I don't think Lacy looks much different than he did last year.   He's never been a barn-burner.  Last year he had just enough of a hole to get into it and blast some people back. This year there is nothing there at all.  That is on the offensive line. Lacy is what he has always been.

The difference with Starks is, he can change direction and accelerate faster.  In the last couple of games, the blocking hasn't been there for him either.  He's just better at finding daylight.

Our entire O-line, for whatever reason, is underperforming in the last few games, and it is directly hurting all aspects of the offense.  They need to get it together and give Eddie some room.  Starks can't do it alone.  At this pace he is going to get hurt.

A big drop off is not apparent but "not much different" is all it takes.  Even MM has said as much, read the post  2 above yours and I quote "things he is not doing as well".  You may think he is his old self, I guarantee the folks at 1265 are a bit concerned.  Whether it is injury or something else he needs to get up to speed soon.

McCarthy isn't the person I'd like to have help Lacy try to lose weight.

I honestly don’t know what it is,” Lacy said, via Michael Cohen of the Journal Sentinel. “Definitely, I’m off to a different start. I’m not playing how I was the previous two years. Later on in the season, maybe it’ll pick back up. But as of right now, this is just the move that is going to be. This season [Starks] has definitely been the better player between the both of us. That’s just the move.”

“Who knows how long it’s going to be like this,” Lacy said. “Maybe things pick back up for me and it’s right back and we’re never having this discussion again. You don’t know where this could lead to. But as of right now, for the team, this is pretty much the best move.”

Yeah, as of right now I hope they don't give him another contract.  His attitude doesn't sound too great.  He could turn into another Cletidus Hunt.  It just doesn't sound like he wants to play football.  Give Starks a contract and let Lacy walk. Draft another RB when Lacy's rookie contract is done.

I'm fine with it.  Sounds to me like he is trying to handle the demotion like a professional.  He recognizes that he's in a lull and that Starks is playing better.

What would you like him to do?  Reject the decision?  Openly criticize the staff and his teammates?  Pout in practice?

My perception has always been that Lacy is able to keep things in perspective due to his life experiences (e.g., his family being displaced by Katrina).  But I don't doubt his competitive spirit.  He'll turn it around.

And if he says he's pissed about the move, suddenly there's "unrest" in the GB locker room. The guy has run his ass off the last two years, so I'm not going to read too much into midweek interviews.

I wouldn't give the guy Demarco Murray money just because I don't think the position offers an equal return, but if he got $11/3 like Ryan Matthews or $16/4 like Mark Ingram, I could live with that.

I don't like the maybe part.  He is handling the demotion well, but at least try to blow smoke up our asses and say things will get better.

Sometimes I don't understand what some of you think. A guy you rooted for the past two years, probably talked about what a great attitude he had or what a beast he was, as soon as he struggles he's a POS who doesn't deserve a second contract? He's Cletidus Hunt? I don't even understand that comparison because Hunt crapped out AFTER he got his money. Lacy is probably hitting his sophomore slump right now because he didn't hit it last season...he's a good guy and really talented player. Much like Mason Crosby I think he will pull himself out of it.

I said if he would get a contract he could turn into Hunt.  I never had any issue with Lacy's attitude up until this year.  Guess what though, he played well on game day and that is all that matters.  That is not how it is this season.

I don't often criticize the Packers.  I always see through green and gold glasses, but something is wrong with Lacy and motivation seems to be part of it.  When a player looks like he gained 30 pounds and doesn't show any kind of enthusiasm it might be that he is a little lazy.  Call it how ever you see fit, but I sure as hell am glad Starks is starting this week.

He's about 30 pounds overweight. How about we start with that? His ideal playing weight is 235. He's likely in the 265-270 range.

Eddie needs to get in shape. I doubt that happens this season but he is certainly capable of doing that going in 2016. I really don't think it's attitude. He's just physically not where he needs to be.

Packers list him at 234. Obviously the team isn't going to list his actual measurements, but I SERIOUSLY doubt they're exaggerating to the tune of 30 lbs. It's not uncommon for players to get out of shape, but the team usually deactivates players who are that grossly out of shape and can't pass conditioning tests. There was no talk about his weight being an issue in TC, so did he pack on 30 lbs during his injury? No rehab, just ribs and fried chicken? Melted ice cream straight from the carton?

If they lost him at 234, he's probably 240-245. I doubt his weight is the issue, he needs his confidence back.

He's not been fined for being overweight. I don't know what their upper limit is with him, but I'd guess 30+ would be a fine. McCarthy said something a week or so back that weight is not just a number on the scale, so may be more about overall conditioning and adding a little in the wrong area.

According to PFF he had 48 broken tackles last season, but only 9 so far this year in 8 games.

Cant find the other link but Werder reported through "an inside source" Packers believe he's about 260.

Leroy Butler was also observing practice and reported this week Eddie looks FAT. He thought he was in the range of 265. We're not talking about 6 pounds heavier. The gain is significant apparently.

starting James Starks over Eddie Lacy likely related to Lacy weight gain. In last 4 games, Lacy is 33 attempts, 78 yards, 2.4 avg.

"Inside source" = "I'm told"?

Raises more questions than answers.  I mean, have a co-worker guess a guy's weight and Bingo, you're "told."

Seems like the JSO or the GBPG would get the info before this guy, doesn't it?

He looks good to me,  looks like he will be peaking a bit later in the year.  The braintrust is wise to have held him back so far this year. They obviously feel they did not need him in Carolina and they used him much like a preseason game. The possibility of HFA did not deter them from this subterfuge. If only more teams would be so sly as to demote their star running back from his starting role.  Mike obviously was joking when he said that Eddie is doing some things not right and he will be working with him.

He will be unstoppable when he loses the 5 extra pounds that Antonio sees on him.

sorry I am still on the wagon with Eddy, he's done too much for the offense the last 2 years, maybe folks should remember not too long ago, we couldn't make 1/2 yard...also, I remember throwing Longwell under the bus when he slumped, I am ok with EL, matter of fact, I heart me some 27.
