As long as we are talking draft capital

The entire 2015 draft was a disaster.

Outside of Kenny Clark, the entire 2016 draft was a disaster.

2017 they hit a home run on Aaron Jones.  But they will forever be remembered for passing on TJW who is a perennial All Pro.

2018 is the year of Jaire Alexander but it’s almost a repeat of the 2016 draft w/exception of MVS.

2019 draft is looking much better now with Gary and Savage improving and Elgton Jenkins is an absolute stud.  Keke is OK where they took him.

Then there’s 2020.  Dillon and Martin and Runyan look to be OK choices.   Deguara flashed potential then got hurt.

All in all, not a healthy or productive use of draft resources the last 5-6 years.  Many defensive players in particular were or have been horrible.  Burks, Dumarious Randall, Josh Jackson, Josh Jones, Mont Adams, Quentin Rollins, JFC.   That’s a decade worth of misses in the span of a few drafts.

You don’t simply flip the switch and recover from that level of suck.  Gute is trying, but damn those are some shit drafts especially in TTs final years.

I have a buddy who is a Chiefs fan and you have to wonder if they feel the same way as Packers fans do?

I mean, the Chiefs got throttled and honestly their defense was exposed a lot more than GB was.   Offenses this year were similar, but the AFC is loaded and if Russ Wilson or Deshaun Watson get traded to a Miami or Indy it’s going to be difficult for KC to get back.

In the NFC, the Bucs are likely the team to beat, the Rams should be decent, but who else scares you?   The Packers should be in good position to run it back.

He, Jevon Holland and Tariq Thompson are ridiculously intriguing as players. They could make an extremely versatile nickel from day 1. I would love them to get one of the three.

TB has a bunch of high end FA's, we'll see how they handle it.  SF will be right back at it, especially if they sort out the QB.  GB faces really tough schedule. Key may be to just win the division and peak in January playing on the road.

The 2020 Packers were a Super Bowl caliber team.   It took a lot of things to happen for them to lose that game against TB.   They should have advanced.

The 2019 team?   Not so much.  The 49ers backs are still running all over that squad.  They barely beat the Seahawks and got worked the following week.

For some discussion, here's the snap counts for the title games in January 2020 and January 2021.

I hadn't thought of it this way before, but the ILBs they played against Tampa Bay did not play a single snap in the title game last year. Literally the only other player on the entire defense who played snaps this year that didn't play last year was Harrison (a guy who was claimed off waivers a couple of weeks prior to this game).

Gutey's moves were to bring in Kirksey and draft Martin in the 5th round. No other contributors on defense were added. Would another defender in Rounds 1-4 or another free agent guy helped? That's what this thread will continue to discuss.

Couple guys I really like that are young (20/21 years old):

Missouri LB Nick Bolton:

Reminds me of Kenny Clark in a way. 20 years old, raw immense physical gifts, seems to be playing primarily just on ability and not enough nuance and savvy. But you catch a guy like that on the up swing as a 20 year old kid, by the time he's the same age as his '21 Draft peers he's already a Pro Bowler. Good workouts and this kid is a legit end of R1 player, right now I would say GB either needs to trade back to R2 or trade up in R2 to have a shot.

Clemson Slot Amari Rodgers:

I'm biased because this kid is from Knoxville and his dad is former UTK QB Tee Martin, a guy who is still beloved in the Knoxville area mostly. He's got the goods though IMO, young kid too. Doesn't turn 22 until September. GB needs a factor in the Slot, we have a lot of talented wide receivers IMO, and Adams is certainly an elite Slot receiver, but it would be nice to split DA out wide and still have a threat from the Slot.
