Did they even bother to interview gary?
Tschmack posted:Gary did not always play with a lot of effort despite having good talent
Awesome
Thatβs the kind of pick you make at 30 not 12
More like 5th round.
I'd rather re-draft Justin Harrell.
Any feedback on Pack at #12????? Damn, this is like a Brewers at Marlins Thread. crickets
I am ok with the pick. Definety solidifies the d line. Now go get an offensive player
Grave Digger posted:LOL the one guy that we all universally agreed would not be a good pick. Rashan Gary is already uniting Packer fans! 3 things I like:
1) he just turned 21 so thereβs plenty of opportunity to grow and mature
2) his athleticism is top notch, so youβre starting with a raw canvas for Montgomery to mold, who is getting good play from lesser talents
2) he doesnβt have to play right away, so he can be a rotational guy and gain some confidence
There are things to like. He wept pretty intensely though.
He was crying because he knows he's about to be outted once he shows up in GB. Sorry ass pick.
They should have chosen another way to honor TT rather than letting him make the pick.
I mean jesus christ, are they EVER going to take an offensive play maker in the first round again?? 7 straight years of a defensive player and let's just keep ignoring offensive weapons. I mean, cripes, why didn't they try to trade up for Hock?? I'm so pissed
Tschmack posted:Heβs a top 5 talent
Actual production is more like bottom 1st round
That's being generous. Could be Jamal Reynolds 2.0.
Make sure you have a shoulder injury coming our of college and the Packers will pick you in the 1st Rd. He and King can rehab together.
1 pick in and I'm already pissed for the rest of the draft.
I place my faith in Gute's hands.
Itβs a gamble, the upside is a Terrell Suggs type versatile talent...4.58 at 277 lbs! I assume heβs going to play OLB, physically heβs reminiscent of the Smiths, he may slim down a little.
Jon Gruden: Look at this moronic pick
Brian Gutekunst: Hold my beer
Blind faith is foolish. Gary ain't worth a damn.
I like Haskins
I don't like it. You just want to see more production from a guy like him in college. My gut reaction is that he'll be a rotational guy his whole career, the kind of guy that will hang around the league for 10+ years but won't ever find a home because he just never puts it all together but keeps getting chances because he's so good athletically. And his athleticism will keep him from being a bust but he'll never realize his potential.
That said, I'm going to try and be positive. He does have some versatility to rush from the outside and inside. He's young, so it's not far fetched to say he can still develop his football awareness. He'll be a rotational guy for at least a year so still has time to develop. Sack totals can be misleading, so maybe it's not telling the whole story on his production. The guy was coached by Harbaugh in college so he's not going to be afraid of NFL coaching. He was a 5 star recruit from a big program so is not just a combine warrior.
If he works out, it's a great pick. But definitely high risk, high reward.
Season's over.
Seems like they could have gotten Gary at 30 or even 44. Really wanted Sweat or Dillard....or even another corner in William's at 12. Now they'll try to plug in an underachiever.
What, did Gutekunst look at the Raiders and Giants and say "hold my beer"?!?!
Wasn't Alexander an injury concern last year?
Reminds me of the move the Saints made last year to take Marcus Davenport. Freaky athletes with high upside, but his bust potential. Weβll see, hard to be excited though.
Someone send pakrz a Gary packer jersey
How in the flying fukk do you take Rashan Gary over Jawaan Taylor or Montez Sweat? Are Gute and the dumdums sleep walking at 1265????

All snark and vitriol aside, I can see that there is potential there, and you hope that Jim Harbaugh and one of the best defenses in the country just I guess didnβt know how to use him? Or something?
I get that everything is a gamble. This feels like an unnecessary gamble with the 12th overall pick when you already spent a ton of money on D during FA and, most importantly, you are dreadfully thin on the OL which is protecting your franchise.
At least give me Burns... or Dillard or SOMEBODY

History shows you don't take WR, RB and TE in round 1 and win championships. Last few Super Bowl winners didn't build their teams that way; they build in the trenches and secondary. Now is Gary the right guy in the trenches? I'm leaning no.
Gute is obviously using this pick to tank next year and get an even higher pick. Itβs pure genius.

We have to trust their Gute instinct.
Kid gets a year to work in as Daniels works... out. Adds speed. I didn't know about the shoulder and that bugs me, another Justin screams at my soul, but dammit. . . I hope they know more than me, which they should. I would have liked OL. BUT, to trade anywhere, you need another dance partner. Many fans assume too much. There may have been no reasonable offers for that dance card.
Another piece for Mike Pettine.
Panthers make a smart pick. An athletic freak who actually produced.

Wait til they pick Drew Lock at 30.
16 picks, only 1 OT.
16 picks, 6 DL.
16 picks, 11 on D.
There is plenty of offense to be had yet.
Maybe Angry Bald Man likes him and has great plans? I hope.
Okay, at the risk of tomatoes flying my way, I am good with the Gary pick.

What a strange concept.
Only issue I have is we don't have time for him to live up to whatever potential he has. Wish they could have drafted someone who was ready to go day one instead of a project with potential.
That said I thought the Lions were stupid for drafting Ezekiel Ansah for the same reasons and it worked out for them.
He scored a 9 on the Wonderlic. Dead last among DL in this years draft.
A.
9.
Shoulder was a slight labrum tear as a freshman? I would hope that it past him by now.
Unfortunately, Gary wasnβt such a longshot. pic.twitter.com/vxyFXCy9UU

He will fill a need and has measurables. I'm ok too. Just not excited.
Only time will tell!
