Thing is Sparano didn't win, just had them playing hard and they are a mostly JV team.
Yeah, they played like guys who were trying to save their jobs. It happens over and over. Interim coach comes in, team immediately improves, and then they suck the very next season. The Packers haven't had an interim coach since 1953, which was the only time they've had one (two guys were co-HC, actually).
IIRC, the Raiduhs were in salary cap hell this year, but are supposed to have a boatload of cash to spend for the upcoming season. It will be difficult for Sparano to continue as HC, and I don't know enough about him or his staff to say if that's a good/bad thing.
Regardless of outcome, they are like so many other teams in the league. They have gotta find a QB, or they will continue to flounder as they have the past 10 years or so. That's where McKenzie will earn his money.
Nothing wrong with David Carr. He can play.
IMO, nothing would rally the Raiders fan base more than hiring an explayer as their HC. One who has experienced winning as a coach. One who is already connected to the front office.
Where's my monday morning sitton quote? Wot happened when Suh went huck finn on AAron's calf?
@AdamSchefter: Jets announced GM John Idzik and HC Rex Ryan have been fired.
@adamlevitan: #Jets defensive ranks in six years under Rex Ryan: 1st, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 6th.
He's a great defensive coach. Would not want to see him in Chicago.
NFL Mobile is reporting Mike Smith is out at ATL, as expected.
Yup....Rex Ryan rumored to be in line for HC in ATL
@AdamSchefter: Falcons announced HC Mike Smith has been fired.
They better have Boris on speed dial.
@RapSheet: .@MikeSilver says #Raiders owner Mark Davis is planning to speak with Jim Harbaugh this morning.
Yup....Rex Ryan rumored to be in line for HC in ATL
If I recall correctly, he was a finalist for the job last time around.
@RapSheet: The #Bears have fired GM Phil Emery, source says.
@JayGlazer: Marc Trestman was just fired as well
This is a sad day in Packer land.
they still have VaJayJay at QB! good times, good times.
lol
@MrIrrelevantDC: All three NFL coaches that have already been fired today had more success than any Redskins coach in 23 years.
@JasonLaCanfora: Look for Jack Del Rio to emerge in OAK, ATL to contact Rex, SF to approach Jim Mora, several teams request Adam Gase. M. Shanahan wants Chi
Smith and Harbaugh are my favorites for CHI.
I hope Todd Bowles, the DC for Arizona, gets a few serious opportunities to interview for an HC gig. He's paid his dues.
Packer killer.
It's going to be interesting to see if Darrel Bevell and Dan Quinn in Seattle do some road tripping the next week interviewing for some of these openings. Does Pete let them? Does he let them interview into the following week?
That's the benefit of having coaches like Moss, Slocum, and Zook. The phone never rings unless it's someone looking for tickets.

Very true my man.
8 mil per year for college football coach??? anyone besides me think that's just wrong? what are we trying to teach here? ridiculous
Former Bear QB Jim Miller was just on the local radio station (670 the Score), and he's also the pre-game and post game guy on television. He's pretty much ripped the Bears and Cutler for the majority of the season. So I would say he's definitely NOT a Bears shill. But guess who he suggested the Bears hire as the next head coach?
JimDouche Schwartz-hole!! He cited how well he built the Lions D and what he was able to do to Rodgers a few weeks ago in Buffalo. The two co-hosts laughed at the suggestion and then continued to laugh after the segment!

Packers front office gets picked clean though. I wonder if they did a two for one deal on coaches if it would help move the inventory?
After the defenses Trestman put on the field I can understand Miller wanting to get back to CHI football.
I know he's already been linked to ATL but wouldn't Rexy be the perfect fit for CHI?
There would be a lot of comparisons to...
And maybe he doesn't want to go up against his brother twice a year in ATL?
Ummm, pretty certain Rob Ryan will not be on the Saints' sideline next season.
From Bears reporter: Bears will owe Marc Trestman pay for next 2 seasons. It is my understanding coordinators have contracts thru 2015 season.
See that's one of the perks of playing in a large market. You can keep paying for your mistakes and never really worry about running out of money. So they've got that going for them.
The McCaskey's worry about running out of money all the time. That's why they're pretty stingy with it. It's no secret they are one of the more frugal franchises in the NFL.
It just amazes me that Adam Gase continues to be a hot candidate. Manning damn near runs the offense himself and is surrounded with solid talent as well. If I'm a GM with any damn brains I pass on the stuffed shirt OC on a John Fox coaching staff and just offer Manning a coaching job when he retires.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Dang it....
The Bears still have Cutler though...right???
