I heard an interesting proposition today. The Texans hire Flores and Watson decides to stay there to play for Flores.

Whoever came up with that proposition is most likely an idiot.
The impasse with Watson is around Jack Easterby, the religious zealot posing as an NFL executive. So long as Easterby is whispering in the ear of owner
Cal the dumbass McNair - Watson won't play there no matter who the HC is.

Watson certainly has his own crap to deal with, but his refusal to play for Houston is tied to the disgraceful owner and his spiritual advisor Jack from Heavens Gate.

Heavens Gate.

Ah yes, the cult of Marshall Applewhite. My youngest is going to the same college Applewhite graduated from. My BiL's parents went there and knew "Herf" from their days on campus. According to "Anne", Bil's mother, Applewhite was a real smooth talker that all the girls wanted to be around.

Firing Easterby was also part of the scenario. I would think they would also need to have Watson's input on the replacement.

But with Watson's legal trouble I don't think they are going to give him that kind of power.

I haven't followed the latest saga around Watson in a while but isn't he under investigation for his actions with massage therapists? I believe that is the main reason the Texans didn't play/activate him all year.

Yes, more importantly it killed any trades. The Dolphins were going to give up a huge package for him but they wanted all legal disputes settled first.

Joe Judge had the audacity, the unmitigated gall to ask for power in choosing the next GM.

The guy is a horrible football coach that has literally accomplished nothing, he's got the personality of a fire hydrant, and his self awareness is less than zero.

But, my god the balls that man has. 6-10 followed by 4-13. The last 2 weeks being an absolute clown show. Stepping on his dick every press conference. But you still can muster the balls to ask for power in hiring the next GM.

Some people are just built different I guess, because that level of ego is absolutely beyond me.

No.
The best I recall, I've used the same moniker since I joined.

I do remember that poster, though. IIRC, he was fairly active for a few years, at least.
Looking back to those archived threads Boris posted makes me wonder whatever happened to some of these guys. Some of the mouth-runners are a dime a dozen, but there were some solid members.
LSU4GB stands out in my mind.

Boris's post brought back many names I had forgotten about.
JJSD anyone?  LOL

Soon to be named Packers Special Teams Coach?  That was his job in New England before the Giants.  Also worked under Saban.

Whenever someone praises a Patriots assistant coach I always wonder how much praise they deserve. They tend to go to other places and fail.

Once they are removed from all the advantages of institutional cheating in NE, they become mortals and consistently fail to meet expectations.

it's weird how all those front office guys who left after gutey got the gm job have sort of faded away.  i recall lots of hand-wringing that doresy, wolf and highsmith all went to the browns.  they all got fired and are now working as "consultants"

Lord this franchise is a dumpster fire …

The #Texans owe David Culley another $17 million over the next three years, per source. So Culley walks away with roughly $22 million for one season as Houston's head coach.

Getting fired by the Browns isn't much condemnation.  Dorsey built most of that team, he just chose in an idiot HC.

I believe "moneyball" is the predominant presence in that organization.

Why?  I've never been a big Elliot Wolf guy.

Wolf is really the bride's maid and never the bride. Dude gets a lot of interviews, and then teams are like "pass" when it comes to pulling the trigger to be GM

Yes and its been rather telling too. Front office guys do many interviews, so getting passed over isn't a big deal in and of itself. But he got passed over in GB where he worked for years and in Cleveland where he had the endorsement of John Dorsey among others. In other words, he had an IN, but ended up OUT

Some of the comments mentioned his bedside manner and general cockiness as turnoffs - especially coming from a youngster

Great eye for talent and scouting, but maybe he's just not GM material - kinda like a coordinator who isn't HC material. Where he may find an opening is if a HC pegs him as a partner the way Shanahan grabbed Lynch, Carroll/Schneider.

Good luck to him

The dream is to be good enough to earn an NFL or college coaching contract, and then bad enough to get fired shortly thereafter.

And if you really do it right,  you manage to land a model girlfriend half your age in the process.

No shit.  How in the world do you judge a coach in one year with a team that has almost no talent.  How about getting rid of the GM?  Dumpster fire indeed.
