I really don't know what to make of all this.   I do know that if they win at Carolina, people will say it motivated them.   If they lose, people will say I told you there were problems and it will create more drama.

Nip it in the bud and kick some ass on Sunday.

I think there is a difference between a good team playing well for a while and having an off day, and a good team not playing well for a while and having an off day.  DEN wasn't just a blip on the radar, it was the biggest blip along a series of them.

So you're saying they're ****ed? I mean that seriously. I'm just looking for clarification. I hit my effin head in the shower this AM.

Good lord, some of the media is acting like they lost the Super Bowl.

We're going to find out exactly what this team is made of on Sunday. I think they're going to make the rest of the league very scared.

1 loss. But taking it very hard. RT : Interview with Randall Cobb speaks volumes. Especially at 2:20:

Does the rest of the league include Denver?

CAR is a very good team, and so is GB. No matter what happens, both teams will remain such after this contest, unless the Packers get blown out like they were in DEN.  We all want to see improvement and a win. But, back to back undefeated opponents this far into the season is unheard of.

I think we win this one. If not, I hope heads won't explode off fans' shoulders, and I hope last weeks complete flop was an anomaly.

We blew this team out last season. They remember that. Should be a close game this time.

He lost me when he worked his dog pooping in the yard into his Packer twitter feeds...and every other post about how cute his kids are...and how wonderful his wife is...and how great it was to get an apron for Fathers day. (ok I made that one up)

Geez I wonder why a locker room full of alpha dogs  wouldn't just love everything this Beta F'tard writes.

I pretty much stick to his columns, and think his reporting may be the best, covering games. Seems on the lazy side covering TC. I've seen some of that same Twitter stuff and totally agree. It tends to drive a fan away.

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy met with the media Friday morning for the final time before his team departs for this weekend's game at the Carolina Panthers. Here are some highlights of his conversation.

On being on a regular schedule: Definitely. It’s good to be on a seven-day schedule. I actually liked the schedule last week, going up to Denver and practicing. I liked the way it worked out. A seven-day work week is obviously preferred.

On Sam Shields: Sam is getting better. This will be a big day for him. This is the S.T.A.A. day designed to give everybody a boost going into Sunday.

On whether Shields could play Sunday: I hope so.

On whether Shields needs to practice during the week to play in the game; I would say I would not need him to participate tomorrow, because we have history together. There’s hoops he needs to jump through, and he has not done that yet. It’s clearly in the hands of the medical team right now.

On Charles Tillman: Yeah, Charles Tillman, really for being in the NFC North for 10 years, he’s personally one of my favorite players to watch on the other side of the field. His instincts, the family man that he is, what he does in the community.

On Quinten Rollins’ neck injury: I don’t think it’s serious. Once again, I think any time you’re dealing with the neck, there’s definitely a high level of caution. This is the first time we’ve gone through an injury with Q. so we’re just being smart.

On Randall Cobb: He’s a winner. He wants to win. He’s an extremely passionate young man. He goes about everything the right way.

On Ty Montgomery’s status Sunday: I was optimistic yesterday watching him return kickoffs. He’s getting better.

On Clay Matthews’ ankle injury: Clay’s getting better.

On having full offense together on the field: That’s pro football. You have injuries each and every year. Yes, I would like to make tough decisions every week on the 53 and 46, but this is how it goes. We need to be productive and win with the players that are out there. That’s always our approach.

Context, my good man.  Mine was a response to some other comments that were likening the loss to DEN to other losses in other years, like last year to NO.  I was saying the loss to DEN further exposed some problems that have been developing with the team over the last several weeks, which is different than last year when the loss was more of an anomaly.

I don't see anywhere I suggest they're "screwed", unless of course they don't figure things out - shore up the D and get back to GB football on O.  They are surely capable.

I think it has been plain as day to see our offense has not been working at a high level for weeks, and our D has struggled facing Rivers & Manning. There should be no mystery there. Calling it out for what it is does no harm.

What are we to expect this week, facing an undefeated Carolina team? It is anybody's guess. Either GB responds, coaches and players alike, and they win, or lose a close one. If they get blown out again, then we may have some bigger problems on our hands.

We have quite a lot to prove this Sunday.

In fairness, the Packers had several major injuries in 2013, including Rodgers’ broken collarbone, Cobb’s broken leg, Matthews’ twice-broken thumb and tight end Jermichael Finley’s career-threatening neck injury. The biggest drop in 2014, was in muscle pull injuries, something that had plagued the Packers in recent years. Players spent Fridays in McCarthy’s STAA program, which had them doing yoga, getting massages and doing other preventative work, and while Rodgers suffered a pulled hamstring at New Orleans on Oct. 26 and a pulled calf at Tampa Bay on Dec. 21, he played through both injuries.

Cam isn't exactly an elite passer and they don't have elite WRs, so I'm less worried about our depth at CB than I was against Denver. I'm interested to see what Gunter does with a little PT or if he is active at all. He may be redshirting this year. It will be interesting to see Goodson out there getting more meaningful time, see what kind of progress he has made.

Pardon my ignorance.....WTF is that???

It's always better than S.T.D. Day.

As far as the Packers go, I want to believe that last week's Denver game was sort of a case of it being just a really bad matchup for the Pack and just a case of a bad day.  The Patriots had a game similar to that one vs. the Chiefs last season where Tom Brady looked like a bum and there were even questions to Bill Belichick about whether Jimmy Garopalo might get more playing time in the future... Well, the Pats won the damn Super Bowl, so the moral of the story is... 1 really really bad day is not a death blow.

Last week should have been a wakeup call though that the Pack needs a lot of work to get ready for a playoff gauntlet at the end of the year.  Let's hope the Pack responds positively to the wakeup call, and let this Carolina game be something that spurs the Pack onto bigger things later.

Audio: (two best of the week, imo. No tabloid nonsense, just football)

11/06/15: Eric Baranczyk on the Bill Michaels Show

McCarthy Unplugged

  • He evaluates games more by the Packers' play style than anything else.  Mentioned initiating contact and finishing.
  • His father ingrained in him the principle of being aggressive and when his team isn't it bothers him (the inflection in his voice when he says it is notable)
  • Sounds like he wasn't happy with the tempo getting in and out of the huddle in the last game.
  • Grit is the X factor
  • They've adjusted something with the in game operations.  Said he'll talk about it more on Monday. Looking back says he might have asked too much of Tom Clemons.
  • Need to get to the concepts they've spent a lot of time on in practice.
  • MM talks about how much he likes Tuesdays; enjoyed it even more when he was building a plan  for the offense, likes to tell stories in the long meetings.
  • The best communicators are those who listen
  • praises public relations director Jason Wahlers.
  • talks about how tough it is to decide the 46 on game day.  Says he has to watch using his gut feelings when he picks the final 46 particularly with special teams.
