There is no guarantee that Murphy will hire the correct coach to get us back to the SB.  There is also no guarantee that Gutie would be able to so either.  (given the opportunity).  However, Murphy certainly has more experience interviewing/hiring coaches.  It's not as though Murphy is going to half ass this search because he doesn't really care.

Murphy  obviously is not messing..My question is how long long does Gutenkunst get? Thompson and McCarthy had extraordinary success at one time and were both given the boot--and I agree with those moves-Gutenkunst does not have that resume and his first year is not looking so hot. Trading down, getting Alexander and a late first round pick was dynamite. He struck gold in the first round-something Thompson and Wolf struggled with.....the late pick receivers were good solid picks...bringing Morrison in was nice...everything else is pretty rough. No doubt drafts take years to grade and maybe some of these players develop.

The nature of DB play typically mean you know what you have early and maybe Jackson will become  better at safety, but he is not a DB that warrants the #45th pick. He traded several picks to move up to get Burks. Moore has hands of stone---and maybe something happens-Sharpe dropped several his rookie year. Meredith doesn't make the team. Draft a punter that finishes in the bottom third and can't hold a place kick? Graham may have been the worst free agent pick in our history and if you use the Sherman/Joe Johnson grade scale, Wilkerson was a bust. Could Randall have been that cancerous?-You trade him for a QB who makes Hundley look like a star and Randall goes on to have a very solid year at safety for the Browns--the exact player we needed. Not addressing the o-line other than bringing in Bell was puzzling.

If Murphy is shooting from the hip, this guy shouldn't get much time.

You can't call Wilkerson a bust just because he got hurt.  He was playing solid ball before he went down.  I won't write off any rookie, especially considering how this team roster just disintegrated with injuries.  Yeah, Moore looks like he's all thumbs, he may be a mid round Treadwell.  Graham, I don't know.  That whole offense looked like shit including Rodgers.  It wasn't a good signing but I can see why they did it.  It would've been nice if they had a HC that actually knew how to use TE's for something other than a dump off.

Agreed on Opie, could've been another Oline or LB pick.  Also have to remember they literal had a Oline pick walk away.  Considering they were also trying to navigate Rodgers contract I can see why they didn't punch the gas peddle.  It wasn't spectacular but it wasn't horrible either.

Gorkenspiel has been with the Packers since 1999.  That's not nothing.  He worked with Highsmith, Dorsey, Schneider, McKenzie, Sherman (waaa waaaaah), PeeWee Wolf and Thompson.

Still believe this is Gutekunst's final call, but Murphy will be involved. I think what we are seeing now is remants of the power trio set-up. I posted it before and still believe we will see GM Gutekunst running things more and more as they move into 2019 and beyond.

I also think this will be Gute's final call on the hire.  I of course have no insight in to why that power structure was set up but I wonder if it was because MM may have needed a check and balance on his job.

FloridaRob, yes this season was a disaster but I wouldn't totally lay that at Gute's feet.  The guy seemed to had a decent draft and he did what he could to fill a VERY thin roster that TT left him with.

I agree Wilkerson was playing well and I'd like to see him return.  Joe Johnson was a beast-2 x pro bowler....an early injury ended a promising Packer tenure and Sherman was vilified for signing him..so again on the Sherman grade scale it didn't work out...same with Thompson's pick of Rollins-that guy was going to be solid...injuries  ended that dream--and Thompson took heat for it.

not blaming Gute for this disaster. He gets a pass. I thought his draft was excellent. Better than the last few under Thompson. At least there are players contributing that look pretty good. I think Madison walking away affected what his plan was for the offensive line   But we know now that Bell and Mcray are not starters. There are so many holes in this team tho. Interior line, TE, there is no one at safety, and pass rusher from somewhere are major holes. I would think you have to keep Bulaga around one more year. His 6 Million dollar salary is not that bad. Maybe move him inside if Gute can find  a tackle.  Not sure he can fix all those holes by the draft and free agency.

Sherman signed Joe Johnson to a huge contract.  Rollins was a high draft pick. Wilkerson was on a very affordable, one year prove it deal.  That's smart.
