LOL the one guy that we all universally agreed would not be a good pick. Rashan Gary is already uniting Packer fans! 3 things I like:

1) he just turned 21 so there’s plenty of opportunity to grow and mature

2) his athleticism is top notch, so you’re starting with a raw canvas for Montgomery to mold, who is getting good play from lesser talents

2) he doesn’t have to play right away, so he can be a rotational guy and gain some confidence

There are things to like. He wept pretty intensely though.

He was crying because he knows he's about to be outted once he shows up in GB.  Sorry ass pick.

I don't like it.  You just want to see more production from a guy like him in college.  My gut reaction is that he'll be a rotational guy his whole career, the kind of guy that will hang around the league for 10+ years but won't ever find a home because he just never puts it all together but keeps getting chances because he's so good athletically.  And his athleticism will keep him from being a bust but he'll never realize his potential.

That said, I'm going to try and be positive.  He does have some versatility to rush from the outside and inside.  He's young, so it's not far fetched to say he can still develop his football awareness.  He'll be a rotational guy for at least a year so still has time to develop.  Sack totals can be misleading, so maybe it's not telling the whole story on his production.  The guy was coached by Harbaugh in college so he's not going to be afraid of NFL coaching.  He was a 5 star recruit from a big program so is not just a combine warrior.

If he works out, it's a great pick.  But definitely high risk, high reward.

It’s a gamble, the upside is a Terrell Suggs type versatile talent...4.58 at 277 lbs! I assume he’s going to play OLB, physically he’s reminiscent of the Smiths, he may slim down a little.

All snark and vitriol aside, I can see that there is potential there, and you hope that Jim Harbaugh and one of the best defenses in the country just I guess didn’t know how to use him?  Or something?

I get that everything is a gamble. This feels like an unnecessary gamble with the 12th overall pick when you already spent a ton of money on D during FA and, most importantly, you are dreadfully thin on the OL which is protecting your franchise.

I mean jesus christ, are they EVER going to take an offensive play maker in the first round again?? 7 straight years of a defensive player and let's just keep ignoring offensive weapons. I mean, cripes, why didn't they try to trade up for Hock?? I'm so pissed

History shows you don't take WR, RB and TE in round 1 and win championships.  Last few Super Bowl winners didn't build their teams that way; they build in the trenches and secondary.  Now is Gary the right guy in the trenches?  I'm leaning no.

I place my faith in Gute's hands.

We have to trust their Gute instinct.

Kid gets a year to work in as Daniels works... out.  Adds speed.  I didn't know about the shoulder and that bugs me, another Justin screams at my soul, but dammit. . .   I hope they know more than me, which they should.  I would have liked OL.  BUT, to trade anywhere, you need another dance partner.  Many fans assume too much.  There may have been no reasonable offers for that dance card.

Another piece for Mike Pettine.
