I'd sign Julius Thomas. He's still just 26. You now have your Finley type TE back.

Put Adams in the slot.

Leave Jordy on the outside.

Either develop Janis and Abracadabra as your 3rd or draft one in a rather rich 2015 WR class.

Then re-sign Bulaga.

With Lacy to the mix as a good receiving screen RB that's a lot of good options for the best QB in the NFL not to mention you leave a very good OL intact.

The problem Cobb and the Packers have is that he's more valuable to the Packers than any other team. A lot of his value is predicated on his chemistry with Rodgers - he has a knack for getting open when Rodgers extends a play.

If he signs a 7 million/year contract with Green Bay he'll  look underpaid after he puts up 2-3 more years like the last one. If he signs a 12-14 million/year deal with the Raiders or Jaguars, he'll look like a bust unless Blake Bortles or Derek Carr improve dramatically.

The teams he fits best on - Packers, Patriots, Seahawks, Chiefs, Eagles can't offer him as big of money as the lousy teams with big cap room. And he's not a Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson level receiver in that he's not going to win many jump ball situations in tight space like the red zone). That's the guys who get the big money.

He took as big a step back as I've seen a player make in Green Bay (up there with Raji).  I'm sure TT and MM were both expecting Boykin to be a solid #3 but he wasn't even a solid #5.  I wonder if something happened with him last year that never became public.

I'm in agreement with you pboi.

If you're able to pull that off I think the Packers are significantly better on offense, especially in the RZ.  Love Cobb, but impact  WRs are easier to find when you have a AR12 at QB.  TEs for whatever reason don't have that same luxury.  You can't simply take Quarless and turn him into a star.

IMO these two comments pretty much sum it up. If Cobb wants to stay with the Packers it will get worked out. When he is looking at more money from other places he'll have to consider a lot of potential negatives vis-a-vis Green Bay which has the game's best QB, a system he knows he can thrive in, and a wide-open championship window.

The point made earlier about guaranteed money is not unimportant. For a smaller player used the way he has been the chances of injury aren't minimized. He saw what happened to Finley.

Cobb will have choices. None will be easy.

I don't believe Thomas is worth $8-$9 million. Cobb is.

Rather have Vernon Davis because he can block.

Interesting discussion for sure.

I expect the Jaguars to backup the brinks for Cobb ($13 million)

Agree about Thomas, boss. I'll be dubious about any receiver who put up arcade game numbers in Denver (except Emmanuel Sanders who's proven it elsewhere). Donkeys with Peyton have had the luxury of playing mostly AFC dumpster fire defenses.

I suppose he'd do well in GB owing to the Packers' overall number of offensive options but I'm not convinced he's worth that kind of coin.

Lets not forget other teams are stupid.  I agree Cobb is worth more to us than anyone else, but other teams are stupid.  You won't see NE in the mix for Cobb, even though they could use him just like we could.

I'm also not sure I would call Cobb an injury risk.  He broke a bone on one play.  It happens.  It's not like he's got bad knees or hammy problems all the time.  Cobb is reliable (until he isn't).

The Thomas option becomes more intriguing to me if the price tag goes down a little, but I could live with that.  I think in the end Ted signs a couple unrestricted FA and stockpiles draft picks.

You'd also have your Finley head-case and Finley can't block TE too

I don't disagree with the big- picture premise that CAPackfan95 posted, I just wouldn't choose Julius Thomas as the guy worthy of the Packers cash

http://bsndenver.com/julius-th...ut-it-all-out-there/

ā€œJulius is here to get his money and get out,ā€ one teammate told me last week. ā€œThatā€™s just how some guys are. He didnā€™t grow up playing this game and itā€™s just not in his DNA to put it all out there.ā€ When asked if Julius Thomas was soft like some say, he said, ā€ where thereā€™s smoke, thereā€™s fire.ā€ According to the teammate, Julius Thomas was healthy enough to play multiple times last season but refused to.

We have no idea if Cobb is simply looking for one huge payday with a load of guaranteed money in front of a 5 year deal and then get the hell out of football entirely in 3 years. A lot has been said that he's not a true #1 receiver. I don't know Cobb at all but I'm willing to bet that burns the **** out of him to read that.

So many variables at work in FA. Whether or not a guy stays isn't always as simple as how much money he's offered.

If I'm Cobb, the decision is this:  do I leave the Packers for an extra $1-2 million a year over a 5 year contract, or stay with the Packers on a 4 year deal, then leave at age 28 with one more big time 4 year contract.  Because with the teams/QB's he is linked to right now, he isn't going to have the impact or put up the numbers that will get him a big time contract  in 4-5 years.  See Jennings, Greg.

Suh is well suited to be a Raider.

As as for Cobb. When Jennings and James Jones left, it was disappointing but it made sense from a financial perspective. I really liked both, have been watching Jennings since his W Mich days...really good player.   Jones is such a class act,  watched him improve his game after some tough times with drops and fumbles....and handle everything with dignity.  Cobb is different in that he is the "go to" when the play breaks down or in money time. How many times did Rodgers go to him in the back of the end zone after going through his progressions and nothing was there....Cobb is masterful at keeping the play alive. Same with clutch plays, think Soldier field in Rodgers first game back after his clavicle injury, boom, Big time play by a big time player. Countless other examples. But alas, Cobb is the same in that it has to make sense fiscally.  Unfortunately gonna have to wait to find out whether Cobb can accept the Packers offer as it will surely be less than he sees from multiple other teams. #pleasestayrandall

Suh's biggest meltdowns have come against the Packers, do you honestly believe that they could just bring a guy like that into their locker room? Remember that whole ankle stomping thing last year? It wouldn't be awkward just bringing him into the locker room, not at all! Thankfully, this is all just a pipedream. Even if the Packers had $50 million in cap room, they would never sign him. If the Raiders can't convince him to go to Oakland, he'll wind up with the Jets, Eagles or Colts.

31 Teams' thug is 1 teams effin' good player.

Exactly.  He's been kicked out of zero games and was suspended 2 for a single incident that happened so long ago that the league didn't consider it in his last on-field blow up.  He's had no significant off-field issues, no significant legal issues, no drug issues, and no effort issues.  There really aren't that many risks with Suh, other than being the highest paid defensive player ever.  If he goes for under $15m a year, he is absolutely worth it.

Signing Packers Wide Receivers  should be a bit scary for most teams. Rodgers make them look better then they really are, I think Cobb falls into the category.  Cobb is short not really fast  is a slot receiver, and gets hurt a lot, not good things to be if a GM is going to spend a lot of money on him. He will still get big contract offers, I am not sure if Ted will match them.

The difference between Jennings and Jones going, was the Packers had sufficient replacements in position to take over.  That is not true this time.  Adams may be able to step in at the number 2, but what does that leave the Pack at number 3?  Basically a rookie in Abederas, Boykins better be gone, or a rookie draft pick.

To be honest, does TT need to look at possible finding a cheap experienced wideout in free agency if Cobb goes?  Nah, that's crazy talk.

So because the Lions didn't win the division with Suh......he can't help any team in the NFL?  That's a pretty unintelligent take on Suh.

I get that Packer fans hate Suh.  I won't defend his conduct on the field.  He's a POS.  But other than JJ Watt, there might not be a more disruptive player in the NFL than Suh.  And he's missed only 2 games in 4 years.  Any team that gets him will be better on defense.
