The Athletic issues their first mock...and for the Packers...
29. Green Bay Packers: Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
The Packers haven’t drafted a wide receiver in the first round since Javon Walker in 2002, but they have to break that streak at some point, right? Aaron Rodgers can hope. Although not a burner, Bateman is a savvy route-runner who does a great job leveraging coverage and creating separation at various depths of the field.
CBS concurs.
Here's another:
Terrace Marshall Jr.
WR, LSU
For years now it seems like we are asking ourselves to imagine what Aaron Rodgers could do if he had more than just Davante Adams at receiver. Well, we shall ask the question no more as the team adds one of the country’s best in LSU’s Terrace Marshall. Marshall is a home run vertical threat who has tremendous size and speed. He would be an outstanding complement to Adams and allow Adams to have more one-on-one opportunities.
ha, OT, OG, K, P you will never guess the pick...and for dam sure it won't be an ILB, TE or WR - maybe a DB.
I think they will very well could go WR in the 1st round but I can also see this being the year they go all in on trying to finally fix the defense.
My wish list: ILB, DL, OT, WR, and TE. Just please no secondary, RB or QB.
I'd get a quality backup for Love in round 1.

Sadly, they have tried this before with the likes of Nick Perry, Jerel Worthy, Datone Jones, Khyri Thornton, Clinton-Dix, Damarious Randall, Quentin Rollins, etc. etc. etc. Clinton-Dix was decent early on and Perry had 1 good year, Kevin King is okay when healthy, but that’s about it for that mediocre at best list of players the Pack tried to throw at their defensive deficiencies.
They are just very poor at identifying talent for fixing the D with Alexander and Clark being the lone exceptions. Maybe Savage will develop, but just lots and lots of mediocrity and disappointments the past decade.
This whole thread.
I'm sure Gunt will be looking for a super athletic long snapper with 3 years of development potential.
27. GREEN BAY PACKERS: JAY TUFELE, USC, DL
The Trojan defensive tackle is getting a lot of love from the mock-draft boards, including ours. Jay Tufele is a 2020 college football seaon opt-out. In his USC career, Tufele racked up 65 tackles in 25 games.

That is pure sarcastic, petty snark.
I wish I'd thought of it first.
Gute likes his players young that’s for sure. Wait till juniors and RS-Sophs declare before making a mock. How will you know how much film to watch otherwise?
As sad as this is to say, I've completed dozens of mock drafts for next year for the Pack. Getting what should be a difference-making WR in either R1 or R2 is very doable - much like this year, there are a lot of talented players in the pool...R3 should even have a couple decent WR options. Getting a DL by R3 is also very doable. ILB Dylan Moses is usually there in the late 20s/early 30s and would love to see him in green and gold. R4 is about the right spot to get a CB like Jack Jones or Ambry Thomas. Here are a couple sites that I've spent way too many hours on...be warned, these can be very addicting.
In how many of those mocks did the Vikings fail to get their pick in on time?
None. But their 1st Rounder ends up sucking regardless.

So true so very true. And its only going to get more and more difficult to identify defensive talent as college football teams are playing less defense than ever. Even Saban made some comments recently that its great offenses that win games now not defenses. I have to wonder if the NFL will evolve that way as well because of that.

Love has a chip on his shoulder & he'll hold 3 clipboards better than Brunell, Detmer & Warner combined!
You just wait...

Last year, I completed a lot of mocks, and none of them came close to what Gute and Co. picked, in the real draft.
Guys who mock for a living rarely hit it.
I'm guessing they have a short career.

I drafted Patrick Surtain II CB - Alabama in the first round
Packers won't be drafting 26, 32 is more like it.

Might trade up for a QB
Can never have enough 1st round depth.
Will probably get a 4th comp pick for Martinez, 4/5 for Buluga, and a 6th for Fackrell, so you what that means with at least 1 extra 4th pick. For the 3rd straight year the Green bay Packers will trade up in the 1st round
wow, you guys are fast (so I didn't read everything). I'll just say, I'd wheel and deal with draft picks to get up high enough to get a damn near certain thing (no certain things) at DL or ILB, no particular order, the most dominant at either or position. it should be easy.
no freakin' way WR

No problem picking a tackle, center, WR, TE, DL, ILB or DB.

It may have to be if King moves on.

I took Love in a fair amount, and got Taylor in a few of those in a fit of Round 2 Badger lust more than any real thought of taking a RB there. (admittedly I was on the Gibson/Taylor Memphis man crush bandwagon) I'm not sure there's a recreational pharmaceutical in the world that made anyone think a TE/FB in round three was an option.
Anyone want a WR??

31. GREEN BAY PACKERS: CHRIS OLAVE, OHIO STATE
I’ll say it. I’m high on Olave, perhaps higher than Renner and the rest of the PFF office. He doesn’t have game-changing speed or size, but he’s easily one of the most polished route-runners in the class. Give MVP Aaron Rodgers another technician to throw to opposite Davante Adams, please.
So will getting a WR make us the #1 scoring offense in the NFL .....oh that's right, we already are. How about an interior D-lineman or CB?
