Last year I wanted to think we should go offense with every pick because I was under the impression that it didn't matter if we drafted Reggie White and Deaon Sanders.   Just load up on offense and try to outscore everyone.    When it came down to it, I was begging for Watt on draft day.

I imagine It will play out for me the same way this year..

As far as a high pick on WR, I think we need to promote Gmo.   Despite the fumble and the inability to quit smoking weed, I think he has a lot of potential.   I'd focus on OL early if the prospects are there because as #12 ages he is going to get less agile and more fragile.   Priority #1 should be to protect the franchise.

I think that this year's draft will depend on our D-coordinator.  If we make a change, do we have the players to play a 4-3?  Will we have to stick with the     3-4?

They really need a solid/good perimeter WR.  That used to be 87, 17 can do some things there.  But 87 and 18 are now slot guys and Adams can only do so much.  They need a guy that can pull coverage out of the middle of the field.  81 almost looked like he might be developing in that direction early in the season but kind of went AWOL.  And everyone knows he's not going to take anybody deep.  It's a lot to heap on an UDFA basketball player but I would really like to see what Clark can do in the next 2 weeks.

Here are a few prospects with speed and some size to keep an eye out for during the bowl season:

Antonio Callaway, FL

Parris Campbell, OSU

Christian Kirk, TA&M

Equanimeous Brown, ND

Courtland Sutton, SMU

I'm in the Courtland Sutton camp, for sure. This guy is amazing at going up and grabbing the ball. Another guy I'd love to see in the Green and Gold is DJ Chark from LSU.

Looks like he'll be shooting up the draft boards and may go higher than we pick.  But then again, I don't think TT would value any WR enough to take him in RD1 much less top half of RD1 anyway.

Mr Tundra stole my thunder when it came to next tier WR's with DJ Chark.  In the Alabama game he was uncover able  .  I kept thinking with 12 throwing that ball he scores about 5 times.   Arden Key was the other guy I had a man crush on that game but he is like a Ferrari you only get to drive him twice a month and I am not sure TT would invest a top 15 pick in a part time player!

This is TT we are talking about and it would never surprise me if he goes for something like a WR in RD1.

DOCBENNI brings up a good point if the Packers were to make a change at DC and the new guy brings in a 4-3 instead of a 3-4 that might change the whole draft strategy.  Personally, I say after OL I would draft defense, defense, some defense, more defense, and when in doubt I would draft defense.

Accept that TT does not necessarily draft players for particular positions, i.e. all the converted players that have mostly flamed out, especially edge players.  So it may not matter.

TT does not draft WR's in RD1.  He prefers to find them in 2 and 3.  He seems to value the big men more in RD1.  I think he really needs blue chipper edge rusher this year.  The rest he can pick up after.

Never stopped him before!

Sutton will be gone in round one. We may have an opportunity to grab Chark or Key or Gallup  in the second round, then.

We don't have the guys to play a 3-4 now.

Not directed at anyone in particular...

With all the calls for firing/retiring Dom, do we know if the bulk of the current D roster would be better in a 3-4 or 4-3? I ask, because it seems to me that much of what Dom does with the Elephants, Nitro packages etc... is not that far from a 4-3.

I think it is time for Dom to move on. The message has gotten stale.

Another tweet linked a possible reference for that tweet. Sometimes, you have to read between the lines.

I remember last year when the Queens d-backs decided they didn't like the Zimmer plan and Jordy ripped them apart until they figured out maybe the coach had a plan and freelancing wouldn't work.

According to MM this morning Spriggs suffered “a serious knee injury” last night. Headed directly to IR.

I fully expect to see some early picks used on OL. Need a RT and a guy that can swing G or T in the draft.

That might be it for Spriggs in GB. He probably won't be ready until 2019.

They need WR or TE before OL on offense. Actually, they may need 2 TEs, 2 WRs, OT, and OG.

Packers up to 15th pick, with a real chance of surpassing the 7-8 Redskins (who play the woeful Giants next week), the 6-9 Dolphins (who play the Bills at home next week and can win that game and the Pack moves head at 7-9 based on strength of schedule), and to a lesser extent the 7-8 Cardinals (who play at the Seahawks who may already be out of the playoffs by game time).

This assumes the Pack does not pick up a meaningless victory over the Lions next Sunday.

you know we are going to beat the loins next week.  nothing for draft position works with the packers.  on another note, can we have a live draft position as teams win/lose?  I don't know how to do that, but if I did, I would do it.  maybe update the one on page 1 of this every week/game?

This should be a critical few weeks for Murphy, because he needs to decide if his GM who has drafted and missed the past six years with 1st round draft picks on defense (exception Clark) and refuses to meaningfully play in free agency should be entrusted with rebuilding this team.  With the number of picks in the upper round, we can't afford any more misses on "athletes" with injury histories or promising stories like TT has picked.  It would be surprising if TT is let go ("retires") but I don't think it's out of the question.   If one were to judge TT solely on his last six years, he's done a lousy job.

Movin' on up and into the top 15 now. Order as of the end of week 16:

I'm hoping TT uses some draft picks to move up to get an additional 1st round pick. I'd love to see a top notch WR fall to us and then also pick up an OT or a Pass Rusher with our other pick. Wishful thinking.

Don't disagree that some of the packages aren't that far off a 4-3 but that's part of the problem; a 3-4 that's a supposed mastermind, jack of all trades defense.  If the elephant formations are more a "traditional" 4-3 while playing strictly man in the backfield no wonder they get beat like a drum against spread formations.

It's not so much the alignment choice, it's the fact the defense is just a hodge podge of wizardy.   Pick a stable defense young guys can play effectively without having to get a Ph.D.

In today's NFL, no team is all 3-4 vs 4-3. Most of the top defenses are hybrid 3-4 or 4-3's and mix it up. That might be part of Dom's problem. His bread n' butter defense is a pure 3-4. And that's not today's NFL anymore. Probably a reason opposing offensive players are telling guys like Randall, CMIII, and HHCD that they "know exactly" what Dom's going to do.

I don’t subscribe to the thinking offenses know what Doms going to do. I say this based on Doms defenses not knowing what they’re doing to begin with.

I do think offenses know if they get the right defensive personnel on the field for GB there is enough tape to know how to create communication breakdowns in the secondary.

Which goes back to Henry’s point that the defense needs a stable plan with really clear responsibilities.

It's a abundantly clear it's time to reload the oline.  While a skill guy would be nice there's still enough juice in Jordy along with Adams for another year.  A refreshed oline with Rodgers, insta great WR.  It would also help the budding run game as well.  Outside of oline, I have no idea what this team "needs".  It apparently doesn't seem to matter with this coaching staff.

Wouldn't mind seeing them use a late-round pick on a QB. Backup position desperately needs an upgrade.
