Exactly. Hopefully this will be the start of an avalanche where soon we don't even care who's gay and who isn't in sports - which we shouldn't anyway, since it doesn't freaking matter.

Pretty gay post.
I'm all for gay QB's......just not my QB.....

Kinda like with a son. Big Grin

Honestly, if there was a high-profile player equipped to handle it, it would be him.

I'm sure there are many who already don't, and I understand where you were coming from with that comment. To me, it just doesn't matter what a persons sexual orientation is.

Jason Collins becomes the first pro athlete of any consequence to say he's gay.

The fallout will be very minimal, as I've predicted for years. He'll get some minor guest spots and maybe even some endorsements. Also, now that the first has come out, it'll be a parade the next couple years.

As for Collins, he'll be nearly anonymous as soon as a couple months from now.

I used to read the comments for articles to see what the average person thought about controversial issues but most who comment hold extreme views on one side or the other.

To me it's interesting that most pro athletes are African Americans, a segment of society that largely for religious reasons has a negative view of homosexuality. For that reason I assumed that the first gay pro athlete would come out in baseball rather than football or basketball.
Collins crossed the Rubicon with his "outing," and probably took all of American professional sports with him.

Public reaction will determine how quickly other gay athletes do the same, but fast or slow, it's gonna happen.
Not to sound crass or whatever, but I don't really care what an athlete's sexuality is.

I don't understand these kinds of announcements. I don't see the relevance.

"Here I am, don't persecute me"? You're the one who brought it up!

Glad to see Commissioner Stern is standing behind him.

Oh, god, I could hit that one in so many different directions. But out of respect for the moment, I'll just say that this was a very brave thing to do. Good for him. And yeah, I had a lot of respect for David Stern's public response.

I wonder who'll be the first to follow him out, and from which major sport. I'm going to guess NFL, and I'll further go out on a limb and say it probably will not be Tim Tebow.
