indicate he's the future franchise QB, so we should still be looking for that, or at least lurking in the shadows at this point since we don't know when AR will decide to retire.  We don't need to keep three QB's this year, though, I agree.

I think there is a possibility they work out a contract extension at a lower price, maybe a one year deal if they're not sure if Rodgers will retire.

We'll see.  From Love's perspective, I'm sure he wants to be a starter, and if he thinks he can be a starter on another team, or another team offer that possibility, he'll bolt for the raise - who wouldn't?  Right now, there's nobody knocking on our door about acquiring him, but that could change next year.

@PackLandVA posted:

I don’t believe Love can β€œbolt” after next season. The Packers hold the option for the fifth year, not the player. And veteran QB backups are a dime a dozen.  There are a handful of really good ones. But most are JAGs at best.

Gotcha.  What happens if they can’t work out an agreeable extension?  The Packers aren’t going to pay him $20M

No one is.

Right.  So my question is, does he have to stay if they can’t find a reasonable deal that works for both of them, or does Love have the option to leave for a better deal elsewhere?  Serious question, I really don’t know how that 5th year option works.  If he has to stay here next year, no need to look for a backup, but we should always be looking for a QB in the draft, like Wolf used to do.

What about Love to Carolina, keep Etling and keep your eyes open in the draft?  It, on paper is supposed to be pretty good.
Who knows, Love has looked like he may have turned the corner and he should be worth something.

There are a few +s with this,  no worries about the 5 th year, they should be able to get a draft choice which should be pretty low in the draft order.

I’m not proposing this,  just a thought.
