Darnold threw for an NFL-best 1,023 yards on deep passes (defined by Next Gen Stats as 20-plus air yards), 157 more yards than No. 2 on that list, Green Bay's Jordan Love. Darnold also led the NFL in deep completions with 28, and tied for the most deep touchdown passes with nine.

Sam Darnold to the promised land πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜„

That Love did that well on deep passes with a massive difference in talent between Vikings WR's vs GB's, that GB WR's were 3rd in the NFL in dropped passes, and that Love was hurt much of the year? That's pretty damn amazing.

And they traded their top-notch deep receiver in the process.

Love IMHO has barely scratched the surface of how good he can be and if he stays healthy and they give him better talent at WR who can stretch the filed and actually catch the ball, Love and this offence can be truly elite.

Wow.  Myers deal is actually 2 million with 0 guaranteed, per overthecap.com.  That's peanuts.

It shows that the entire NFL thinks he is a bust.

Many times armchair GMs criticize guys like Gutey without knowing the entire context when some they pass over someone to draft a player at another position.

In this case, the criticism of drafting Myers over Creed Humphries is entirely justified. Probably the worst decision of Gutey's career in the draft.

Jace Sternberger says β€œhi”.

WR is tricky. Metcalf was the play, but of course Gutekunst didn’t have the cajones to go for it.

They have a young room, sure, but neither Watson nor likely Doubs are durable enough to count on and their contracts are up. Unless Reed and Wicks turn it around in a big way, they could be SOL at receiver in 2026 unless they bring in someone who can start for multiple years, but they want to see what those two can do, as well. Kupp is a poor fit for that scenario.

Amari Rodgers still on hold.

It could be argued that the trade up to draft Amari Rodgers (with WRs Nico Collins and Amon-Ra St. Brown on the board and available) was an even worse move than taking Myers over Humphrey.

Even though Myers is barely hanging on in the league, his career far surpasses what Rodgers did -- anyone remember how horrible Rodgers was returning kicks & losing games like the one in Washington?

And it is not like criticism of the trade up for Amari Rodgers new:

WalterFootball.com gave the Packers a D and the Titans an A for the trade. β€œWhy did the Packers trade up for Amari Rodgers? Did they do it for the memes? Even then, who was going to select Amari Rodgers in between pick Nos. 86-91? It was so odd that they traded up when there were plenty of receivers available of Rodgers' caliber. They basically flushed a fourth-round pick down the toilet. This obviously means the Titans won this trade.”

Gutekunst, obviously, doesn’t care about the grade. He wanted the player he considered drafting in the second round.
