Carolina is a train wreck.  Traded away heir first this year to draft Bryce Young over CJ Stroud.  Plus, they miss out of Drake Maye or Caleb Williams this year.  I would feel bad for the team but story was that Tepper was heavily involved in trading up for Young.  When it's the owner's mistake, nothing you can really do.

Honestly what coach would want the Panthers job right now?  Even dumpster fires are looking at them and saying damn you are a shit show.

Reich will never be confused with Lombardi but to me you have to give the guy a realistic time to make it work.

How many people actually want to coach that shit franchise with Tepper calling all the shots, especially the football shots. Tepper is the reason they drafted Bryce Young. I love it when owners think they know everything.

Reich has had an interesting coaching career - 2018 with Luck was good but then had Brissett, an aging Rivers, and a deteriorating Wentz from 2019-2021. Overall he had a decent first four years in Indy considering the QB situation after Luck abruptly retired in 2019.  2022 doesn't go well with Matt Ryan's corpse playing QB and he's fired after going 3-5-1 (which was odd).  Gets hired on in Carolina with almost no talent to speak of with a rookie QB and shocker, things don't go well and he's blamed.  Look at Carolina's roster and try to point out all the talent.  Outside of Brian Burns, there isn't much here.

I don't think Reich is a great coach but he's probably average.  Not bad enough that he should have been fired at this point.  On the bright side - the dysfunctional Panthers are in the NFC, so one less team to have to worry about.

How is their D looking?  Evero had the DEN D rolling last year.  Was hoping MLF would hire him instead of Barry.

Well, turning to the latest stats, let's see what to make of them:

Yards allowed/TDs scored on the D:
Panthers: 7th, 33 TDs
Packers: 19th, 23 TDs

Passing defense (rank, yds/game, TDs allowed:
Panthers: 5th, 179 yds/game, 13 TDs
Packers: 10th, 205, 12

Rushing defense (rank, yds/game, TDs allowed:
Panthers: 24th, 129.4, 16
Packers: 29th, 135.2, 10

Scoring defense (rank, pts/game):
Panthers:  31st, 27.5
Packers: 10th, 20.4

Red zone (rank, % of TDs allowed):
Panthers: 31st, 70.6
Packers: 10th, 48.6

Third-down efficiency (rank, % success rate):
Panthers: 12th, 36.5%
Packers: 19th, 40%

Sacks (total):
Panthers: 18
Packers: 26

If the Panthers' defensive cupboard is really that bare, then hiring Evero would probably improve our D. GB has a lot more talant than Carolina. In fact, I think there are many defensive coordinators who would jump at the chance to be our next D coordinator.

They drafted the boom-or-bust Young, and so far it has been major bust. Young looks totally in over his head. Yes, he's not getting much help but, wow, he hasn't played anything like in college. IDK, maybe Alabama is a better team than the Panthers...

They traded away his would-be best receiver in the process, which doesnโ€™t help, either. The Texans also did a better job putting talent around Stroud.

Chase has interesting points of view from being a backup for so long. He has great enthusiasm and teaches something every time. This generation's Madden is a combination of him, O'Sullivan and whoever jumps in to chase their social media popularity. There's going to be a wave of QBs in the next couple years that were hungry kids and used all the YouTube QB channel's insights to accelerate the learning process.

Here comes the Rooney Rule hire and it will be detrimental to the spirit of the rule.

Some obscure black assistant will take the job and of course will fail.   But hey, look, we hired a black guy!!   See how not racist we are that we hire a guy based on race when he stands no chance.    Winning.

Good thing they hired a qualified, well known white coach last time. Whatever happened to him?๐Ÿคฃ

Race, race race. Boring fucking topic.

These Billionaires come in, think they can throw a bunch of money at the problem at it's all magically fixed.

The owner of the Giants told him...."This ain't like your other businesses....this is different" To which of course Tepper just Pooh Pooh's.....like "I got this"

No pal......you really don't got this. His press conference ....he literally says "I'm patient" but he fires his HC after 11 games and before that gets rid of Ruhle who had a 6 year contract.

Keep going buddy! You got this!!!

Great discussion and profile of Tepper in The Ringer yesterday. Sounds like a guy who inspires the people who work for him.

Itโ€™s also probably worth noting that, while Tepper has made a lot of money by being patient, he is not exactly a stoic individualโ€”this is the man who bought the Hamptons mansion of a Goldman executive who didnโ€™t promote him, just to demolish it and build a new one. Tepper might have been denied that promotion because of his personality, which a 2010 New York magazine profile described as โ€œloud and profane.โ€ In that same piece, Tepper described his penchant for knee-jerkism when confronted with anything he doesnโ€™t like: โ€œIf someone is an asshole,โ€ he said, โ€œlike a waiter at a restaurant, I think, I could just buy this place and fire that guy.โ€

Went down this rabbit hole and can't stop laughing. It turns out Tepper's wife played a role in hiring Reich and evaluating their QB choice. This is his second wife who is bit younger than he is.

Throughout this offseason, Mrs. Tepper has shown her role and importance to the organization goes beyond the role of social outreach or her husbandโ€™s handler. She was part of the hiring committee that landed Frank Reich, and she has been front and center as Carolina has been scouting their next quarterback. Some scratched their heads at the notion of the owner's wife helping in a football hire. This line of thinking is more than dated in this case, however. Sheโ€™s been an asset in Carolinaโ€™s decision-making this offseason. Without intimate knowledge of the hiring process or how much input she has given into who will be the next quarterback, sheโ€™s brought a fresh perspective and aided Tepper in making vital personnel decisions. Some may call it womenโ€™s intuition, but she had a good eye for talent. Moreover, she seems to understand people, which is part of the equation for successful football organizations.

Can you imagine Tepper running a draft and develop team? "Ruining" would be a more appropriate choice of words. He has to be the guy in charge and it's his vision that gets followed. He said he needs to see progress. So, he dumps Reich. Who would want to run that mess in Carolina, now, or ever? I hope Tepper leaves Carolina and comes to the vikings.

Who is the next Johnny Manziel. BK, do they have homeless guys in Charlotte to help this mofo with his draft picks?

Of course, a woman could do the job if she has the knowledge and experience. The question is, what experience other than being the owner's wife does Mrs. Tepper have? Whoever wrote this article seems to be giving her a lot of credit for knowledge; so, how knowledgeable about the QB position is she?

Don't think anyone was inferring the "woman" aspect....

I was talking about the meddling owner....

The other 30 owners know to leave the football decisions to football people. Then there is What Me Murphy....who is more worried about sledding hills and fans coming after him with pitchforks for trading Aaron Rodgers.

I'm just glad Carolina is in the NFC. You keep doing you Tepper

My first thought was about that Chicago GM talking about exploring every avenue to improve the team.

Had about the same amount of success, too.
