McCarthy’s presser today was pretty revealing...

Didn't see it.  Highlights?

He dropped a few subtle hints- that he was unsatisfied with the job the personnel department has done. Thinks they need more veteran leadership in the lock room. And that he will be involved to some extent in the selection of the GM, and he requires a partnership from said GM.

His commentary about his view of the roster was especially interesting...

Cobb, Monty, Davis, Geronimo, and Janis! in a 5 WR set.

Did we cut or trade Adams?

Did people really think I was serious?

I should have called for a 4 WR/1 TE set, replacing Cobb with Richard Rodgers and his fleet feet.

OAK has too much talent to play the way they did this year and will be picking high again.  I'm not sure how good Gruden is as he inherited a very good roster in TB that he took to a SB win.  Luckily for him OAK should be similarly stocked very soon.

Gruden inherited a very good TB team that whipped ass on a very good team he built then was traded from.

Two things to remember about Gruden.

1. He turned Rich Gannon into a Pro Bowl QB for 4 consecutive years with a surrounding cast that included Tyrone Wheatley, Charlie Garner, and Rickey Dudley. The only true star Gannon had was Tim Brown. Gannon won an NFL MVP in the offense Gruden built.

2. Gruden was 1 tuck rule away from beating Bill B and Tom Brady in New England before Bill B and Tom Brady had accomplished **** together. Maybe the greatest “what if” NFL moment the last 20 years other than Minny not drafting Rodgers twice. I’m sure that play still pisses Charles Woodson off to no end.

Give Gruden Carr, Cooper, Lynch, and that OL as a starting point and it won’t take him long.

Condolences to Raider fans that got Chucky back in time to watch him roll to Vegas though.

Gruden has that Super Bowl win on the resume which is obviously a big deal but the overall resume is not super impressive.

Won that Super Bowl in his first year in Tampa Bay but in the six years after that the team was 45-51.  Only hit the 10 win mark once and didn't win a single playoff game in that six year stretch.

In his 11 seasons as a head coach the regular season record is 95-81, a respectable but not great 14 games over .500 spread over 11 seasons.  Just to throw out some other names: Jason Garrett is 14 games .500 in 8 seasons, Mike Zimmer is 14 games over .500 in just 4 seasons, Brian Billick was 16 games over .500 in 9 seasons, Mike Sherman was 18 games over .500 in just 6 seasons,  Wade Phillips was 18 games over .500 in 12 seasons.  Mike McCarthy is 51 games over .500 in 12 seasons.  Gruden is a good coach, but the resume isn't so great where I'd be falling over myself to hire him like the Raiders appear to be doing.

The #Titans are in the playoffs, but coach Mike Mularkey’s job is not safe. Sources say a loss could end his tenure, as the team prepares for a run at #Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. Big game today with multiple ramifications.

Yikes, job is never safe.

Sounds like Philbin is a done deal..

"Every time he stood up in front of the offense and talked, he had the respect of the players," Rodgers said before the Packers played the Dolphins in 2014. "Because we saw how hard he worked, his passion for the game, the way that he talked and the way that he cared about his players. Those were all qualities that a good head coach needs. So it was tough to see him go, but you can definitely see it back then.

"I owe a lot of my success to working under him. He helped me a lot over the years with different reminders."

Remember when Rodgers said it was important that everyone in the organization needed to be all in after the Atlanta playoff loss? Must have been tough for AR to not see guys like Philbin and McAdoo busting ass while seeing guys like Clements and Van Pelt do who the **** knows what. Worth noting that Clements decided to “pursue other opportunities”. He’s still looking for whatever that opportunity might be.

Getting giddy to see them possibly putting the band back together.
