I don't think Gute would risk going full rebuild

The label " rebuilding"  is kinda weird and outdated. For some reason the front offices would rather eat glass than admit they're rebuilding. I guess that's a dog whistle for some fans.

However. The Packers- like most teams- replace about 17- 22 of the 53 on their roster every season. The turnover is constant across the league because of the salary structures. A few 2nd contract vets and more than 50% of the team is made up of rookies and 1-2 year players. Those players are quickly and easily swapped out with the next batch of youngsters. Every year.

Take a look at the Packers 2019 roster or the 2021 roster and note how many of them are gone. Apparently the Packers were "rebuilding" while AR was the back- to- back MVP

Also, I'll echo what antoo said, that particular writer is not very good at making cogent football comments.

The perception of a rebuild is falsely created by Rodgers moving on and this clown writer fell for it. A lot of these writers are just football fans like us just more long winded in hopes of catching on somewhere. I knew Florio when he was just like us on the old AOL board. He actually told me he produced a TV show that was on but didn't make it. I thought he was full of BS but he obviously met the right people.

Look how Chad Rueter and Jason Wilde rose. It does happen. Rueter sent out his draft analysis for free before he became known and it was impressive.

Jason at OTC with an article talking about signing UDFAs. He has Packers estimate at 15 for the 2023 season. That's a lot of players and with limits on the amount each team can spend on UDFAs, GB won't be able to offer the most coin $$

So what teams are doing now is offering guaranteed cash for the UDFAs as a means of enticing them. The other thing for GB is that with (4) 7th rounders- they can use those picks on priority UDFA players and not have to worry about wooing them to Titletown.

Packers have a very good reputation among players/agents in terms of giving these undrafted guys a chance to shine. Some teams suck for UDFAs, the coaches just won't give them a fair shot.

MLF has been the coach for 4 years.

The Packers have 4 guys left on the roster that played for MM. Bakh, Kenny Clark, Aaron Jones, and Jaire Alexander.

If rebuilding really means you are going into the season having absolutely no serious chance to win the Super Bowl, the Packers have had maybe 5 years in the last 30 where they were rebuilding: 2006 (MM's first year), 2008 (Rodgers' first year as a starter), 2019 (MLF's first year where they ended up going 13-3), 2020 (when they clearly were drafting for the future and not to win that year and still went 13-3), and the upcoming season. Every other year, you could argue that they had at least a puncher's chance at a Super Bowl because they had a HOF-level QB.

Here's the historical ELO ratings from 538 sports for GB with the dips and peaks noted in graphical format. The chart is cool because you can overlay a 2nd team next to GB to compare. Also, if you click on the condensed graph it will expand so you can see it year- by- year.

One thing of note is that MLFs teams have all played better as the season progressed, the arrow is rising. That's an area where Mike Holmgren really excelled - getting them playing top ball in December/January.

from the Dope Sheet

K. Nixon was named to the All-NFL and All-NFC teams by the Pro Football Writers of America as a kick returner, becoming just the second kick returner in franchise history to be selected to the All-NFL teams by the PFWA
(KR Roell Preston in 1998).

LB Quay Walker was named to the PFWA's All-Rookie team, the first Packer rookie to be selected to the team since 2019. Dating back to 1974, Walker is the 8th Packers LB to make the team, joining John Anderson (1978), Brian Noble (1985), Wayne Simmons (1993), Na'il Diggs (2000), Nick Barnett (2003), A.J. Hawk (2006) and Clay Matthews (2009).

J. Alexander was named to the PFWA's All-NFC team for the second time in his career

The Packers' three double-digit comeback wins this year tied for the most in a single season in franchise history (2017, 2002, 1990).

Green Bay recorded a fourth straight win with a 41-17 victory over the Vikings. It was the Packers' 10th straight win at Lambeau Field in December/January, the longest streak in those months by Green Bay since a 13-game winning streak in 2008-13.

From a friend.

I had dinner at Oneida last night with one of the directors. Mason Crosby is a member of the board as well. Anyhow my friend tells me Crosby’s home in GB is completely cleared out and he and his family are moving to the Nashville area where their new home is just about done. He said he wants to play 2 more years and even if GB were to offer him a contract he’s moved on.

Because I’m too lazy to research this:  couldn’t the Jets just wait on an offer for Rodgers until GB has to decide what to do with AR since he’s not going to play?  Meaning, sometime after the draft.  No other team is interested.  The Packers still hold the rights to him unless he decides to retire.  So what are the Packers going to do with him if they have no offers?  Would he just sit out the season?  At this point, it seems far from certain we get anything for him at all.  Which makes me even more mad we didn’t trade him last year.  The Jets may just use their 13th pick to get a QB.  It’s not like they’re just a QB away from winning it all.  If I was them I’d rather use the pick to draft a QB who could be a franchise QB rather than a short-term rental that’s going to be expensive and a headache to deal with.

In theory, yes, but that has to mean nobody else would enter the bidding and they still want him at least by training camp. It's in both teams' best interests to have the deal done by next Friday.

I still like the idea of trading Rodgers and #78 for #42 and #43, maybe swapping 13 and 15 in the process (and the conditional pick next year). At #13, say if Levis drops or someone (Seattle?) wants Porter, they could maybe drop back, recoup the third and be where grabbing a TE is better value or Wright is still there. Five picks in the first three rounds, four in what may well be the sweet spot, would be great for adding talent, and they still have two #5s and the bevy of #7s to have a jump on what would be priority UDFAs.

It's solid for the Jets as they are then basically only trading their #2 from their original picks this year since they have a replacement already signed for that jitterbug receiver spot. Of course they might be waiting to see who's on the board at #13, as well.
