Rodgers said it in the post-game... The Bears were rolling coverage to Adams/Cobb, and that left Jones/Rodgers in several one-ones. They were challenging them to throw elsewhere, and #12 made them pay by either pinpointing an seemingly impossible pass or running for chunks himself.

This, and we saw it last year when Adams had his big games. I doubt Jones quite ranks as "solid" these days (though still a strong "decent"), but he's still a NFL-caliber receiver and with Rodgers and one-on-one vs. less than stellar DBs that's still a matchup win.

What happened yesterday plays right into the thinking of MM.  How much did any rookie play yesterday?  Yes the 2 rookie DBs, Rollins and Randall saw quite a bit of action but we saw very little of Montgomery, Gunter, Jake Ryan, Ripkowski and Backman except on special teams.  MM will always play vets when possible so I'm not surprised MM had Jones involved as much as he was. TT only makes players available, it's up to MM as to how they are used.

It's kind of funny ammo, but you really have to stop yourself (myself) sometimes as a fan, and think like a player. They've got a lot invested in this, and they are going to want to go with the players who have been there before. You are right. This staff really sticks to this. Sometimes too much for my liking, but you do see it from the best coaches around the NFL.

Remember how long it took to get Adams involved last year? That was all coaches decision. I think they wanted to ease Ha Ha into the D a bit more, but had no choice but to start him.

I try to think like a coach.  No matter it be high school or college with freshmen or pros with rookies, coaches 90% of the time want experience 1st. Sometimes there is a young guy that is so outstanding they play a lot.  But MM rarely thinks that way. Been watching him for 10 years now.

I still can't believe it really. Amazing turn of events for this Packers team, to get such a competent, consummate professional, well versed in our system to land in our laps. Great to have James Jones back. Get another ring, man!!!!

i hope TT and MM realize they have another driver on their hands and don't let him go next year.  let him retire a packer.  Even if Davante and Montogmery step up I'd rather have JJ as the #5-6 than some young guy.

Yup, and their saying Victor Cruz may well miss the first 4 weeks.

You kind of get spoiled out here in Green Bay, because you have so much success. So you realize not to take things for granted, because it is hard to win in this league. - James Jones

I think we all need to remember this statement & appreciate the team we have. Even though our run defense sucks ass & tackling blows. Warts & all. Enjoy the wins because the other guys are getting paid too.

VRENTAS: You had a great day Sunday. Some of the catches you made, it didn’t even look like you were open. Does that speak to the trust that exists between you and Aaron Rodgers?

JONES: Definitely. Me and him are communicating so much 24/7, whether it is on the practice field or off the practice field, in meetings and constantly during the game. He is a special quarterback; he is truly one of the best to ever do it.

But I always tell him, it’s okay to throw it up every now and then and give us a chance to go get it. Because he is such a perfectionist, he wants every ball to be perfect. I tell him, God has blessed us with an ability, too, just like he has blessed you with one. Give us an opportunity to go up there and make a play.

And when he does do that, you want to capitalize on it. When you make plays like that, all you do is gain trust from him. If you gain trust from your quarterback, he is going to keep coming back to you and believing that you are going to make a play for him.

Love that JJ tells Rodgers he doesn't have to be perfect because the receivers are talented as well because it takes some pressure off AR. Most of all, I appreciate JJ for his professionalism:

(On being let go by Oakland

"'When I went in there and I talked to Reggie [McKenzie], he said, ‘J.J., Jack Del Rio wants to go a different route. He wants to go a little younger and have the receivers grow up with Derek Carr.’ Even though Michael Crabtree is 28 years old. So that was their choice, and I just told them, ‘Thank you for the opportunity. I appreciate everything that you guys have done for me.’ And I walked out the door.'"

From the moment he was a rookie, JJ has always carried himself like a pro and with class. I don't know how many years he has left (he never had much speed and his ability to get separation keeps dwindling), and I hope he gets his wish to finish in GB. But, I think JJ's end in GB will be sooner rather than later.

Yes....AND If jones has a good season it would be surprising to see him not return. Jordy is coming back from two injuries on the same leg. That's not going to be easy.

JJ's coming back depends on a number of things, but I'd say it doesn't look all that good: Jordy will be back (he has almost a year to recover), Cobb is signed, Montgomery should be better as he will know the offense, Adams has proven his worth (that's four). Janis would be a bubble guy (he either gets it by then or he doesn't and he'll go to the Vikes). They seem to like Edwards a lot and on the PS he'll get a chance to learn the system. If Abby is healthy he could be on the 53 for STs and WR; and they are hanging onto Blue and not giving him an injury settlement for a reason. Plus, you just know TT will draft some receiver in the later rounds who they will want to give a chance to develop.

So in the end, where does JJ fit in? Do you keep him as a #5 or choose Abby/Blue/Edwards/Janis as the #5? Given TT's D&D philosophy, he'd probably lean toward keeping a younger guy.

TT is nothing if not a Laplander.

@ByRyanWood: Was James Jones good signing? #Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has completed 12-14 passes thrown to him for 219 yards, 4 TDs, PERFECT 158.3 rating.

@ByRyanWood: #Packers WR James Jones is the only receiver in NFL with double-digit targets and a perfect QB rating on those targets.

Jones has said in recent interviews he wants to be like Donald Driver. As in stay and retire as a Packer.

Who wouldn't want that with AR as your QB?

I'm all for the young guys, but how do you not reward production like that?

Don't think it sends a good message to the vets.

I wonder how the Packers would be looking right now if they hadn't been able to re-sign Jones.  I don't think there's anything to lose from continuing to keep a savvy veteran like Jones on the roster... especially if it keeps Rodgers happy and productive.

@CoryJennerjohn

Victor Cruz will never be the same after reinjuring his calf. The James Jones decision really hurts now.

Currently #2 in the NFL with 4 TD's.  Giants fans are beyond .

Cannot stress enough what a perfect storm pick up this was.

I am SO glad we got JJ back!   Although I understand the philosophy that's it's better to get rid of a player too early rather than too late, it also takes a year (or 2) for a rook to work into system.  With that said, I've been pleasantly surprised at how fast Montgomery is getting it.   Janis has been a little disappointing (except as a gunner on ST).

But I was worried that we were getting rid of JJ too early, and he's obviously still got great chemistry with AR.  I also felt the same about Jennings.  Yes, his sister is an obnoxious loudmouth, but man, he and AR had fantastic chemistry.  Of course, I don't know a lot about behind closed-door conversations, but everytime I look at the 2011 season video highlights, he not only played superbly, but he also seemed very tight with MM and AR.  Seemed like a team guy, not a me-first guy.  Yes, he's done nothing on other teams, but I think he had enough speed and chemistry with AR that it might have been wise to have kept him a little longer.  Of course, I'm totally ignoring the $ factor here, as I don't recall cap numbers, nor do I remember if he was demanding lots more money (greed).  It could be that that was the issue that caused the parting of ways.

But just think about it:  With Jordy out and Adams hurt, if we didn't have Cobb (who is NOT 100%), JJ, and Montgomery (making Great strides as a rook), we'd be in sad shape.  We'd be doing many predictable screens to running backs and some passes to Richard Rodgers.

It's why you don't draft for need.  Who would've guessed we would have a need at WR this year?

JJ did more than "nothing" when he was in OAK.  Had a pretty solid year with a green QB.  I think his speed is gone though.  Luckily he doesn't need much with AR throwing into his pockets.

Was JJ's speed ever a strong suit? Over the years he's worked hard to become a crafty and savvy receiver. He probably has learned to understand his shortcomings as a player and worked on accenting his strong points. That quality along with the chemistry within the system and with Rodgers is really quite invaluable.

He's been an absolute joy to watch thus far, and hopefully moreso once Adams gets healthy and the full complement of offensive weapons are at AR's disposal.
