FWIW, the Packers are currently $24m under the cap. Even eating $9m of Rodgers' contract if he's traded and setting aside $4m for rookies, we still have $11m for FA's and extensions. We're doing better than most teams right now.

I was kinda hoping that it would be for more than one year. But I will take it.
Makes sense to see if he’s a one year wonder or not.
One of the few playmakers on the team and really couldn't afford to lose him.
Word is they will not offer Barnes a contract and will tag Nijman with a second round tag.
I agree as giving him a low offer is a @$2.5 million contract. Maybe they're hoping to go cheaper, but someone will offer him.

There's no need to tie up $2.6M cap with the lowest tender when you can just sign Barnes to any deal you like later on. The team and his agent have had conversations and if both want to see him return, they'll work it out.
However, Barnes has no path to starting in GB, so he might prefer to play on a lesser talented squad to accrue more snaps. Additionally, the Packers got a good look at Isaiah McDuffie and as the season went along, McDuffie took Barnes' ST snaps. So its possible GB isn't overly worried about losing Krys Barnes.
But either way, GB needs that cap space right now for other signings

I am beginning to wonder if the team will make ANY free agent move. Sure they have and might sign some their own. But, is that IT? So far, Nixon is the only one.
