... I can't help but wonder if there is a pattern here and MM has reached the end of his patience.

To the extent that that pattern included Alonzo Harris, I'd sa ya, he definitely has.

I remember reading the remarks about Lacy saying he wasn't a fan of football and I thought it was odd and a little worrisome at the time.  But perhaps, he is one of those guys who is falling out of love for the game and playing it at a high level.

I also think that there is more going on with Lacy than we are speculating about.  At this rate, come next year, I will not be surprised to see the Packers without him.

Wonder if Harris had to get his own ride home from Detroit?

BTW, this afternoon did anyone see the WTMJ Notification that read something like this.  Came across my phone.

"Green Bay: Eddie Lacy now.  Cut Alonzo Harris both players were late for curfew in Detroit on Wednesday night"

Don't really see Eddie's somewhat quirky personality as being an issue. The issue appears to be his willingness to do what's necessary to be an NFL professional and currently he's falling way short in that regard. Hopefully he gets his head on straight and turns it around.

Exactly.  He has stated that he sees this as his job and that's more than fine but he needs to be a professional.  Do your job, do your thing outside of the job.

Just read all 10 pages. After the first couple of posts, skip to page 6. Lots of great takes in the last half of the thread.

Guess the original premise of the thread was not to far off.

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy was very direct during his end of the year press conference. McCarthy answered a variety of questions during the session from play calling, to going for two after the Hail Mary in Arizona, to the position of Clay Matthews. However, he hit a hot button when he was asked about running back Eddie Lacy.

After a perplexing 2015 season for Lacy, McCarthy fielded questions often about Lacy's weight, and Monday night was the first time he actually addressed it directly. He said Lacy must lose weight and return next season in far better shape if he hopes to regain the dominant form he showed during his first two NFL seasons.

"Well, I mean Eddie Lacy, he’s got a lot of work to do. I think I’m stating the obvious. His offseason last year was not good enough and he never recovered from it. I had a chance to talk to Eddie today and that was pretty much the majority of our whole conversation. So he has to get it done because he cannot play at the weight that he played at this year," said McCarthy.

Doesn't get much more direct than that from McCarthy. Eddie is overweight, just like many of the fans and pundits speculated throughout the season. Lacy was benched twice during the season, early on in the season due to a lack of production and later in the year after missing curfew the night before the team's Dec. 3 game at Detroit.

Lacy finished his 2015 campaign with 187 carries for 758 yards (4.1-yard average) and three touchdowns. This after back to back 1,100-yard seasons in his first two years as a pro.

Pretty disappointing year for him. We will see what kind of pro he is this coming year. The previous two years it was so much fun watching him just bowl over and spin past everyone. This year, not so much. Watching him slow down on that long run against the Cards was not fun.

MM didn't seem to want to breech the subject with the media in season. At least we know that he sees the truth even if he does not want to talk about it at length in season.  Pretty impossible to deny so...

"It felt like it was 80"

-Eddie Lacy on his 60yd run in Arizona

I think the really concerning part is that he seemed to get bigger as the season went on.  If he can't keep it under control during the season I can only imagine it will get worse in the off season. You'd think he'd lose weight with the coaching staff on him and all the exercise.

Lacy doesn't seem to me like he's going to start getting ready for 2016 tomorrow and  MM doesn't normally like criticizing players in public.  I get the feeling this is also to get the fans/media ready because he's not sure the guy is going to get it together.  Lacy is a very likeable guy, but he should have been a big part of 2015 and let the team down.

Last year the team workouts started on April 20th.  This year it seems like the date might be April 18th.

90 days away.

2015 Eddie Lacy  187 carries for 758 yards (4.1-yard average) and 3TD

 1994 Craig Heyward 183 carries for 779  (4.3- average) and 7 TDs.

Heyward also had 335 receiving yards on 32 receptions 1 TD.

Lacy had 188 this year on 20 receptions 2 TD.

Looks about right.  sidenote Heyward actually played against the Packers in Sterling Sharpe's last game.

That was still early Favre

Pretty clear choice for Eddie- he can either commit to being an NFL player and do what's necessary or he can eat himself out of the league. He needs to make the team aware of which direction he's going so they can plan accordingly.

Hard to believe that with his history of weight gain, they did not build "weigh-in" incentives & fines in his contract when they signed him? ...or is that not allowed under current union agreement?

Many "in the know" reported the same thing. Not only did he come to camp Phat, he actually got phatter as the season progressed which is pretty impressive considering these guys practice every week, have trainers all around them, and they play on Sundays.

Pretty amusing going back and reading this thread. A lot of green n' gold glasses refusing to admit the obvious. Still pulling for Eddie. He's just got to get it right mentally to push himself to his 2013-2014 self. I believe he can do it.

No matter how good a year Lacy has next year, under no circumstances should they sign him to a big contract extension. I could see him putting some effort in this summer for a contract push, but if he gets a significant signing bonus I would bet a lot of money that he'll balloon up again in a year or two.

I don't believe you can fine a player for missing weight unless it's in his contract.  Weight clauses are probably rare for rookie contract because of the lack of track record for being fat , so doubtful Lacy has it in his contract.  Now in contract #2, if Eddie earns it, I guarantee it'll include a weight clause.  Until then, you do what you can.  But Eddie is a professional and at the end of the day, all MM can do in 2016 is bench him if he's ineffective (which is what he did this year).

But Eddie is a professional {snip}

You sure about that? Because what I saw over the course of the season was a dramatic amount of unprofessionalism from Eddie.

If he cleans up his act and gets his head on straight Russ Ball can structure a deal that would adequately protect the franchise.

I get tossing a fat joke around and all. But some of the **** being said here is ridiculous. Unprofessional? Lazy?, Never give him a long term deal?

After losing his home to a hurricane he lived in a trailer and slept on the couch. He still busted his ass as a HS football player and earned a scholarship to Alabama. Any time he went back "home" while at Alabama he slept on that same couch. When he went back "home" after being drafted by the Packers he slept on that same mother ****ing couch.

He's a kid that had less than nothing then had a lot and he done screwed up. Mike called him on it. Maybe we should see how the kid responds?

People already proclaiming he's going to balloon up again even if he gets it together in 2016 like they know the first ****ing thing about Eddie Lacy. ****ing amazing.

He really needs to take steps to overcome this, not just for his football career but his long term health. He likes to eat (especially fast food) and does not particularly like to exercise. Isn't this the profile of pretty much every overweight person you know? He needs to hire a personal, live-in trainer, that will make him lead a healthier lifestyle. Maturing, is the ability to admit what you can't do yourself & taking steps to get help with whatever problem you have. In the past 6 years he has gained close to 60 pounds. We can all joke about "phat Eddie", but it appears to be an addiction and not funny for those who have it.

Sounds like the coach got the worst of that arrangement

sorry Chilli but I just couldn't resist.
