Vikings draft 9 kickers, speaking of kickers, another DOOZIE on fox sports 1 tonite, 7:00 pm  Divisional Round  GB at Dallas,  January 15, 2017.                                      with no time left on the clock.

{edit}:   you might remember how this one ended, Dallas had just tied the game with a Dan Baily  52 yard fg.

The Packers took over at their own 25-yard line, 58 ticks on the clock, and after four plays, they faced the third-and-20.

That would be priceless.

Vikings draft 9 kickers.

10% of their off season roster?  Ok - I'll play .........

..... and all of them MISS their flights to Minnesota - which causes each of them to MISS their first FG attempts.  And they haven't MISSED in a game yet.  And that is OK because they will probably all be cut and no one will MISS them.

That game and the Seattle championship game are why I'm glad we still have Mason Crosby. Ask the Bears and Vikings how that worked out for them in the playoffs. In Vikes case multiple times.

And then?!?!? Dude, don't keep me in suspense!

Nagler on CHTV thinks it would be cool to hack the vikings horn, so whenever they tried to use it, it would blare out "GO PACK, GO! instead of that annoying barooooo sound.

The only reason the horn blower is still there is that if any Viking kickers tried to kick the horn out of the stadium and MISSED it might turn into a lawsuit - so they won't try.

Irrespective of opinions on the GBP WRs situation, I think this can only be a good thing.

Going into 2020 with Lazard as #2 WR would repeat the same mistake as last year.  I actually don't blame Gute for going into 2019 with Moore, Allison, ESB, and MVS competing for #2 WR.  There was enough in 2018 to make you think one of those guys would step up.  But doing it again in 2020 would be a mistake.

From a purely distant view/perspective, but I don't get the impression Gutekunst is a "hope" kind of guy.

My point was not that Lazard will grow into the #2, but if he is the #2 it's because he earned it. Same for EQ or MVS, or a any other WR they add.

I'm going to call this my final mock draft before next week. I don't think this is exactly how it will shake out because I have a feeling we're going to see A LOT of trade downs in the 16-28 area. I think there will be ample opportunities to jump to grab an ILB like Murray or Queen at a lower cost than most years. In case we don't trade up, here are the guys I like:

R1 (30): Ezra Cleveland/OT/Boise St.
-Elite size and RAS. Reminds a lot of Bulaga coming out. Should compete at RT immediately and be insurance in case something doesn't get worked out with Bakhtiari's contract (unlikely).

R2 (62): Devin Duvernay/WR/Texas
-Outstanding speed (4.39) and versatility. Football IQ to find holes in zone and has very reliable hands. Very productive and reliable Slot receiver. Should step in immediately ala Randall Cobb in 2011.

R3 (94): AJ Dillon/RB/Boston College
-Big, strong, explosive and extremely productive back to potential take over if Jamal Williams walks. Reliable runner and receiver, perfect complement for Aaron Jones.

R4 (136): Darrion Daniels/NT/Nebraska
-Massive NT with athleticism. Plays hard, doesn't get driven back, looks like a quality developmental guy to help stuff the run.

R5 (175): Joe Bachie/ILB/Michigan St.
-Great all around ILB. Incredibly instinctive, no hesitation, hard hitter. Not elite in coverage, but will be a huge upgrade over Martinez. Stock down due to PED violation.

R6 (192): Joe Reed/WR/Virginia
-Developmental slot/gadget player similar to Deebo Samuel. Intriguing skill set and undervalued due to WR class depth.

R6 (208): Jon Runyan/OT/Michigan
-Unspectacular looking yet very effective RT prospect. Looks idea for our blocking scheme. Good bloodlines.

R6 (209): Javelin Guidry/CB/Utah
-Elite speed (sub 4.4) and confidence in coverage. Undersized, but could be a ST weapon.

R7 (236): Stephen Sullivan/TE/LSU
-Underused and raw, but intriguing size and skill set.

R7 (242): Geno Stone/S/Iowa
-Undersized and doesn't have elite RAS, but great instincts and nose for the ball. Looks like a core STs guy.

 Same for EQ

He's the one the fans forgot about and he's a better athlete and WR than Lazard
Looking forward to seeing him on Sundays this fall

Chad Reuter has GB giving up a 3rd and 6th round pick to trade up to #23 and take CB Jaylon Johnson.  His mock looks like this:

– 1.23: CB Jaylon Johnson, Utah
– 2.62: WR Laviska Shenault, Colorado
– 4.136: QB Nate Stanley, Iowa
– 5.175: DL McTelvin Agin, Arkansas
– 6.208: CB A.J. Green, Oklahoma State
– 6.209: LB Dante Olson, Montana
– 7.236: WR Isaiah Wright, Temple
– 7.242: OL John Molchon, Boise State

I would be pissed if anything close to this occurs.

Would you compare him to Mark Tauscher?

I am going on record as thinking that Lazard takes a big step this year into the #2 role. I think EQ presses him, but Lazard has enough ego and it seems like he always has a chip on his shoulder as well. I think he'll use everyone saying GB needs a #2 as that motivation to take a step up. There. I said it.

I'd be pretty pissed if they grabbed a CB, let alone traded up to get one.  Eventually you need to stop devoting all of your resources to the secondary and shore up the rest of your team.

My dream first two rounds are Queen and Shenault.  Backup picks would be Murray and Higgins.  I think these four would walk in and start on day 1.  I wouldn't mind OT but i just don't see value at either picks, unless someone drops (which OL rarely do).

Don't forget that - if the past is any measure - no matter who we  get for a WR there is a 3 year apprenticeship that must be served first before he becomes as productive as we all think they should with AR as the QB.  Jordy & Adams are reminders of that.  Cobb I think came around sooner.  So did Jennings and James - but they each had a lot of throws come their way in TC in their rookie year and I believe that accelerated their finding trust with AR.

Also, don't forget that in any game there are only so many plays and one (1) ball.  Add to that some passes are going to be incomplete for one reason or another.  And if AR is favoring the run vs the pass, or one receiver over others the stats will be skewed accordingly.  Not every receiver is going to get 5 receptions a game.

So I don't think a first round WR is going to help much his first year.  Meanwhile we have a bunch in their third year on the team.  It is their 4th year when we know how they pan out - so says Packer history.

Geno Stone is a beast. Tough and always around the ball.

I would reach thru the TV and Falcon punch Gutey if he used a 6th round pick on Stanely, much less a 4th round pick. He would make you yearn for the days of Brett Hundley.

I'm a Hawk fan who's seen every one of Stanley's games and I agree totally. I'd be pissed if Gute wasted any pick on him.

I mostly agree, esp over favoring the run. However, Davante Adams looked decent in his first year. Reportedly he played injured in his second. Matt’s offense is different than MMs so while it may be less pass-centric, a good WR could still make an impact in his first year. The threat of a pass could even help the run game.

Agree on Stanley. Sign him as a UDFA and use him as a camp body. I like Boyle so much better. Granted, I don't think Stanley has had many weapons at WR, but he has had good TEs. The problem is that Stanley makes one good throw out of seven.
