His attitude plus the money he will get (even on a rookie scale) will 'demand' that he will be a starter. There's a team that will be foolish enough to do this; we see it just about every year.

I think his career will have the same trajectory as similar QBs (Hurts, Fields, Jackson, and many others). He will do some damage and win some games with his running abilities, but when he has to be a 'pocket passer', he likely will come up short.

What’s everyone’s opinion on Caleb Jones?  Think he’ll ever become a starter or maybe a decent backup?

He seems like good depth.  He has had several windows to take hold of a starting position but has been usurped by Tom and Walker.  OH, sorry, I was thinking of Nijman.  But Caleb seems to be on the same tract.

The Packers moved a ton of players from PS to active and back & forth all year - but they kept Caleb Jones on the 53 the whole time. Suggests he was poach-worthy in Gute's eyes.

I'm guessing Nijman is gone, Luke Tenuta wins back- up at RT plus drafting at least 1 more OT. And Caleb comes to camp with one more chance to compete

The thing that's interesting about Caleb Jones is that he's so huuuuuge that even if he has issues with his technique, its still like running around an aircraft carrier for the DL. He's immense.

Last time we saw him, I believe, was 2 preseason ago.   I really liked what I saw.   I think he got hurt this camp and never really had a chance to compete.

I could be way off, there wasn’t a ton of reporting on him.

A huge (no pun intended) factor with Jones is how hard he has worked in the weight room. His measurables coming out of college were awful. For OTs coming out that year he was at the 4th percentile in the 40, the 1st percentile in the vertical, 2nd percentile the broad jump, and 10th percentile in the bench (only 18 reps). He did have the biggest wingspan, which is probably one of the reasons they see some potential.

The crazy thing about this upcoming draft is that you can make a compelling case for drafting every position on the team - including QB.
There are needs / wants everywhere.

On the other hand, THIS version of the Packers went toe-to- toe with both Super Bowl participants, beating one and barely losing to the other.
That's nuts !

Makes me think GB isn't going to make all 11 picks in April, I can see moving up being a part of the plan. I can also see trading a pick for a veteran player

Current Picks:  25, 41, 58, 88, 91, 126, 167, 203, 215, 242, 250

^^^Agreed

I don't think the Packers make 11 selections, nor do I think it makes sense.  As mentioned by many, because of underclassmen coming out in fewer numbers, the back half of the draft is not as deep as in prior years.

Another issue is that the Packers have a pretty good roster, with young players, depth, and presumably good players on the PS. Making the back-end selections means you think that player(s) has an equal/higher upside than current players on the roster. Obviously, the Packers have plenty of room to improve their roster.  But it's a virtual lock their top six picks (rounds 1-4) will make the team.  So they're already replacing 6 players on the current roster.  They'll certainly sign a FA or two (if not more) that will make the team.  And it's not out of the question a UDFA could make the team.

So there really isn't room for 11 picks plus UDFAs plus any other FA signings.  Would be a good idea, as Satori mentions, to use some of that draft capital to move up and/or trade for established player(s).

If the back end drop off is really that big, why would other teams give up value?

A stronger back end actually makes it easier to trade up.

I wouldn't count too much on free agents coming in, and the number outgoing may be fairly large.

They need at least two linebackers who can play, probably need to start.

They need two safeties who can start.

They need two corners, at least one who can start.

They need at least three offensive linemen who don't suck.

They should address RB at least once.

They need at least one more pass rusher.

I still think Savage will stay and isn't as bad as some here think. A starter alongside him and slot corner are still needed in defensive backfield...or is it possible they move Nixon to safety?

Still not definite that we will switch to a 4-3, so one ILBer may still be all that is needed in that group.

Do need a RB and some depth for o-line.

One Edge is also a need.

So to me, that is 6 spots that need to be addressed through Free Agency / draft more could develop after the FA period before the draft.

As long as Savage gets paid in line with the average safety he is, I'm ok bringing him back.  Pay just has to be in line with his play.  So no 4 year $30m contract.  Give him $14m over 3 years with $8m guaranteed.  I don't think he's worth much more.

Anyone hear what TE Tyler Davis's injury status is? Is he coming back?  It may be wise to draft another TE, like Erick All, from Iowa, if Davis cannot play.  I've heard that MLF and Gute like the role DeGuara has on this team, so I doubt they move on from him. Also, in two mocks I have done, I picked up Edge Jared Verse, Florida St, with our 1st pick. Any thoughts on Verse? Is Edge the way we want to go with our pick in the 1st round, or is there a more pressing need( OL, S, CB, DL, RB) to go after?

Edge makes some sense. Preston is almost 30 and Gary will be by the fifth-year option, so it potentially helps future cap, too.

Verse probably should be Edge #1, he’s bendy, twitchy and relentless, and played at about 245#. He’s lighter and shorter than Gutekunst likes but he’d give them something they don’t have as a pass rusher.

That said, there would have to be something major to have him there. Unless the Vikings take a QB, he’ll likely go there or before. Flores would turn him loose to cause havoc.

Darius Robinson from Missouri might be in play if that’s the direction they go. He’s a bigger, faster Karl Brooks who could line up anywhere across the front.

The Florida State defense could be prime hunting ground for the defensive picks overall, though.

It's not optimal, but it's been done quite often. I don't think KGB played above that and he was a few inches taller, for example. That said, it's why I prefer the 3-4. More flexibility and in base against a run package it basically becomes a 5-2.

Yeah, the 3-4 gave us access to all those undersized, tweener edges. Not that Gute drafted them.😅 I have always preferred the 3-4 because I like quick, bendy edges, but there’s so little played in base these days that I am not sure it’s a big deal.

I'm thinking there will be at least 3 new OL if we lose/release Newman, Nijman, Runyan. RB, possibly 2 safety's (I've had enough of Savage), Corner, possibly Edge to take Enagbare's rotational role, ILB to replace Campbell or be depth behind Quay and McDuffie, and maybe a NT and kicker.

Erick All has a blown knee. Just sayin'.

I'd have taken Ennis Rakestraw, CB Missouri, over Tyler Guyton, OT. Rakestraw went at #26. From what I've heard, Rakestraw is a sure tackler, which is something we need in our secondary. Funny how it seems that a lot of people running these mocks seem to give GB guys who need playing time, or will need to improve their technique, or some other kind of improvement, etc., when it comes to the players they select for us. Anyway, I think Gute will move up the board and/or trade picks, to get the impact players we need.

LFG.

Excited for the new season.

NFL has the best gig going.  Not over saturated with long assed seasons like baseball, hockey and basketball.  They need to continue to find the way to keep people wanting more.
