That's how I catch beers when my wife tosses 1 to me from the fridge

Yeah if you don't catch it then you get blasted in the nuts. Similar to making receivers their face in front of where the ball is going, catch it or you get drilled in the face. Do that enough and muscle memory takes over.

Uh oh..... DaVante is tearing it up at practice tonight. Sounds like he's pulling down everything thrown his way.

Spofford:Another spectacular grab by Adams, out leaping Rollins on a bomb from Rodgers. Caught it and held on as hit ground. Wow.

Silverstein: It's Davante Adams night. Goes up high for Rodgers' deep ball, hauls it in and falls on his back on top of DB.

Wilde:And Davante Adams incredible night continues. After one-handed sideline grab, goes up/over Quinten Rollins to reel in Rodgers' 49-yard bomb.

Silverstein: There's the great catch that was missing. Davante Adams with a one-hander on the sideline. Juggled and gathered before going OB. Great catch

Silverstein: Rodgers and Janis having a long discussion during this timeout. Looks like they're discussing how Rodgers wants a route run.

Riunite is available in a box?

From a very untrained eye but Kenny Clark does not let you get your hands on him. Very active with his hands, strong at point of attack

Jeff Janis with a terrific contested, deflected catch on an underthrown deep ball from Brett Hundley against Robertson Daniel, Chris Banjo.

Pretty soon Rodgers is going to start looking for (Geranimo) Allison. Just hit him on a perfectly timed out route. If he's got a drop I missed it.

I've thought the same thing. Very good hands.

He has a mountain of receivers to climb, but I've been impressed with Geronimo Allison. Candidate for practice squad.

I can't wait to see him in live action.

Heck that goes for all the receivers at this point, even Jordy. We don't know for sure he will be the same player right now. Same for Monty.

We also don't know if Abby can keep it up, or if Janis finally knows the playbook, or if Davante is going to be his Rookie self or his Sophomore self.

On guys like Davis and Geronimo, we don't know if they are even NFL material (although they both look like it to me).

To me, the next 3 preseason games are going to be the most interesting I can remember as a Packer fan.

I can't believe I just used the words "preseason" and "interesting" in the same sentence. Lord help me and give 'em hell Geronimo!

Thumbs up

Barclay is off to a noteworthy start. On Monday night, he earned a draw with NT Kenny Clark and beat DE Mike Pennel as a center in the one-on-one drill before stopping the bull rush of OLB Datone Jones from right tackle to earn another decision. It improved his record to 7-2-1 in three installments of the pass-rush drill. He’s 2-0 against DE Mike Daniels, 3-0 against Jones

Thumbs down

There’s little question that Justin Perillo has been far more productive than Backman and, minus Cook, has been the second-best tight end. Free agentsMitchell Henry and Casey Pierce have been at about the same level as Backman as well. The extra fifth exhibition game is critical for someone like Backman. With Hundley expected to thrive in the summer game, there should be opportunities galore for Backman in the flats and downfield. How he responds probably will determine his future.

Bits and pieces

» LT Jason Spriggs zipped through the one-on-one’s with a 3-0 record. A short time later, Spriggs’ deficiencies as a run blocker cropped up when he got rag-dolled by Pennel in a one-on-one.

Good observations on the rookie 1st rounder:

Clark starts fast

First-round pick Kenny Clark is looking like he’ll help the Packers immediately.

The nose tackle does two things that stand out: He keeps his pads low, and he uses his hands well.

A lot of talented defensive linemen get away with sloppy technique in college because they’re bigger and stronger than everyone they face. But the NFL exposes warts.

Jerel Worthy, a Packers second-round pick in 2012, is a perfect example. His main talent was getting a quick jump off the snap, and in college he was quicker and stronger and faster than almost all the offensive linemen he faced. But in the NFL, quarterbacks’ cadences kept him from anticipating the count, and he couldn’t physically dominate the blockers like he did in college. He’s now out of the NFL.

Clark, on the other hand, is good fundamentally along with being talented enough to be a first-round pick. He keeps his pads low, so in half-line run drills and team drills on Family Night you didn’t see him once get pushed out of position. He also kept his hands in tight, so a few times he was able to drive back the blocker two or three yards.

We’ll see as camp goes on and he gets work as a nickel pass rusher how he is getting off blocks and getting up field. But as a nose tackle against the run, he holds his gap well and sometimes gets some push.

It’s rare to see a guy that young (he turns 21 in October) who plays with good technique. And the Packers are going to need him after B.J. Raji’s surprise retirement in the offseason and Mike Pennel’s four-game suspension to start the season.

Issue with Adams has always been maddening inconsistency.

Don't recall that being an issue his rookie year (in his limited opportunities), and it wasn't an issue through the first 3 games in 2015.

I considered this last year when his drops started, but the ankle could have been enough to mess with his concentration. A WR with the drops is simply lacking concentration.

The good news is he is on notice.  DA knows this is his season to shut-up the naysayers....and...of course, earn that new contract.  It's always about the Benjamins.   Hey, is he still on the $100 bill?  or did they put Eleanor Roosevelt on it now?

Adam's contract expires after the 2017 season. So he won't have the contract year incentive in front of him until next year. With that we should all expect him to be the 4th or 5th WR this season. Maybe Thompson brings Myles White back?

Randall has "no issues tackling" when he's put in the slot. That's an extra run defender a lot of times.

How do they know this since there isn't really any true live tackling to the ground done anymore at practice?

I'd assume from actual game film last season. Neither Rollins or Randall struck me as shy or having alligator arms. Ditto with the safeties. Burnett and HHCD are both aggressive tacklers.

I didn't see Randall or Rollins miss many tackles last year.  That was one of the first things that stuck out about them during the early part of the season.  Maybe it will rub off on the rest of the team.

Don't want to get anyone's hopes up but Davante Adams just made another spectacular catch: leaping 49-yard we from Rodgers over Q. Rollins

Wow!! Davante Adams can leap 49 yards?  Why didn't we know this before?

michiganjoe posted:

He basically disappeared between the Patriot game and the playoff game against Dallas. He's always been hot and cold and struggled with consistency.

You say "always" like this is a pattern over his long career though. He was a rookie in 2014, had a sophomore slump in 2015, and now he's in year 3 when things should be clicking. Many fans don't seem to have patience with players any longer, rookies adjusting to the NFL and sophomore slumps (or slumps in general) appear to be unacceptable to some. He's in year 3 of learning one of the most complex offenses in the NFL and was dogged with injuries last year, I cut him some slack. Same goes for any other young player, we've been lucky enough to have some young players have it click right away (Shields, CM3, Raji, Randall, Rollins, etc.), but that's not always the case in the NFL. Some guys it takes longer to click. People forget it took it took guys like Jordy, Jennings, ARodg, Finley, and others a couple years to get the hang of things before they were productive. Wasn't Jordy plagued by drops early in his career and especially in 2010 (dropped a sure TD in the SB if I recall). Janis deserves the same patience.
