The ever-cla$$y Queens will have their star back this week. Must've been a different "Daddy Peterson" that shoved leaves in a 4 year-old's mouth and beat him repeatedly with tree branches. He admitted to this, what is there that needs to be further found in a court?? Fck Goodell and Wilf for perpetuating this sht.
So, Barkley is rationalizing this by explaining that social practices he saw in the south 50 years ago should be used in figuring out whether something is acceptable today?
Yes.. Using the culture argument.
"i was whipped as a kid, repeatedly. Happened all the time to me. I can't tell you how many times I was whipped"
Those have been reoccurring comments over the weekend. I've heard it again and again. Not just a southern thing.
If it happened repeatedly, it stands to reason the correctional effect is marginal at best and more likely minimal. Right? And then it's still anyone's guess (50/50) how you develop into adulthood. But you can't take whipping after whipping and then say without it you'd have ended up on the wrong side of being a model citizen.
Yes, that is what he is saying.
I wonder how he disciplined his daughter.

That's because it's about dominance. Strength and dominance. It has little to do with behavioral change. It has to do with the parent reestablishing a sense of dominance over their child. And that's why it continues... because it is effective in restoring a sense of dominance in the parent. And that's why some people resist the change.... because society is threatening their "right" to be the boss. Those who don't agree are viewed as weak. It's not about right or wrong. It's not about behavioral change. It's about dominance. Just like some "men" believe it's their right to beat their wife if their sense of dominance is threatened.
While I'm appalled at Barkley's point here - the subtext of my comment was also a subtle (maybe too subtle) nod that using the "well this is the way things were done in the south 50 years ago", could be used to justify many other southern practices from long ago, no?
The "I got it and I turned out OK" is such flawed logic.
I also sat in the front seat of the car as a toddler, so this "child seats" fad should just go away.
I had a similar thought CAPF95. Even Barkley commented how he's black and Rome is white... For some, the south was a much better place when there was segregation.
Sean Kemp, Jermichael, Antonio Cromartie, all agree, there's nothing wrong with having 5, 7, 9 babies out of wedlock with bunch of different women,
AP father of the year, why this piece of garbage didn't catch more flack for the little boy that was murdered in SD, is beyond me, but part of it is he's a football star that won't criticized by pasty little boys,,,,,cause that'd be racist!!!!!!!!!
What's the chance Goodell lays down the law now that the Vikings announced they have reinstated Peterson and that he is likely to play against the Saints?
I finally found an instance where I wouldn't mind Goodell calling Rob Ryan from a burner phone and saying "You know that anti-bounty policy? Yeah, it's waived this week."
don't know if anyone saw Spielman's press conference, but it was pretty much a disaster.
This whole incident is like shining a black light on a hotel room. A lot of ugliness is getting revealed.
Next time one of his draft picks doesn't turn out. We should whip Spielman in the balls until they bleed and then tell him, "it's just our form of work place discipline, man up."
Jeebus, Spielman is a flatulant tool. The presss conference answers are truly awful. I might gain a modicum of respect if he actually just admitted "we got our asses handed to us yesterday and without our best player we don't stand a chance."
It's a different world now. This type of abuse has been going on for hundreds of years & through generations.
Obviously it's appalling. A lot of it never makes the news but involve an NFL football player (or any other rich & famous person) & it's on the front page of every newspaper & website on the planet.
Which is a good thing, sadly enough. It always brinsg it closer to home when it's not a nameless/faceless/unknown at the center of it.
I have a female friend who actively and voluntarily raises funds for victims of domestic abuse who is also a big Vikings fan and she's been claiming she's waiting until due process has been completed before being upset with Peterson. I know a few people who IRL are no longer even casual friends over this.
(I think that's the right clip. I didn't actually watch it.)
Is he a helluva running back? Absolutely. But the league and teams have sold their souls to the devil and have no morals or integrity or ethics. What did you expect Spielman to say?? His job is on the line if they don't win and we all know without Peterson that is a 3 win ball club.
Exactly, Tschmack,
I was talking to a friend this weekend, and he said, "look the NFL wants to have all of this aggression, big hits, cheerleaders, male dominance, and then they get hit in the head over the fact that there players exhibit the same aggressive actions in their personal life". I'm not saying the NFL is to blame over how someone disciplines their kids, but IMO they do add to the culpability.
I don't watch the NFL because I think they guys that play the sport are hero's I don't watch the NFL because I expect them to be on top of all social and societal issues.
NFL is entertainment to me. Nothing more and nothing less. How they discipline in the work place is up to them. If i don't agree with it and find them morally reprehensible I can move along. Peterson deserves his day in court like anyone. He has plenty of cash so I am sure it will all work out well for him. - But that is a different argument about the have$ and have not$. I don't look to he Jerruh Jones and Zygi Wolf's of the world to set my moral compass
all this talk about southern culture gave me a hankerin for some fried chicken and sweet tea. Went to Church's on lunch and ordered a 2 piece with a large sweet tea.'
Get back to the office, Mother F's gave me coke!!! RAGE!!!
I went to chick-fil-a for lunch....because they don't like homo's and honor God's day by being closed.
Did you ask for a literacola?

Riddle me this, how many sons does he have?
Who knows, maybe Uncle Peterson is a badass too.
Just like Ray Rice jaw-jacking his fiance' wife, We all know it wasn't the first nor last time he has "disciplined" his son(s).
That's messed up. Classic for that organization.

PFT is reported that AP is being investigated for another child abuse incident involving one of his other sons.
Here's a pretty detailed write up on incident #2:
http://www.khou.com/story/news...4-year-old/15693941/
HOUSTON -- Photos and text messages obtained by the I-Team reveal another incident in which Adrian Peterson is accused of injuring another son while disciplining the boy.
The four-year-old is by a different mother than the alleged victim in the Montgomery County case, in which Peterson is charged with felony injury to a child. In that case,Peterson admits to repeatedly striking the boy with a tree branch or "switch," but has maintained he did not intend to harm the child, and was using his judgment as a parent to discipline his son.
The latest incident allegedly occurred last June, while the boy, who lives out of state, was visiting Peterson at his gated home in The Woodlands. A photo, allegedly texted by Peterson to the boy's mother, shows a head wound to the boy covered by two bandages. Other photos, allegedly taken weeks later, reveal a scar over his right eye.
Where does AD find the time to abuse all his illegitimate kids? Seems like he's targeting just the 4 year old male demographic at this time.
What a piece of garbage.
@DonBanks: Serious question: How many 4 year old sons does Peterson have?
Just spitting out there, but if AP were a better father
oh nevermind
@mikefreemanNFL: This is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. http://vikingsmessageboard.com

Vikings Message Board has been shut down permanently. It will not return. There are two primary reasons.
1. The Vikings cowardly decision to reinstate a child abuser and think that an apology will make this blow over. We will not stand for this arrogance and we will no longer be the home of any support of the Vikings. We stand for those who cannot defend themselves.
2. We will not give a voice to thugs who think child abuse is "cultural" or worse, openly advocate child abuse as a reasonable method of punishment. This ends here. Yes, a few board members have ruined it for everyone. Congratulations, assholes.
I could see a dude taking a huge sum of money to be the fall guy.
Just saying.
