McDaniels - I don’t get the love for this guy. His first head coaching stint was a failure, he screwed the Colts over before this season, and he comes from the Belichick coaching tree, which has been a shockingly unsuccessful tree.

I’ve been an MM supporter until very recently, but I do think it’s time for a change. He’s lost his team, and most importantly, his star QB.  I don’t blame MM for AR’s shitty playing this season though. I find it hard to believe that MM only called four running plays during the second half.....or that he’s calling for long passes on every third and short.....or that it’s his fault that AR has to waste timeouts because he can’t get a play off in time.

MM has made some mind boggling dumb decisions in the last several seasons, and his offense has grown stale. I guess it’s time for new blood. Hopefully a new coach will help our all-world-Superman-GOAT QB pull his head out of his ass and start trying again.

What's amazing to me is that NFL coaches are calling or visiting Lincoln Riley to get ideas. They are calling to talk shop and learn new ideas....the guy is brilliant. This is not something you would have thought could happen in the past with the huge difference between the college and pro games. Not any more !! Guys like Doug Peterson, Josh McDniels are known to pick Rileys brain.

Have a sneaking suspicion that Mike McCarthy is not one of the coaches visiting Norman. He's happy running plays out of the 80s WC Offensive Paul Hackett playbook. Ugh

I also find it interesting that for the entire game, which GB led until 5:08 in the fourth, that only 12 runs were called and as many have said, only four in the second half. What coach does that? Or what QB changes to call his own number that much? When MM is done, I would like to hear what happened but I know he is (probably) too nice a guy to tell all.

And that game when we were ahead in the fourth and the throws kept coming made me long for Holmgren, who always talked about gut-wrenching four-minute drives or longer to kill clock/game. Would I love to see a four- or eight-minute drive now in any game!

The coach we have.

Do we know if McStubbornBottoms only called 12 runs, or is AR changing the plays after reading the defense?

As conservative as MM is, Seems he’d be more balanced....especially now that he has a capable RB.

β€œI actually called 27 running plays during the game but my GD know-it-all QB keeps switching to pass plays because he’s the smartest guy in the stadium!...and then he ignores the easy first down pass and either takes a sack or throws a dirt ball because the ball β€œstuck to my hands!””

.....Words you’ll never hear MM say.

My head coach really comes up with intelligent and great gameplans. He is constantly innovating, putting new wrinkles in, and staying ahead of the talented defensive coordinators in the game. He's not one to sit on his laurels and simply lean on the things that worked years ago and consider that a strategy.

- Words you'll never hear Aaron Rodgers say.

Pissants like Riley come to GB to pick the brain of the master...

As for Rodgers changing the call, I feel ”most” here can tell 75% of the time or more when a play has been changed especially if you watch the same team every week for for years.  If anything, I would suggest Rodgers has checked out of a call less this year than any in recent past.

I would also suggest that even given that we watch the Packers every week and not every other team, the Packers play calling is predictable, their formations often limit the possibilities of what they can (or will) rub out of them.  When was the last time they successfully ran a play that you said β€œdidn’t see that coming” and ask yourself which game (except maybe Dolphins and Bills) that you could say that of the other team (granted most of us don’t know other teams tendancies as well.

We all knew that Wilson was dangerous with the read option but Seattle kept it in their pocket until the right situation and then made that first down at the end.  MM is as always has been incapable of these kinds of moves, he is strong in other ways.

My point is that if MM is calling run plays and AR is reading the defense and then switching to a pass play, you’re never gonna hear MM complain about it to the media.  He doesn’t throw his players under the bus. Instead, you’ll get the canned β€œwe do what we do”.....which is exactly how it should be handled.

That was exactly my point. I wish I knew who was calling what, but I doubt we ever will. MM is too much of a pro, and Rodgers... well, maybe we'll have to read (squint) between the lines to get any idea.

1. BB first HC stint was a failure too

2. McDaniels clearly shows his ability to scheme and be creative every week on offense

3. BB coaching tree has failed - but Vrabel is about to change that direction. Patricia is too early to judge.  The failures have clearly been with the two old fat men. Certainly need a young fit coach.

4. At least his first name isn't Mike...but his last does start with "Mc" which is a strike against him.

5. Would McDaniels be an improvement over McCarthy? If yes, then he should be considered.

6 weeks ago Frank Reich decided to go for a 4th and 3 from his own 43 in OT after the Colts and Texans traded OT FGs. Colts failed to pick up the 1st. Texans ran a few plays, kicked a FG and won the game.

Afterwards Frank was asked if he’d like a do-over. β€œAbsolutely not. I’d go for it again 10 times out of 10. That’s how we’re going to be as a team. We’re going to be aggressive”

Colts responded and are quickly becoming a team everyone in the AFC needs to be worried about. They are laying waste to the Titans today.

Mike decided to punt on 4th and short with 4 minutes left on 3 days rest flying 2,000 miles after playing 3 games in 10 days because β€œhe looked at the numbers”..... he thought his defense was a better option in the above scenario than Aaron Rodgers.

No idea how Mike is still employed.

Mike McCarthy is still employed for the same reasons Ted Thompson, Dom Capers, and Shawn Slocum lasted as long as they did and for the same reason Ron Zook has lasted as long as he has since he took over from Slocum.

The Packers, with Aaron Rodgers basically guaranteeing the organization a playoff berth in the perennially mediocre NFC North over the last several years, have been absolutely content with just being better than average.

Now, with the fan base no longer satisfied and the national press constantly noting McCarthy's failures the team will undoubtedly move on from him after this season.

Until then, the "classy" Packer organization and the lapdog Wisconsin press will continue to focus on our "highly successful coach's" good times.

Now, after McCarthy gets ushered out of 1265 Lombardi we might finally start hearing some truth about what really went on these last several years, just like we are now hearing that the team's roster was being selected by a guy who apparently checked out mentally years before he was dumped after the 2017 season.

Outlet is there, but that's not where the ball is designed to go.   Should Rodgers see that yes.   Should MM make life for everyone on offense easier by calling plays designed to pick up 5 yards instead of 20 on 3rd n 3.  Yes.

Rodgers didn't throw the ball to him because that kind of throw is for the "checkdown Charlie" QB's like Alex Smith, not those like the great Aaron Rodgers who push the ball down the field into tight coverages so we can stand in awe of the throw.  Rodgers certainly knew he was there because he knows where every potential receiver should be......after all, as he always reminds us, a receiver need to "gain his trust" that they will be in the right place before he will deign to throw them the ball.

Perfect!
